:: Quotes on The Lord Of The Rings ::

SciFi Wire - June 2003 - about the Return Of The King reshoots : "[Director Peter Jackson] loved the audience's reaction in the first movie [to] Leggy running over the back of the cave troll and killing the cave troll, and then in the second movie, sliding down the stairs and jumping [off] the horse. And in the third movie, he's kind of combined a whole load of stuff. So it's like another one of those sort of Leggy moments."

When asked about the scenes that he would have liked to shoot over again, he says : "I've changed so much. And I thought, oh God, I would have done that different now. What was I thinking ? I obviously wasn't. I was so nervous. I'm so tense. There's things like that. But s--t, it was an opportunity and I love that character. I tried really hard to get it right, and Pete was amazing and directed me really well, and I feel lucky."

"I had to go back, and I have done, and it's done. I'm holding out for f--king three guys sitting around a table playing cards. Not that I'm not grateful for the opportunities and experiences I've had, but I just think it would be good for me to do something like that just to show that I'm not just an action-reaction, one-line man. You know what I mean ? There's more to me than that, and hopefully I can get an opportunity to show that."

December 2002, about Legolas in The Two Towers : "I become Action Elf. With the first film we had all these characters to introduce and a really complicated story to explain, which meant there was a lot of the film which didn't have much action in it, but now we've done that, this one is going to be fantastic and the third one is going to be this great finale that everyone will be hanging out to see." About his LOTR co-stars : "I miss them all the time. It really isn't one of those things which is just an on-set friendship which ends when you stop working together. There are lots of those in this business, but this is something else."

LOTR Fan Club Official Movie Magazine, April/May 2002 : "It was about getting that movement and that grace. The elves are this invincible, angelic, first-born and first race placed on Earth by the gods. They have this kind of grace and ease; they are immortal and ageless, and [are] very focused beings. That was what I tried to portray and do justice to. I had to study and train really well to do the job to the best of my abilities. Archer is [Legolas'] signature. When you read the books, what sticks out in your mind about Legolas is his bowmanship."

Harper's Bazaar - Almost Famous Interview, January 2002 : "When I first got to New Zealand in October '99, I was intimidated by trying to bring this character to the screen. I was like "I've got to do everything I can to make the character as real as possible and to keep him as close to the book as I can because he's a character that people have created in their imaginations over years." But at one point, I said to myself - because I was so aware of it that it was actually blocking me - I said, "You know what? I've gotta let go. I've been cast to play Legolas because I have some quality I can use to try to bring this character to life." So I just did my best to do that. I ended up doing a lot of movement training trying to find the physicality of the character."

"There was a huge casting process that went on with this project and I went on tape for it, probably like a hundred thousand other actors across the world. I tried out initially for a character called Faramir, but my agent got a call to say that Faramir wouldn't be available to me and would I read for Legolas ? So I went on tape again for Legolas and, after they'd checked out how tall I was and everything, I got the call to say I was in. A couple of months later, I met Pete and his partner, Fran."

"I learned how to surf with Billy [Boyd, aka Pippin] and then all the others joined in : Dominic [Monaghan, who's Merry], Sean [Astin who plays Sam] and Elijah. We were all a bunch of young guys so we became really close friends. I have friends for life because of this movie."

Unspecified source : "Liv Tyler, who plays Elrond's daughter, Arwen Undómiel, became a very close friend of mine, but I was quite indimidated by her at first. Before filming had started, I was sitting in the hair and makeup trailer having my hairline raised for the wig. As it was being shaved back, Liv came and sat next to me for her wig fitting. We had met only once, the night before, and I was obviously a bit in awe of her. I turned and asked her what she thought of my new hairline. She replied that it was 'kinda cute', but suggested that I would look better with the sides totally shaved off. Obviously I was going to do anything Liv Tyler told me to do and, before I knew it, I had a Mohawk !"

UGO - Q&A : Q : "In one scene, you rattle off three or more arrows consecutively and extremely quickly, was that really you, a stunt double or CGI ?"
Orlando Bloom : "Yep, that was really me, I was doing it all but they put the arrows in afterwards. I pulled out the first one and, I think that day I shot off like 50 or so arrows. The arrows were dangerous and they go off in all sorts of directions. So they put in the arrows CG afterwards."
