This section will endeavour to trace, display and analyse the campaigns, battles, and skirmishes of the military forces that J.R.R. Tolkien portrayed in Middle Earth. We will be concentrating on the combats presented in The Lord of the Rings first, and we'll eventually expand to encompass the entire history of Middle Earth.

Whenever possible, exact troop numbers, movements, etc., will be presented according to the original works of Tolkien, however, Tolkien did not always give complete details of the combats, and some suppositions will have to be made. These assumptions will be annotated in the descriptions of the battles. While they attempt to remain as true to the text as possible, the interpretations of the battles presented here are the original works of their authors, and are by no means definitive.

This section will be split into four basic sections for ease of access:

Campaigns will examine the troop movements and battles within the campaign.

Battles will examine the troops, tactics and outcomes of the individual conflicts.

Skirmishes will look at the small-scale engagements that involved the major characters, but were too small to be considered battles.

Finally, Forces will examine the types of troops, organization and accoutrement by culture.
