Sean Patrick Astin was born on
February 25th, 1971 in Santa Monica, California (USA). His
parents (John
Astin -who played Gomez in The Adams Family- and Patty
Duke) are both actors. Due to his famous parents's, Sean
was brought up on acting. His first job as an actor was when
he was 9 but The Goonies (1985) was his first success.
Sean Astin attended Crossroads High School For The Arts and he
also studied acting at the famous Stella Adler Conservatory in
Los Angeles. He is graduated with honors from UCLA (B.A in
history, B.A in English).

: one of the short films that he directed and
co-produced ('Kangooroo Court') was nominated in the
Best Short Film category at the 67th Annual Academy Awards in
1995. Sean was nominated at the Young Artist Award in 1992 for
Outstanding Young Ensemble Cast in a Motion Picture for Toy
Soldiers and won the Award for Best Starring Performance
by a Young Actor for The Goonies in 1986 and for Best
Young Actor Starring in a Motion Picture for Staying
Together in 1990. He won a 2003 MTV Movie Award with
co-star Elijah Wood for Best On-Screen Team in The Two
Towers.

Casting on LOTR : he sent Peter Jackson an audition
tape after word got out
that the director was casting The Lord Of The Rings.
Sean Astin said : "I'd never heard of The Lord of the
Rings, actually. So I went to the bookstore and there it was,
three shelves of books about Tolkien and Middle-earth, and I
was like, 'Holy cow, what else am I missing out on ?"
