Easter Egg : Select the chapter 36 and press down on your remote control's direction pad to highlight a ring icon. Click on the ring icon. The first Easter Egg is an interview with Dominic Monaghan and Elijah Wood, Dominic pretending to be a German interviewer, Hans Jensen.

Gandalf and Pippin stand together on a balcony in Minas Tirith. It is the same scene as in the theatrical edition until Gandalf says :

Gandalf : You're in the service of the steward now. You'll have to do as you're told, Peregrin Took. (Gandalf smokes his pipe and coughs while Pippin is filling a cup with water) Ridiculous Hobbit. Guard of the Citadel. (He coughs again and Pippin hands him the cup). Thank you.

Pippin looks up to the sky.

Pippin : There's no more stars. Is it time ?
Gandalf : Yes.

Frodo, Sam and Gollum are walking up the stairs of Cirith Ungol.

Gollum : Up, up, up the stairs we go. And then it's into the tunnel.
Sam : Hey, what's in this tunnel ?

Gollum tries to escape but Sam grabbs him.

Sam : You listen to me, and you listen good and proper. Anything happens to him, you have me to answer to. One sniff something's not right, one hair stands up on the back of my head, it's over. No more slinker. No more stinker. You're gone. Got it ? I'm watching you. (Sam goes upstairs).
Frodo : What was that about ?
Sam : Nothing. Just clearing something up.

Gollum looks satisfied.

There are additional shots before the battle between Faramir's men and the Orcs, in Osgiliath.

Madril : It's been very quiet across the river. The Orcs are lying low. The garrison may have moved out. We've sent scouts to Cair Andros. If the Orcs attack from the north, we'll have some warning.

We see Gothmog leading his Orcs.

From an upper wall, a Gondorian soldier sees them approach. Gothmog orders "Kill him !" to one of his orcs, that shoots a well-aimed arrow. The soldier falls down to the ground, dead, warning Faramir.

Faramir :  They're not coming from the north.

Théoden decides that Rohan will help Gondor. There are additional shots after Aragorn talks to Éowyn, noticing she's hidden a sword.

Merry : (To Théoden) Excuse me. (He's holding his sword) I have a sword. Please accept it. (He kneels down before Théoden) I offer you my service, Théoden King.

Théoden helps Merry to gets up.

Théoden : And gladly I accept it. You shall be Meriadoc, esquire of Rohan.

Merry looks excited.

After Merry offered his service to Théoden, Legolas and Gimli speak.

Gimli : Horse-men. I wish I could muster a legion of Dwarves, fully armed and filthy.
Legolas : Your kinsmen may have no need to ride to war. I fear war already marches on their own lands.

We see a shot of Merry trying to make his horse move.

Denethor and Faramir talk after the captain returned from Osgiliath.

Denethor : This is how you serve your city ? You would risk its utter ruin ?
Faramir : I did what I judged to be right.
Denethor : What you judged to be right ? You sent the Ring of Power into Mordor in the hands of a witless Halfling. It should have been brought back to the Citadel to be kept safe. Hidden. Dark and deep in the vaults not to be used. Unless at the uttermost end of need.
Faramir : I would not use the Ring. Not if Minas Tirith were falling in ruin and I alone could save her.
Denethor : Ever you desire to appear lordly and gracious as a king of old. Boromir would have remembered his father's need. He would have brought me a kingly gift.
Faramir : Boromir would not have brought the Ring. He would have stretched out his hand to this thing and taken it. He would've fallen.
Denethor : You know nothing of his matter !
Faramir : He would have kept it for his own. And when he returned you would not have known your son.
Denethor : (Standing up in anger) Boromir was loyal to me ! Not some wizard's pupil ! (He steps back and falls).
Faramir : (Moving towards Denethor) Father ?

Denethor looks in Faramir's direction but his eyes are captured by something behind him. He stands up, smiles and says "My son." Behind Faramir stands the vision of Boromir.

But the vision of Boromir vanishes and Denethor sinks into sadness again. His face shows now anger.

Denethor : (To Faramir) Leave me.

Faramir regards him for a moment, then walks away.

The attack of Minas Tirith starts. Pippin, in his Gondorian armour, is sitting alone outside of the Hall of Kings.

Pippin : (To himself) What were you thinking, Peregrin Took ? What service can a Hobbit offer such a great lord of Men ?
Faramir : (His voice his heard off screen) It was well-done.

Pippin stands up as Faramir enters.

Faramir : A generous deed should not be checked with cold counsel. You are to join the tower guard.
Pippin : I didn't think they would find any livery that would fit me.
Faramir : Once belonged to a young boy of the city. A very foolish one who wasted many hours slaying dragons instead of attending to his studies.
Pippin : This was yours ?

Faramir : Yes, it was mine. My father had it made for me.
Pippin : Well... I'm taller than you were then. Though I'm not likely to grow anymore, except sideways.

They laugh together.

Faramir : Never fitted me either. Boromir was always the soldier. They were so alike, he and my father. Proud. Stubborn even. But strong.
Pippin : I think you have strength of a different kind. And one day your father will see it.

Aragorn, Legolas and Gimli are riding to the Paths of the Dead.

Legolas : Long ago, The Men of the Mountains swore an oath to the last king of Gondor to come to his aid to fight. But when the time came, when Gondor's need was dire they fled, vanishing into the darkness of the mountain. And so Isildur cursed them... Never to rest until they had fulfilled their pledge. Who shall call them from the grey twilight ? The forgotten people. The heir of him to whom the oath they swore. From the north shall he come. Need shall drive him. He shall pass the door to the Paths of the Dead.

They enter the opening in the rocks.

Aragorn, Legolas and Gimli are inside of the Paths of the Dead. Their torches unveil a hundred of human skulls lying on the ground.

Gimli : (To Legolas) What is it ? What do you see ?
Legolas : I see shapes of men and of horses.
Gimli : Where ?
Legolas : Pale banners like shreds of cloud. Spears rise like winter-thickets through a shroud of mist. The dead are following. They have been summoned.
Gimli : The Dead ? Summoned ? I knew that. Very good. Very good. Legolas ! (He starts to run as he realizes that he is alone).

The shapes of human arms are surrounding Legolas and Aragorn. When they start to surround Gimli, he tries to make them vanish by puffing them away.

Aragorn : Do not look down.

Gimli stops as he hears a crackling sound under his feet. He finally looks down and sees hundreds of skulls. Every step he takes lets a crackling out.

The sequence continues the way it does in the theatrical edition until Aragorn asks for the Dead to fight for him and to regain their honour.

Aragorn : I am Isildur's heir. Fight for me and I will hold your oaths fulfilled. What say you ?

The King of the Dead laughes. The army of the Dead disappears slowly.

Aragorn : You have my word ! Fight, and I will release you from this living death ! What say you ?!
Gimli : Stand, you traitors !

The ground shakes. Skulls are rolling on the floor. Aragorn, Legolas and Gimli turn around to watch the city. Thousands of skulls are coming out from its walls, breaking everything. Aragorn screams "Out ! Legolas ! Run !" They try to find a way to escape and finally manage to get out of this place. Outside, Aragorn sees the ships of the Corsairs of Umbar arriving. He looks sadly at the destroyed cities near the river and seats down.

But he suddenly hears a sound coming from the rocks. He turns around. The King of the Dead shows himself. He says "We fight".
