Not sure what to get for your favourite Tolkien fanatic? Not sure what juicy goody to ask Santa for? Or just want to treat yourself this holiday?? Well, let us help you out. We've got a line up of some of this season's hottest picks for all LOTR fans:
Books | Movies | CDs | Toys/Games | Lots of other goodies!
Books
**Staff pick!** WotR Staffer Amithrellas picks Roverandom (always a favourite!) and Letters from Father Christmas. Two Tolkien classics!
The Art of the Lord of the Rings by Gary Russell. It's perfect for movie, art or costume buffs. And if you don't yet have the first three volumes of this series, ask Santa for those too. The Art of the Fellowship of the Ring, The Art of the Two Towers, The Art of the Return of the King.
**Staff pick!** WotR Staffer Cuiel Rilwen is hoping to find Tolkien's Middle-Earth and Monsters Postcard Book under her tree this year! She also recommends Alan Lee's Lord of the Rings and Hobbit Poster Collections or the Lord of the Rings Postcard Book.
**Staff pick!** WotR Staffer Feebeefi recommends Sean Astin's There and Back Again for a great holiday read. Sean has been promoting this book everywhere. Sounds like a perfect read after Christmas dinner!
The Maps of Tolkien's Middle Earth with narrative by Brian Sibley and art by John Howe. The slip-case cover has the gorgeous painting of Bag End by Howe with the door as a cut-out. You get four maps in this set: Beleriand, Númenor, The Hobbit, and Middle-earth.
For your favourite Elvish languages student, A Gateway to Sindarin by David Salo, who was the Elvish language expert for Peter Jackson's movies. And for your favourite philosophy student, the very interesting The Lord of the Rings and Philosophy: One Book to Rule Them All.
The Tolkien Calendar 2005 would be a great stocking-stuffer!
For more book ideas, have a look at Explore More, the Complete Houghton Mifflin J.R.R. Tolkien Catalog.
An extra special gift would be the The Lord of the Rings - The Motion Picture Trilogy SE DVD Edition!
CDs
There is also the incredible, award-winning score by composer Howard Shore. You can pick up the The Fellowship of the Ring, The Two Towers, and the The Return of the King. There is also The Return of the King (CD+DVD special edition).
Or you can get a special boxed edition of all three CDs here.
The BBC dramatization of The Lord of the Rings narrated by Ian Holm.
At Dawn in Rivendell by the Tolkien Ensemble. This CD featuring Christopher Lee is a classic.
Toys and Games
EA's The Third Age or The Return of the King. A must for gamers!
A wonderfully decadent gift is the LOTR Collector's Chess Set from Noble Collections.
For some Christmas Day fun you can give the LOTR Edition of the Trivial Pursuit DVD Game.
Other Goodies:
More incredible sword recommendations are Sting, Glamdring, the Witchking Sword, Arwen's Sword, and Anduril.
Then there are staffs of immense power for the wizards on your list ... Staff of Gandalf the White, Staff of Saruman.
Other gear for brave warriors ... Legolas Elven Daggers, Helm of Elendil, Gimli's Helm.
There is also the popular Pendant of Arwen and Ring of Barahir. Or give Eowyn's Headdress and Necklace as a stunning set.
These Elven, Orc, Rohan and Gondor banners and flags from The Mithril Armoury make for amazing, unique gifts!
You can even hang Frodo on your tree for a really Hobbity Yule.
Finally a couple from Sideshow/WETA:
If you have the Deluxe Extended Edition of The Return of the King then the sister city to Minas Tirth is a must, Sideshow tell us they have sold thousands of these in a the last few days. Minus Morgul has the same detail as the Minas Tirith model, though it does not open up. Details on that here.
**Staff Pick!** Fatty recommends some of the busts from the range as well. " I was sent the King Theoden bust as a sample and was quite surprised. Usually I do not go for figurines or busts (an aversion to ornaments from the trauma of my dads taste in hideous figurines!), however I do like this one. The actual bust's are a bit smaller than I thought but they are also a lot better than the photos show."
"Detailing on the Theoden one is amazing and it is actually a might creepy, since it is like having Bernard Hill's disembodied head sitting looking at you."
"The thing also weighs a ton, is weight a sign of quality? Well in this case I think it is. If the wife allows I may even procure some more of these. I have included some snaps of him in the kitchen :-) As I say the photos on Sideshow's site do not really do it justice, alas my digi camera is not up to much either"
Some Sneaky Info
As a side note we are also told that there are a few things now available on Sidewhow site that were previously back-ordered.
Gandalf the Grey and Legolas Greenleaf statue in both US and EU warehouses. Also quite a few Morgul Lords now in the EU warehouse. Note they show as sold out but well we know they have some in the EU!
Happy Holidays and Merry Yule to all of you from all of us here at War of the Ring!
