:: Gimli ::

Name : Gimli

Other names and titles : Elf-friend, Lord of the Glittering Caves
Date of birth : 2879, Third Age
Date of death : 129 Fourth Age
Race : Dwarves

Gimli was a dwarf of Dúrin's folk and Glóin's son. In Rivendeel, he joined the Fellowship of the Ring, mostly because he didn't want to see the Ring in the hand of an Elf. Like all Dwarves, he distrusted the Elves but that changed after he met Galadriel in Lórien. Impressed by her beauty, he asked for three hairs of her golden head, and he got them as a sign of everlasting friendship. Since then he swang his axe against everybody who spoke badly about Galadriel.

After the breaking of the Fellowship of the Ring, he hunted Orcs together with Legolas and Aragorn. On their long jounrey he and Legolas became deep friends. Gimli fought in the battle at Helm's Deep where he slew 42 Orcs and in the Battle at the Pelennor Fields.

After the War of the Ring, Gimli settled down in Aglarond and the the smiths of the dwarves worked for Gondor and Rohan. He shared a deep friendship with Legolas, they visited the home of Legolas and the Glittering Caves togehter and it is said that Gimli and Legolas passed into to the West together.

Gimli is performed by John-Rhys Davies in Peter Jackson's Lord Of The Rings.

"I think today there is an enormous hunger for adventure and a dynamic life that can only be met in the imagination... or in movies like this one. Tolkien feeds that hunger, because in our hearts we want to be part of a heroic civilization like the Elves, Hobbits, Dwarves and men of Middle-earth."
