The appearance of the Hobbits : Hobbits are smaller than Dwarves and they have the strong skill to walk without making any noise. They lead a tranquil life and are mostly interested in eating and drinking (a hobbit usually has six meals a day.) They have a strong bond between their different families and their only science is to find out who their forefathers were. Hobbits are quick of hearing and sharp-eyed, and though they are inclined to be fat and do not hurry unnecessarily, they are nimble and deft in their movements. Hobbits seldom wear shoes because their feet have leathery soles and are clad in a thick curling hair. There are three different breeds of Hobbits : Harfoots, Stoors and Fallohides. The Harfoots are browner of skin, smaller and shorter, beardless and bootless. Their hands and feet are neat and nimble and they prefer highlands and hillsides to dwell in. The Stoors are broader, heavier in build, their feet and hands are larger and they prefer flat lands and riversides to live in. The Fallohides are fairer of skin and hair and they are taller and slimmer than the others. They prefer trees and woodlands. The other names of the hobbits : The Men call them "Halfling" and in the language of the Elves they are called "Periannath". The hobbits call themselves "Kuduk".
