Fancy a pint? This set of ceramic pints is manufactured by Applause under license to New Line Productions and Tolkien Enterprises. The set comes with one each of both The Riders of Rohan and The Fighting Uruk-hai Pints. They are advertised as being both microwave and dishwasher safe, and as of this time, have held up to several runs through each.
The pints are well made with walls thick enough to handle at least a minor amount of abuse without breaking. The illustrations on both pints appear to have been applied before the final glazing of the ceramics, ensuring that they should not peel or flake off over time. The illustrations themselves are quite crisp and clear and have an overall good appearance.
The imagery Uruk-hai pint has a warn metal background emblazoned with the white hand of Saruman on front and back, as well as a line of rivets down the side. The decoration on the pint that I have is slightly different than the one pictured here and on the cover of the box. The rusty metallic image only extends to just below the Uruk-hai text where it is bordered by a red band as in the picture. The bottom of the pint is similar to the Rohan pint, having a band around the base that has the appearance of a series of rivets in steel.
The Rohan pint has an elegant Celtic appearance to it with a Celtic Knot pattern running both around the pint in the middle and at the bottom. There are two different Celtic-style horses on the pint, one on each side.
The pints have a good feel to them, being neither overly large or heavy. The fit quite nicely into the average adult hand, and are comfortable to drink from. They typically retain at about $20.00 (U.S.)
Advantages
This is a very well made and attractive set of pints, definitely worth the reasonable price tag.
Disadvantages
If you are a big fan of either the Uruk-hai or Riders of Rohan, you get stuck with a pint you may not appreciate, especially if you desire to build a large set of either.
Disclaimer
Drinking any beverages (especially alcoholic ones) from these mugs will not make one fierce like the Uruk-hai or bold in battle like the Riders of Rohan .
We cannot find a direct purchase link for these but Tolkien Town may stock them.
