---Description (from Focus on the Family):Some 60 years ago, J.R.R. Tolkien created an extraordinary fantasy adventure. In Finding God in the Lord of the Rings, Kurt Bruner and Jim Ware examine the "story behind" the stories — the inspirational themes of hope, redemption and faith that Tolkien wove into his classic tales.
Review by Basewood:
This book was authorized by Focus on the Family and has cool authors, Kurt Bruner and Jim Ware. This book is a collection of Christian reflections on The Lord of the Rings trilogy by J.R.R. Tolkien (Friends called him "Tollers"). He was a Christian and, although his writings were not Christian in body, there was no way that he could keep them from being Christian in nature, since he was….. a Christian.
Finding God in the Lord of the Rings has nearly twenty applications to the Christian lifestyle, all drawn directly from Tolkien’s Silmarillion, Hobbit, and Lord of the Rings. Each thought (or chapter) starts with an excerpt from Tolkien’s writing and explains the situation surrounding it. The second part of each chapter explains the Christian message behind the literary situation, then ends with an excerpt from the Bible relevant to the subject of the chapter.
I highly recommend this to any Christians who are sold out on the Single Greatest Story ever written to date, The Lord of the Rings. |
