A Hobbit's Tale

Originally he was a Hobbit, probably of the Stoors. When he was still very young, he went out boating with his friend Déagol. While Gollum was swimming, Déagol was fishing. Déagol suddenly fell into the water and saw something glittering on the ground. He grabbed it and it turned out to a be golden ring. When Sméagol saw what his friend had found he commanded him to give the ring to him because it was his birthday. When Déagol refused to do so, Sméagol slew him and took the ring. Some time later he left his family and went into a cave in the Misty Mountains. There the Ring consumed him. It gave him a long life and changed his character and his appearance.

Almost 500 years later the Ring decided to leave Gollum and was found by Bilbo Baggins. Afterwards Gollum left the Misty Mountains and found his way to Mordor, where he was tortured until he told Sauron everything he knew about the Ring and its finder. In the year 3017 Sauron set Gollum free but not long afterwards he was captured by Aragorn again. Aragorn brought him to the Wood-Elves who should guard him, but Gollum was able to flee and went to the Mines of Moria. There he met the Fellowship of the Ring and followed the Companions on their journey. After the breaking of the Fellowship Gollum was captured by Sam and Frodo. He swore to serve them and show them the way to Mordor and to avoid the Ring from being egained by Sauron. Then he brought the Hobbits to Cirith Ungol in the hope that Shelob would kill them. But the Hobbits reached the Cracks of Doom and there Gollum fought with Frodo. He bit off Frodo's finger with the Ring on it, and fell into the fires of Mount Doom with it.
