+ Galathilion : After the Elves started to live in the city Tirion in Aman, Yavanna made a White Tree for them and called it Galathilion. Celeborn, the White Tree of Tol Eressëa was a seedling of it. |

+ Galdor : Also called The Tall he was the Lord of Dor-lómin for seven years until he died in the year 462 of the First Age. He was the father of Húrin and Huor and probably born between 410 and 420 of the First Age. |

+ Galvorn : A black metal which was found by Eöl. It was said to be as hard as steel but suplle and malleable at the same time. |

+ Gelion : The river that was the eastern border of Beleriand. It seperated the lands of Thargelion and Ossiriand from East Beleriand. |

+ Gildor : One of the outlaws that dwelt with Barahir at Tarn Aeluin after the Dagor Bragollach. |

+ Gildor Inglorion : He was an elf of the house of Finrod. Frodo, Pippin and Sam met him when they left Hobbingen and went to Crickhollow. Gildor was a Noldor. |

+ Gil-Galad : Originally called Ereinion. He was the king of the Elves of Lindon. His father was Fingon, the king of the Noldor. Gil-Galad fought many wars against Melkor and Celbrimbor gave him the two rings of Power of the Elves, Narya and Vilya. Later, Gil-Galad gave these rings to Círdan and Elrond. Together with his friend Elendil, Gil-Galad built the Last Alliance of Men and elves and fought the War of the Last Alliance. |

+ Ginglith : A river in West Beleriand which flowed into the Narog above Nargothrond. |

+ Girdle of Melian : The fence of enchantment that was set around Doriath by Melian to protect the Kingdom of Morgoth and his servants. |

+ Glaurung : Also called "Golden Father of the dragons". He was the first dragon, breeded by Morgoth. He first appeared early in the First Age but he wasn't fully grown at this time, so that the Noldor were able to drive him back. Later he took part in many battles, also in the Nirnaeth Arneodiad, and was finally slain by Túrin. |

+ Glingal : One of the Two Trees of Gondolin (see below) which were made by Turgon in memory of the Two Trees of Valinor. Glingal was the golden one, Belthil was the silver one. |

+ Glóredhel : She was the daughter of Hador Lórindol and became the wife of Haldir, son of Halmir. Moreover she was the sister of Galdor (see above). |

+ Glorfindel : He was an Elf of Rivendell who helped Frodo to flee to Rivendell after Frodo had been hurt by a Nazgúl. We do not know if this Glorfindel is the same who was slain by a Balrog during the Fall of Gondolin. |

+ Gondolin : The hidden city which laid in the valley Tumladen and was surrounded by the Encircling Mountains. It was builded by Turgon in the year 126 of the First Age and he and his people moved there secretly. The city was inviolate for almost four hundred years, but Morgoth's servants finally discovered Gondolin through the treachery of Maeglin. Gondolin was destroyed in the year 510 of the First Age. Gondolin means "Hidden Rock" and was also called Ondolindë, "Rock of the Music of Water". |

+ Gorlim : One of the outlaws following Barahir. Gorlim was captured by Sauron who forced him to betray Barahir so that he, Sauron, was able to slay all the outlaws except Beren. |

+ Gothmog : Gothmog was the most powerful of the Balrogs and one of the chief servants of Morgoth with almost as much power as Sauron. His weapon was a great balck axe. He first appeared in the Dagor-nuin-giliath where he slew Fëanor. Gothmog was slain by Ecthelion in the War of Gondolin. |

+ Great journey of the Elves : The name of the journey of the Elves which they did just after their awakening. The Elves travelled from Cuivienen across Middle-Earth to Aman. Originally called Ereinion. |

+ Great Lake : In the Great Lake laid the island of Almaren, the place were the Valar took their first home. |
|
+ Great Sea : Also called Belegaer. It was the mighty ocean that laid at the western coasts of Middle-Earth. Across this ocean to the west there laid Aman. After Beleriand had been destroyed the Isle Númenor was set in the middle between Aman and Middle-Earth. |

+ Green Elves : The name of those Elves of the Nandor that lived in Ossiriand. |
|
+ Green Mound : Another name for Ezellohar. The Two Trees of Valinor grew there. |
|
+ Grey Elves : The Sindar, those of the Teleri who remained in Beleriand when their kin travelled across the Great Sea (see above). |
| + Grima Wormtongue : See Grima on our characters page. |

+ Grond : Also called the Hammer of the Underworld, Grond was Morgoth's mighty mace. He bore it when he slew Fingolfin before the gates of Angband. The hammer was destroyed in the War of Wrath at the end of the First Age. |

+ Guarded Plain : Another name for Talath Dirnen which layed in West Beleriand, north of Nargothrond, and was guarded by the followers of Finrod. |
|
+ Guarded Realm : Another name for Valinor. |
|
+ Gundor : The second son of Hador Lórindol. He was slain with his father in the Dagor Bragollach. |
|
+ Gwaihir : A mighty eagle that lived in the Third Age. He was a friend of Gandalf and helped him very often during the War of the Ring. |
|
+ Gwindor : Gwindor was a prince of Nargothrond and the son of Guilin. He took part in the Nirnaeth Arnoediad and was captured by Morgoth. Later he escaped and met Túrin Turambar. With him, he returned to Nargothrond. |
