Théoden was the son of Thengel and Morwen, and he was the seventeenth King of Rohan. For a long time he had been influenced by Gríma, Saruman's spy, but Gandalf opened his eyes. After that he led the armies of Rohan into the Battle at Helm's Deep, later he also fought in the Battle at the Pelennor fields. In that battle he was slain, his nephew Éomer became the new King of Rohan.

Theoden is performed by Bernard Hill in Peter Jackson's Lord Of The Rings.
