Iron Orc Smithy Makers Mark ™Purchasing Lord of the Ring Swords

You've read all the books and you've seen the movie. You love the swords, and want one hanging on your wall to show off. Well, you are in luck. There are currently three companies that are licensed by New Line Cinema to produce official reproductions based upon the swords in the movies. This section will attempt to keep you up to date on who is producing which swords.

United Cutlery

United Cutlery Corporation is a wholesale company based in Sevierville, TN. They carry numerous lines of knives and swords from brand names such as Colt®, Harley-Davidson® and Stanley® to well-known knife makers such as Kit Rae. United Cutlery is officially licensed by New Line Productions, Inc. to produce and sell specific swords from J.R.R Tolkien's "Lord of the Rings" movies.

These pieces are not designed to be "combat ready" swords, but rather as display pieces. They are made from tempered 420 J2 stainless steel and are not sharpened (with the exception of the tip, which is sharp). Each sword comes with a certificate of authenticity as well as an easy-to-mount display plaque. United Cutlery prides itself on the practice of producing their swords to the exact specifications of the props that are used in the "Lord of the Rings" movies.

United Cutlery recently started an online forum (United Cutlery Forums) dealing exclusively with their product lines. It's a small forum as of now, but has great potential, and is an excellent place to get information on any of the products they sell.

Unfortunately for us consumers, United Cutlery is a wholesale operation that sells exclusively to dealers and not to the general public, however, their web site does have links to distributors of their knives and swords,

United Cutlery currently produces several Lord of the Rings swords including:

Sting

Glamdring

Witchking (Lord of the Nazgul sword)

Narsil (unbroken)

Sword of the Ringwraiths

United Cutleriy's versions of Sting, Glamdring, Witchking and Narsil

They plan to release the following items at some time this year:

  • Scabbard for Sting
  • Miniature versions of Sting, Glamdring and Witchking
  • Special edition of Narsil (no specific news yet on what this is - possibly a broken version of the sword or embellished with 24K gold)
  • Ranger Sword (this is what Aragorn carries in The Fellowship of the Ring movie)
  • Arwen's Sword (this is identical or very similar to the sword carried by Elrond as well)
  • Uruk-hai Scimitar (OK, so the sword looks a bit more like a machete than a scimitar, but that's what New Line has decided to call it).
  • Legolas' Fighting Knives (these are still tentative)

The Machete!

The New Ringwraiths Sword: This is Available to Pre-order at Blades by Brown

Unfortunately, United Cutlery does not sell directly to the public - only to authorised dealers.

Blades By Brown

Blades By Brown is a licensed UC dealer, and you can get the swords through them, as well as numerous other knives. If you are a member of LOTRO forums, which is sponsored by Blades by Brown, you can get a discount on the swords. Just make sure you talk to Swordsman in the Middle-earth Weapons section of the forum and he will ensure that you get the discount when you order.

Museum Replicas

Museum Replicas Logo

Museum Replicas carries numerous medieval weapons, armour, clothing and accessories, and have recently been licensed by New Line to produce swords from the movies. Unfortunately, Museum Replicas does not give much information on the swords other than their sizes. (I.e. there is no mention of what metal was used to make the blades, etc.) In fact, it looks like they are the same swords made by United Cutlery, perhaps they are just acting as a reseller.

Museum Replicas currently carries the following swords:

Sting

Glamdring

Withcking

The Noble Collection

Their weapons are rather elaborate and decorative, often with gold inlay, etc. They can be on the expensive side, but are extremely attractive.

The Noble Collection currently carries the following weapons:

Sting

Scabbard for Sting

Gimli's Axe
