Hi, I’m new, what do I do?
You must be registered with us to post stories. If you are new, click on “Login” and then on “Register”. Fill in the form and click “Submit”. Your account will be activated and you will be able to submit your work for posting.

What is a “pen name”?
A “pen name” is a name that an author publishes their work under. In our online publishing world, it is the same as your “user ID” or "account name". The name you enter here will be the name that your works with us with be listed under.

if you would like to be credited under your real name, you may enter it in the text of your story. We still recommend a "pen name" for the creation of your account.

I’m having trouble with my password, what do I do?
If you’ve forgotten your password, go to “Login” and click on “Lost password”. This will generate a temporary password and email it to you. Once you have logged in, please change your password. **We also recommend changing your password from time to time as a security precaution.

If the system does not recognize your password, please send an email to the Editor. The Editor will assign you a password and email it to you. Once you are logged in, please change your password.

How do I post a story, chapter or poem?
Login and go to your “User Account Page” (click on “Your Account” from the menu at the top).
**Please take the time to read through the Guidelines if you are new. This will eliminate a lot of angst if your story is not posted. It is also useful to refresh yourself on the Guidelines every now and then. **

• Choose the appropriate Category and click “Select”.
• Enter “Title”, “Chapter Title” and “Summary”.
• Please select the appropriate Warning or Rating, if this is necessary.
• You may also select Characters your story is mainly about, if you are in the appropriate category.
• Enter your submission in the text box. Space paragraphs properly (see below) and use any of the text attributes listed to the side of the box (what are these? – see below). When you are finished, click “Preview”.
• You may also enter your story from a file on your computer using the “Browse” button. Once the file has been selected, click “Preview”.
• You will be able to preview your story to ensure that it appears the way you want it to. Then click “Add Story”.

**A couple of things to remember when posting**
Please ensure that your paragraphs are spaced properly; with a blank line separating them. This makes your work much easier to read.
• To do this, hit the “Enter” key twice at the end of each paragraph. OR
• Use the < br > code (without the spaces) twice at the end of EACH paragraph.

Please spell-check your work. It just distracts and discourages readers if your work contains a lot of spelling errors. Editors may correct one or two mistakes, but if there are many errors throughout the piece, we will not correct them. Spelling errors also take away from the quality of what might otherwise be a spectacular bit of writing.

Please try to make your work grammatically correct as well. This one is more difficult and we all make grammatical errors. If you are unsure of the grammar in your writing, there are many sites on the Internet to help you out, as well as, grammar books, teachers, English majors … (we will also do our best if you send us an email!).

I see the codes next to the box for my submission. What are they and how do I use them?
These are HTML codes (used for web files). They give specific attributes to text, spacing or bring in images. Codes for text need to be in pairs, surrounding the text you want to change. Examples are listed below…

• < b > Will bold your text. You use it like this: < b >word, sentence or paragraph < /b > (without spaces in brackets)
• < I > Will Italicize your text. You use it like this: < I > word, sentence or paragraph < /I > (without spaces in brackets)
• < u > Will underline the text. Use it like this: < u > word, sentence or paragraph < /u > (without spaces in brackets)
• < center > Will center the text. Use it like this: < center > word, sentence or paragraph < /center >
This cannot be in the middle of a sentence; it must be a word, phrase or paragraph. You can use this code to center a poem.

Codes not used for text:
• < img > Will source an image that is saved to your account. The proper code will be given when you save your image to your account. Please see the question below: Can I post an image with my story?
• < hr > Will place a horizontal line in your story. This is NOT the same as underlining; it is like the lines you see on this page.

Codes for spacing:
Spacing codes are not necessary with this program. Paragraph codes < p >< /p > are not recommended because they may cause your story to space out unevenly or strangely. Hitting your “Enter” key twice at the end of each paragraph should work, but if it does not you can use the Break code < br > twice.

I’ve posted my story but I don’t see it. What’s going on?
Stories are kept in a queue once they are submitted. The Editor will then read through the submission and post the story. This process can take a few days depending on how many submissions have been made. Please be patient; if you have submitted your story, it will be up soon. If your story is not posted, you will be sent an email outlining the reasons why.

Can I post images with my story?
Yes, our site is configured to allow you to post images within, or along with, your story.

Go to your “User Account Page” (you can get there by logging in and clicking on “Your Account”).
Click on “Manage Images”.
Click on “Upload New Image”.
The “Browse” button allows you to search through your folders for the image you want to upload. Once you have selected your image, click “Upload”.
If your file has been saved, you will see “File Uploaded Successfully” and you may return to “Manage Images”.

The image will be saved to your account. To see it, click on the filename and it will be displayed in a pop-up window. To delete the image, click “Delete” which is next to the filename.

You are also given the correct HTML code to enter in your text box when you post your story.

Please remember that images should not exceed 200 x 200 pixels. If you upload larger images, they will be resized by the Editor. If you need assistance or if you have further questions, please send an email to Eledhwen@warofthering.net.

Can I post my work here if it is up on another site?
Yes, you can post your work here as well as on any other website. There are no conflict of interest issues with us when you do this. We do not own or retain the rights to your work.

Who owns my work? Are there any copyright issues I should know about?
You own your own work. You retain all of the rights as the author.

However, there may be copyright issues with characters or names within your work that you need to be aware of. A great site to get you started on these issues is Chilling Effects (www.chillingeffects.org/fanfic). We highly recommend that you go over and read through the FAQs listed there.
