The Witch-king was the most powerful of Sauron's servants. Originally he was a human but Sauron gave him the most powerful of the Nine Rings of Power and enslaved him. During the Second Age, his power rose and fell together with the power of Sauron. But in the year 1300 of the Third Age, he founded the Kingdom of Angmar in the North of Middle-Earth. He became the Lord of Angmar and tried to defeat the Dśnedain of Arnor. But in 1975, in the battle of Fornost, he himself was defeated by an army led by Cķrdan, Glorfindel and Earnur of Gondor. After this battle, the Lord of the Nazgūl first disappeared for a while, but in the year 2000 he and the other Nazgūl attacked Minas Ithil and finally took the town. They renamed it Minas Morgul. During the War of the Ring, the Lord of the Nazgūl wounded Frodo on the Weathertop and led the attack on Minas Tirith. Faith to Gandalf, he could not enter the town. He slew Théoden on the Pelennor fields and was slain himself by Merry and Éowyn. Thus the prophecy of the battle of Fornost came true that he would not be killed by the hand of a man. The Lord of the Nazgūl was taller than the other Nazgūl and had more power. He wore a crown and could only be wounded by swords with a certain spell. |
