| Merry is
the son of Saradoc and Esmeralda Brandybuck. He was the second cousin and, at the same time, a very good friend of Frodo. They had spent their childhood together in Buckland. Merry could be very charming but also very cheeky. But all in all, most of the hobbits liked him because he was very clever. He was also the best friend of Pippin. He joined the Fellowship of the Ring and was, together with Pippin, kidnapped by Orcs during the battle at Parth Galen. In Fangorn Forest, they were able to escape the Orcs and flee into the wood where they met the Ent Treebeard. They watched the Ents destroying Isengart. Merry became the squire of King Théoden of Rohan and rode with the Rohirrim to the Battle of the Pelennor. In that battle he slew, together with Eowyn, the Lord of the Nazgūl. For that deed he was dubbed Knight of Rohan later on. After the War of the Ring, he returned to the Shire and was called The Magnificent because of the beautiful clothes he brought back home. Later he journeyed to Edoras with Pippin and spent the last years of his life in Minas Tirith. Merry is performed by Dominic Monaghan in Peter Jackson's Lord Of The Rings. |

"The main thing I wanted to get across in the beginning, with The Fellowship of the Ring, is that Merry is just this very sharp, sarcastic and funny boy who hasn't grown up yet. But he's about to go through incredible experiences and adventures that will change him into a new person." |
