As The Return of the King opens, the War of the Ring has begun. The Dark Lord Sauron has set his army, led by the King of the Nazgûls against the forces of good, led by the remaining members of the fellowship who have vowed to aid Frodo on his quest to destroy the Ring. While they continue to fight against their sworn enemy, Frodo (Elijah Wood) and Sam (Sean Astin) push farther into the land of Mordor. Sauron wages his final siege. Mankind has never been more desperately in need of its King. Aragorn (Viggo Mortensen), revealed to be the hidden heir of the ancient kings of Gondor, travels to Minas Tirith with an army of undead soldiers to recapture the city from the Eye's grasp. They fight in a single purpose... to distract Sauron and allow Frodo to complete his quest in this final decisive moment. The alliance of the Hobbits with the deceitful Gollum (Andy Serkis) brings them to the heart of Mount Doom.
