---Description (from back of book): The Lord of the Rings: The Making of the Movie Trilogy is lavishly illustrated, behind-the-scenes, definitive account of the creation of an epic film experience. Hailed by critics worldwide, the first movie was a box-office smash, one of the most successful films of the decade. Peter Jackson's "fierce, imaginative movice takes high-flying risks and inspires with its power and scale," said Newsweek. "In every way this is a moviemaking on a grand scale," wrote the San Francisco Chronicle.

Including more than 300 photographs from all three films, most unique to this book, and exclusive interviews with the cast and crew, Brian Sibley's fascinating book takes fans inside the process of adapting J.R.R. Tolkien's masterwork for the screen. For the first time, three major movies were made at once, a triumphant and monumental undertaking that took the world by storm. Here are the details about the hundreds of dedicated artists, crafts people and cast and crew members who labored for years - adding authenticity at every stage - to bring one of the greatest stories ever told to an eager film audience. Sibley shows us how the magic is made -from the director, writers and actors to wardrobe, makeup, mineratures, music and digital special effects, it's all here.

---About the Author (from the back of the book): Brian Sibley is a writer and broadcaster with a lifelong interest in fantasy books and cinema. His introductory The Lord of the Rings Official Movie Guide was a New York Times bestseller for over four months. For this more in-depth account he traveled to New Zealand and interviewed more than 150 people associated with the production.

---Quote: "It was a familiar sight, yet not quite what one expected. The customs desks at Wellington Airport, manned by four officials in crisp, white, short-sleeved shirts with ties and epaulets and smiles that were friendly and welcoming yet necessarity "official." What was odd were the signs over the desks: not the usual New Zealand Citizens and Other Passports but Orcs, Trolls, Wizards and Hobbits."

"This was a full-page newspaper advertisement produced for the Wellington City Council to congratulate Peter Jackson on securing the finance to make The Lord of the Rings. The caption - "Welcome to Middle Earth" - told every reader what the world's moviegoers were still to discover: that the film version of Tolkien's epic novel was not just being made in New Zealand but that New Zealand had itself been cast as a leading character - indedd, as the realm of Middle-earth!"

Review by emplynx:

Wow. This is such an excellent book I don't even know where to start. I'll start off by apologizing. If you have read my review about the Lord of the Rings: Official Movie Guide you must know that I was wrong. In that review I stated: This is a really, really good book. It has everything you might ever want to know about the Lord of the Rings movies. That is absolutely wrong. This is the book that has everything. This book is almost 200 (compared to 120 in Movie Guide) pages and almost over 300 pictures of Tolkein-geek information.

This book covers practically everything that went into the making of the Lord of the Rings trilogy. From the chapter covering the making of Hobbit Feet to Theoden's Edoras to the costume shop, The Making of the Movie Trilogy is easily read, thorough, and simply brilliant. Because Mr. Sibley traveled to New Zealand during the production of Jackson's movies, he presents all this information not just as a simple researcher, but as a first hand reporter who probably knows as much about these movies as Peter Jackson himself. The books is full of photos showing movie captures, production drawing, movie sets, and more.

This book is simply a resource that must be in the hand of every Tolkien fan. Brian Sibley once again crafted a masterpiece of a book that is like no other. All I can hope for now is the third book in the trilogy to be released soon.
