I am getting married in about 2 years, but need plenty of time to design and create a beautiful wedding gown! I need help with a design that is Elven, but not too much like any of the main character's gowns. And then I need to design a nice Elven outfit for the groom. Please can anyone give me suggestions?

Oh how exciting! Is it gonna be a winter or summer wedding?

December 5th,2007, 06:41 PM
Can't be starting with nervous already! lol Relax, you have a world of time and it will be great. I think you should try to find piccies of gowns you like, and post links to them here...say what you like about them and what you wish was different. Impossible to make any sort of design unless we know at least a little about your fancies! ;)

Any help appreciated!

Tell me what you like about either...shape of body, sleeves...fabric...etc.

Lessa
December 6th,2007, 10:55 AM
I think the fabric on the first one looks stunning and it drapes really well. The cloak is also lovely and would be useful after dark or if we get another summer like this year.

i like the cut of the Galadriel dress, but want a velvety fabric like the coronation gown. I also like how the coronation gown has the tighter sleeves until the elbow. I am heavy-set and would need a higher neckline than the dresses have, but not too much. I also like darker colors like reds and purples.

How do you like the shape of this one (http://www.alleycatscratch.com/lotr/Elf/Arwen/Requiem/Req_8569_TornLon_med.jpg)?

Nibinaraniel

ooo! Pretty!

Cuiel Rilwen
December 7th,2007, 09:23 AM
Shapes and models are the easy part, while finding the right fabric can be tricky. This model was used frequently and with many different fabrics, only slight modifications were made from gown to gown. The bodice can be modified and the neckline as well.

Nibinaraniel
December 7th,2007, 07:13 PM
ooo! Can i get a pattern anywhere?

Lessa
December 8th,2007, 03:55 PM
simplicity pattern 4940 is a place to start

Cuiel Rilwen
December 8th,2007, 06:36 PM
Alley Cat Scratch has a page with pattern suggestions (http://www.alleycatscratch.com/lotr/makingem/Patterns/Elves.htm#Arwen) and it also contains links to the patterns. Simplicity 4675 seems to be their choice for the Requiem Dress. If you look around in there they have loads of tips on how to make, change patterns, what fabrics to get and what might not work...it's a very resourceful place. :)

Try checking out http://www.rivendellbridal.com/index.html, they have some really beautiful dresses, but they're really expensive. Don't tell me wedding gowns are actually that expensive.

Lessa
December 10th,2007, 01:01 PM
yes wedding gowns can be that expensive especially if they are bespoke.

I love that frock as well Cuiel though for a wedding I'd probably go for a paler shade of purple

Cuiel Rilwen
December 10th,2007, 04:20 PM
I dunno..I'd rather look good in a darker color than bleak in a more...how to put it...normal wedding color. ;)

Nibinaraniel
December 10th,2007, 06:21 PM
I want abnormal wedding colors!

Cuiel Rilwen
December 10th,2007, 09:25 PM

Lessa
December 12th,2007, 12:20 PM
It's your wedding you can have your dress in whatever colour you prefer. Mine was a white edwardian style dress but then that is what I wanted and it suited me. I have never before or since looked prettier.

BTW you don't look evil at all

Nibinaraniel
December 12th,2007, 06:31 PM
Well, my camera just broke while I was trying to take a pic... dangit!

Elfdaughter

Nibinaraniel

Now to design a circlet???

Cuiel Rilwen
January 6th,2008, 12:32 PM
Sorry I've been away. The design looks fantastic. Why don't you make a copy of it and try to color it? I wonder if there is some link to circlet sites in Useful Sites.

I was not editing your message Nibi, I merely clicked the wrong icon.

Ithildiel Noldoran
January 6th,2008, 04:36 PM
Oh, that is just breathtaking!!:DSo gorgeous!!!:)

Hmmm...might I try colouring it for you-in Photoshop?:)veryhappy

Nibinaraniel
January 6th,2008, 09:57 PM
That would be wonderful, but i decided for it to be all white except for the trim and belt. Im not sure what kind of detailing it should have. Perhaps Celtic Knotwork?

Cuiel Rilwen
January 6th,2008, 11:23 PM
Oh celtic would be gorgeous...perhaps gold or bronze? It would be kinda Eowyn'ish. If you want to avoid that you could go for some color, not too bright I think tho.

Nibinaraniel
January 7th,2008, 05:18 AM
I thought of silver, and I think it would work...

Cuiel Rilwen
January 7th,2008, 09:17 AM
Looked at your piccie again, silver ofcourse. A dusty purple, turqoise or petrol would work well too. :)

Lessa
January 7th,2008, 02:43 PM
try for a matte silver rather than the very shiny sort

Nibinaraniel
January 7th,2008, 05:27 PM
Thankies... Its supposed to be medieval-style, so yeah...

Ithildiel Noldoran
January 7th,2008, 10:19 PM

Lessa
January 17th,2008, 10:53 AM
I found http://www.dwarvesong.com/crownscirclets.html just by typing circlets into the search engine. They have a wide range of prices. I'm sure someone in your local area would make something similar

Cuiel Rilwen
January 17th,2008, 01:15 PM
Or these guys http://www.cloakmaker.com/circlets/unique.html if you want something more elvish looking. Really you can find a lot by just googling. :)

That's a great site, Cuiel!! :hyper: I just love the stuff on it

I ran across this (http://www.gypsymoon.com/) site the other night. You might find some suitable accessories, Nibi...

Now to design a circlet???

Umm...might it be a good time to drop in the fact that I make circlets? And have in fact made them on commission before? And at half the price that those people sell them at. Plus, since I make them, you'd be guaranteed to get somethimg customized to you. I specialize in celtic wire weaving. I'll tell the colours I find to be most useful for my type of designs - matted silver for the actual weaving, with gold/brass wirewrap (the bits that hold it in place).

I have to say that I specialise in FINE wirework, as well. Give me a while, and I'll post up some of my pics from the early experiments. Just to give you an idea of exactly what it is that I do.

Ooooh I love that Gypsy Moon site! I never saw it before...expensive stuff but lots of inspiration to be found for sure!

Oh and ED we'd sure love to see your stuff! But please make a separate thread for it so it can be found easier later!

Lessa
February 3rd,2008, 07:34 PM
yes I like to see things made by independant craftsmen/women
