Hey Everyone,
I was just thinking to myself lol (I can think occasionallyroflmao ) about what LOTR has meant to me.
Before I saw the film I had never read Tolkien's books so really didn't know anything about LOTR.
It made me realise how important loyalty and friendship are and the fact that if you have that friendship you can get through anything...no matter how tough:) I have just finished reading TTT and about to start on ROTK and I am really enjoying the books. Probably made it easier seeing FOTR first so that I can now relate to the characters in the books more:)
And hey...I've found this brilliant site to visit too :whoohoo:
That was quite a serious lil subject for me...don't always expect this from me....just ask Ilmarelol

Well i think LOTR has done a lot for me. The first time I even hear of the books was when I was assigned to do either them or another series(Children of the Earth). I decided to do LOTR becasue I thought they would probable be the more interesting series. So I got the books and the hobbit becasue someon told me to read that one too. After I had started like the first couple chapters I went and saw the movie becasuse it was still playing. I went with my friend who really into LOTR and my other friend who could of cared less. Well once I saw the film I was hooked. The film was sooo great. it was interesting and exciting and very emotional. i just loved it. I couldn't wait to go home and read the books. I read though the rest in about 2 weeks and couldn't wait till the next movie. Now i am soo into LOTR. I mean I love this site and i check for new LOTR sites all the time. i also tlak about LOTR with my other friend who got me into all this.I mean we can't wait to go see TTT. We already ahev the whole thing planned.
I also learned a lot form the boks. they taught me about friendship, quest, and the power to do what ever you put your mind to. Also I thought they were a very interesting read.

I made friends on here, for a start!
Not just posting on here - through WotR Eowyn and I met Elfdaughter for real, which is fantastic.
Through LotR I have discovered a whole world of internet message boards, not just LotR but others as well. I have learned how important backstory is - Tolkien created an entire world and knew everything about it, which is what makes LotR so good.
The movies have shown me a whole new level of film-making - the attention to detail and dedication is unparalled. When my friend launches her career as a director I'm sure this will prove useful!
But WotR is the main effect, definitely. I love you guys! :cuddles:

I'm going to have to agree with Aranel. and of course LotR also led to me knowing the name of loads of actors, answers to many pub quizzes (including correcting some of the questions) and had I not met Aranel I probably wouldn't still be at Uni ;)
oh it also got me involved in the Annals of Ea so thats good.

I began reading the books after acting in a high school production of The Hobbit. Since then I have discovered books that grow each time I read them. There's always something new to learn, even in passages I thought I had memorized. The Sil and Unfinished Tales brought even more detail to this world. And then came the movies. I discovered again the brilliance of these stories, and was able to introduce my family to this wonderful world. (although they still won't read the books, but I'll let them off the hook lol ) And I discovered a group of amazing actors (including a truly :flamer: one- the one and only holy mother of a hunk Viggo) And now I've met all you people here, and found that I am not alone in my obsession, or my love of a certain Ranger. So basically, for 30 of my 48 years, these books have amazed and delighted me, and I'm just happy that I can share this magnificent obsession with so many people. (And I get to be the smart alek in Dear Gandalf....always a fun thing! lol :gandalf: )

Personally, it revived my need to create art once more. I really enjoy creating works inspired by the books and charactors from the movie trilogy!

Well LotR has been part of my life for the most of its conscious part. The bloody thing got rooted in me so to say :) It is with me whereever I go, whatever I do and in most parts it does good. I am a more the zeal justifies the means person and that hasnt really changed, but... well maybe it makes me think now and then. Also it gave me the taste for the unnatural hero and the collective as not merely a supporting group of the main character, both unfortunately rare, if ever, met in other literature. Also it gave me a thing about the verbalizing feelings in the words of poems and songs altho I'm not and never was moved by poetry, it came some kind of natural in this book.
Just slap me the next time I go on ranting like this ok?

I'm with you, LE, I waited 31 years for these films, and now there's all this stuff ! It's great! Not to mention all the fun I have here with you people, all as crazy and loving every minute of it! lol
But like Mirkgirl, this thing is so much a part of me, its with me always, in everyday life, quotes come to mind, and have done since I first read the book.
I think it was Brian Sibley who said that once you've made the journey with Frodo you're never the same, and I think that sums it up perfectly :)

LOTR has done a lot-here's my story..........
My dad is a LOTR fan, and when I was about 8, so young and ignorant , my dad told me that they were making a movie of a book he had read, which he had told me a little about, and I was a bit interested. Well, I don't remember what I had thought about this, but I agreed to go when the movie came out, maybe cuz my dad and I share certain movie/book tastes. Anyway, from the min. the movie began, I was hooked. Totally enthralled. I started reading the books after that day, and I loved them. :loveyou: I quite soon became a Tolkien expert, maybe it's my photogenic memory. To make a long story short, I am now a proud LOTR fanfiction.net writer, I love Aragorn, and Aragorn+Arwen, and I have made my cousin a fan, she might be joining soon. ;) I am now pining for the EE's. LOTR has made me a sucker for drama, and a better writer and dreamer.

 LOTR has been one of the best things that has ever happened to me! It has introduced me to fellow THE LORD OF THE RINGS fans. I have always felt like I was the only woman who was a fan of the books. The books and the movies have helped me make new friends. I have also met a girl at school who is also a fan and we talk about the movies often. I enjoy getting on forums and discussing various topics on both the books and the movies. War of the Ring if one of my favorite sites! :whoohoo: :hooray:

Thanks for the welcome, IMD! And also thanks for going on my thread, it's always nice to meet A/A fans! Since I was sleepy :snooze: last night, I wanted to add some more things. For one, LOTR has made me even more of a Nature lover than ever before. I also appreciate colors more, and I am happier than ever before! veryhappy And I am meeting nice people who I would never expect to have conversations with. LOTR binds us together!

LOTR has changed my life in the most positive way imaginable. It's inspired me to start writing and it has made me the artist I'd always aspired to be! I now love sketching and appreciate other people's art more than ever.
I also learned to appreciate scenery and beauty even more, too. I think I relate to elves in some way or another, don't ask why! lol I just love them.
And yes, Hope o t Evenstar, I agree it binds the people who love it most together.
I always like to think I have my own little world and I think of Tolkien's as a real one. That's how special LOTR is for me; thanks for listening to my ramblings. ;)

No problem, Oninalle! People have listened to MY ramblings enough, and I only started posting yesterday! ;) But your right, it's makes me appreciate scenery all the more. I also agree with Rhianon, LOTR IS one of the best things to have happened to me! Rhianon, your name is very familar to me, though I thought it was spelt Rhiannon, to quote-"She was the maiden, the ever-crescent moon, the silver boat on a black sea, the springtime rose in bud." But thats in another book, and I'm rambling.

Well, I guess it has brought me here.....my home away from home. I first read them in the 70's and really hadn't given them much thought again until I heard of the movies. When I first saw FotR, I couldn't beleive how perfectly ME was brough to life. Now, of course, I am an obsessed fan and loving it. lol
