We learn more about the way the One Ring betrayed Isildur. He and his soldiers were attacked by Orcs. Isildur wanted to escape and put the One ring on. Isildur became invisible, and the Orcs could not see him anymore. But while Isildur swam through a river, the Ring fell from his finger and he became visible again. Now that the Orcs could see him again, they killed him and the Ring was lost on the ground of the river, where it was found many years later by Sméagol. |

After the prologue, there is a completely new scene with Bilbo sitting in his study. We see first some old maps of Bilbo and then Bilbo himself sitting at his desk and writing the first chapter of his book which is called "Concerning Hobbits". While he is writing we see many scenes of the Shire, showing Hobbits and their life. This is what Bilbo writes : "Hobbits have been living and farming in the four Frathing of the Shire for many hundreds of years, quite content to ignore and be ignored by the world of the Big Folk. Middle-Earth being, after all, full of strange creatures beyond count Hobbits must seem of little importance, being neither renowned as great warriors nor counted among the very wise. In fact it has been remarked by some that Hobbits' only real passion is for food. A rather unfair observation, as we have also developed a keen interest in the brewing of ales and the smoking of pipe-weed. But where our hearts truly lie is in piece and quiet and good tilled earth... For all Hobbits share a love of things that grow. And yes, no doubt to others, our ways seem quaint. But today of all days, it is brought home to me : it is no bad thing to celebrate a simple life." |

After Bilbo has finished to write his first sentences, someone knocks on the door. Bilbo yells at Frodo and askes him to open the door, but Frodo is laying in a field where he is reading. Then Gandalf arrives. While Gandalf and Frodo are driving to Bag End, there is still the voice over of Bilbo who is talking about the Shire and the Hobbits : "And so life in the Shire goes on very much as it has this past Age, full of its own comings and goings, with change coming slowly. If it comes at all. For things are made to endure in the Shire passing from one generation to the next. There's always been a Baggins living here under the hill in Bag End. And there always will be." |
Frodo : "To tell you the truth, Bilbo's been a bit odd lately. I mean, more than usual. He's taken to lock himself in his study. He spends hours and hours poring over old maps when he thinks I am not looking." While Frodo tells Gandalf about this, Bilbo is shown in his study. He puts his hand in his pocket, searching for the Ring. He cannot find it and starts to search for it everywhere, getting more and more nervous. Finally he founds it in his pocket and is some kind of relieved. |
Frodo : "He is up to something." Gandalf pretends to know nothing about all this. Frodo : "All right, then keep your secrets !" Then, as usual, Gandalf makes his fireworks for the children and Frodo leaves Gandalf. |

The next small new scene comes up in Bag End when someone knocks on the door. Bilbo tells Gandalf that he pretends not to be at home because the Sackville-Bagginses are there to see if they cannot make Bag End become their own. Also on Bilbo's birthday party there is a new scene, showing Bilbo and Frodo hiding because of the Sackville-Bagginses. |

After Frodo and Sam have left Hobbiton, they see some Elves travelling to the West. Both are fascinated by the beauty of the Elves and they are sad that they will leave Middle-Earth and never come back... But for Sam, this is the only nice thing on their journey, as he has problems to sleep because roots are sticking in his back all the time. Even trying to imagine that he is back home in his own bed doesn't help him. |

After they left Bree with Strider, the distrust between Strider and the Hobbits is shown far more. Merry asks Frodo how they can know that Strider is a friend of Gandalf. But Frodo only answers : "I think a server of the enemy would look fairer and feel fouler ! We have no choice but to trust him." Then the Hobbits have to pass some moors where they are biten by midges. Merry askes what everyone wonders about : "What do they eat when they can´t get Hobbits ?" |

Running Time : 1 min 13 secs. At night, when the Hobbits are asleep, Strider is still awake and sings the song of Beren and Lúthien. Frodo hears him and Strider explains to him that Lúthien was immortal, but when she gave her love and her life to Beren, who was mortal, she also became mortal and died. |

At the council of Elrond, some new shots have been added. Boromir tries to take the Ring, and Gandalf stops him by saying what is engraved on the Ring in the black speech of Mordor. No one before him ever dared to use the Black Speech in Rivendell. |
