View Full Version : Saruman's fate changed!? *SPOILERS*

I just read this on TORN:

Roborambo writes: "TORN posted a link a little while ago to some Toy Biz figurines" [at Marvel.com - which have been removed, and presumably heads are rolling at Marvel -Tehanu]. "I noticed something that may suggest a pretty heavy spoiler for the TTT, at least to those of us who are "in the know" - the Eomer figurine has a "sword-attack action", Saruman a "staff-raising action", and ***Grima Wormtongue a "knife-slashing action"***. I remember hearing that three death scenes for Sharkey had been filmed - a throat-cutting at Orthanc, a throat-cutting in the Shire, and the spikey wheel. Maybe this is evidence that the first option was chosen after all?"

So it seems there's a possibility that Saruman's demise may be a bit closer to that of the books! Although we know there's no scouring, it's good to know that the "Wizard-ka-bob" might not come to pass after all. :)

(I also read somewhere that when Chris Lee went to do re-shoots he came with a petition in hand asking Jackson to change Saruman's death, so that further points to this)

I so hope you are right. Saruman's skewing really was going to 'spoil' the movie for me.

Plus, I really love Chris Lee as an actor, and he is 80 years old. I think he deserves the respectability of a finely done death scene. If PJ changes this from the skewing, I will give the scene a standing ovation when I see it the first time.

and doesn't seem too cheesy.

I was hoping his death would be a little dramatic, but I hope he stays true to the books.

It would be a better if Grima Wormtongue would kill Saruman in different way in Orthanc after he's been kicked one too many times... it wouldn't be as cheesy as him spontaneously 'falling off'.....

How about if he swan-dived after the Palantir? hehe ;)

Actually, I heard that in the spiky death he fell because Grima pushed him off....

I had thought that since Saruman does not go to the Shire in the movie that wormtongue will slit his throat up in orthanc after he kicks him for throwing the palantir.Saruman then falls from the tower onto one of his machines.I imagine that wormtongue gets arrowed to death at that point so their ends are like in the book, only it happens sooner and not in the Shire.

Thaks for the report, Orkybash!

Although I would love to see Saruman's death as in the book, I cannot see much hope for the scouring. So I guess Grima slitting his throat at a different point would be good enough, as long as its done tastefully, wouldn't want it to come off cheesy. ;)

I don't like the idea of him being pushed off the balcony of Orthanac by Worm.

I thought that Frodo and the rst could encounter Saruman and Wormtongue on their journey back home BEFORE the scouring would take place. Then his death could be just like the books except just outside the Shire. At least this way it would still be in The Return of the King where it belongs.

yeah, that would be best. I think it's important that Frodo's there for Saruman's death, anyway, since it shows how much Frodo's 'power' has grown, and how much power Saruman has lost. Just a neat little contrast that I hope makes it.

But if Saruman must be stabbed at Orthanc rather than the Shire, so be it. Just as long as he's not spiked!!!!!!!

I will do that too!

Oh and RingBearer, I had the same idea! Why would they come up with such a different way for him to die? Why not just keep it the same? I don't get it!
