+ Idril : The daughter of Turgon who was born in Valinor during the Years of the Trees and sailed into the West in the year 560 of the First Age. She wedded Ulmo's messenger Tuor, their son was Eärendil.

 

+ Illuin : One of the two Lamps of the Valar. It stood in the north of Middle-Earth and was destroyed by Melkor. Where it fell it created the sea Helcar.

 

+ Ilúvatar : The elvish name of Eru.

 

+ Indis : The second wife of Finwë. He married her after his first wife Míriel had died. She was a Vanyar and had two sons, Fingolfin and Finarfin.

 

+ Ingwë : He was the leader of the Vanyar. He lived on the Taniquetil beneath the halls of Manwë.

 

+ Irmo : Another name of the Valar Lórien.

 

+ Iron Crown : The crown of Morgoth which was forged by him at the beginning of the First Age. The crown held the three Silmarils and was destroyed in the War of Wrath.

 

+ Isil : The name of the Moon, given to it by the Vanyar. It means "the Sheen". After the Two Trees of Valinor had been destroyed by Melkor and Ungoliant, Telperion bore only one last flower. For this flower a vessel was made by Aulë's folk. The vessel was guarded by Tilion and srose into the sky. Later the Moon was attacked by Melkor who sent dark spirits after it, but the Tilion was victorious.

 
+ Isildur : see Isildur in the characters section.
 

+ Ivrin : A pool in the southern part of the Ered Wethrin. It formed the source of the Narog.
