| :: Bang ! :: |
The scene in Bag End when Gandalf hits his forehead against the ceiling (in The Fellowship Of The Ring) was Ian McKellen's idea, although Peter Jackson said in the DVD that it wasn't intended. In July 2004, Ian explained on his official website : "Peter, for once, is wrong. The head-banging was my idea but I'm glad if it seemed spontaneous, the aim of all actors." |

| :: Behind-the-scenes of ROTK :: |
The opening sequence of The Return Of The King, between Sméagol and Déagol, was originally planned to feature in The Two Towers. It was a flash-back scene, which was inserted when Gollum, Frodo and Sam are in the Dead Marshes. Frodo would say "Sméagol... That was your name once, wasn't it ?" and the camera would move forward Gollum and dive into his eyes. The flash-back sequence would begin. But it didn't seem appropriate to include it in The Two Towers. The song performed by Liv Tyler (The Return Of The King Extended Edition) was composed for the scene when Arwen rides with the Elves to the Grey Havens and she sees her son. But it wouldn't work and the song was chosen to feature in the House of Healing sequence. (The lyrics were written by Fran Walsh). The shots of Sean Astin on the stairs of Cirith Ungol were filmed one year before the shots of Elijah Wood. Andy Serkis had not been hired yet ! An unexpected scale-double... At the first entry of Sam, with Shelob rolling Frodo, it is not Sean Astin's arm holding Sting that we see, but Peter Jackson's. The day the sequence at the Grey Havens was filmed, Sean Astin took off his jacket for lunch but forgot to put it back when he came back to the set. The entire scene had to be shoot again (the mistake is still in the movie though...) |

| :: Strider's smell :: |
From ContactMusic.com (May 2005) : "He employed unusual personal hygiene methods while making the fantasy trilogy - relying on nature to keep him clean. Dominic Monaghan says, 'He uses leaves and berries instead and smells like a decaying gardener.'" |
