+ Radhruin : One of the twelve companions that became outlaws together with Barahir, the others being for example Gorlim and Ragnor (see below).

 

+ Ragnor : One of the outlaw companions of Barahir. He was lost with all the other companions in the year 457 of the First Age when the outlaws were attacked by Orcs. The only outlaw surviving this attack was Beren as he was not in the camp at the time of the attack. Ragnor was a man of the House of Bëor.

 

+ Ramdal : The name of some hills which laid west of Amon Ereb. They marked the end of the Andram.

 

+ Rána : Another name for the Moon, given to it by the Noldor. Rána means "the Wayward".

 

+ Rathlóriel : Another name for the river Ascar.

 

+ Region : A forest on the banks of the river Esgalduin. The forest was the bigger part of the kingdom Doriath, in it laid the halls of Menegroth.

 

+ Rían : The daughter of Belegund and wife of Huor. She gave birth to Tuor and was the grandmother of Eärendil.

 
+ Ring (One) : See our One Ring page.
 

+ Ring of Doom : Also called Máhanaxar. The place near the gates of Valmar, where the Valar set in council. For example to this ring Melkor was brought and there the Valar deicded that he should be put in chains.

 

+ Ringil : The sword of Fingolfin. He used it in the single combat with Morgoth. The sword is said to have glittered like ice.

 

+ Rivil : One of the tributaries of the Sirion. It rose in the heights of Dorthonion and met the Sirion at the Fen of Serech.

 

+ Rochallor : The horse of Fingolfin. Fingolfin rode on Rochallor to Angband to ask Morgoth for single combat.

 

+ Rúmil : An elf who invented the first written letters and runes.
