There are rumours on TORN that you will see the bottom half of an ent which while running is picking up a hobbit. I said rumour, isn't confirmed yet.

No one can, because no one knows exactly what they'll look like...

There's no way ents could wear armor! They don't have much need for it. Arrows don't scathe them, and once anyone has tried to take a few wacks at them with an axe, they're pretty much done for. :p The only thing that seriously damages them is fire, so unless PJ is planning to slap some fire proof gear on them, I don't think its an issue........ but then again you never know.

Ok I see....will we see some arrows in Treebeard! :)
Lady Ashley
October 1st,2002, 07:17 PM
*laugh* I'm sure we'll see some arrows flying at the Ents, and undoutably Treebeard too. But he'll just go moosh those archers on the heads before a second arrow could even be thought of, or a second axe wack, as Nessa pointed out.

I am concerned, the trailers don't show the Ents at all and yet they have a very big part to play. They find Merry and Pip. They overthrow Isengard and later they play a big part at Helm's Deep.
I will be deeply dissappointed if their part is played down in the new film.

yep, Treebeard is in the Two Towers - you get a very small glimpse of him in the trailor, but if you blink you miss it, and its not a full image, its kinda the roots.
Tar-Ancalimë
November 20th,2002, 03:59 AM
well ents are in the film i am pretty sure. becuase i think they will replace huorns at helms deep. oh yeah, and we see the entmoot i think.
btw, this does not go in i love, im moving it to the movie forum, k?

hoom.... now thats hasty, the hourns are interesting and shouldn't be left out. but pehaps i'm being hasty! PJ wont fail us, he's roots go deep, he understands many things, unlike the rest of this hasty impatiant bunch
p.s. do ents have roots? I'll have to look that one up!

Not sure if you've seen this, but in Jude Fisher's Visual Companion to TTT it's mentioned in the Battle of Helm's Deep description...
Minor Spoilers
..."the Uruk-hai attacked on all sides, flee to the entrance of the valley where they find their way blocked by a mighty forest of Ents and Huorns."
I wouldn't take that as a confirmation, but it's something to think about. ;)

I think they just want to keep what they look like a surprise! In fellowship, the balrog wasn't seen anywhere (unless it was in a really early trailer I missed), even though it was the CG creature everyone was looking forward to!
Also, this is a really, really dumb question, but when I read Two Towers I never really picked up on what the Huorns were, and how theye were different from the Ents... anyone care to enlighten me?
Ithielnor
November 20th,2002, 07:15 AM
this is a hard part to be sure about, because there isn't much to go on, but here's from the book itself
The Two Towers, part I, chap. IX, Flotsam and Jetsam
'Treebeard won't say much about them, but I think they are Ents that have become almost like trees, at least to look at. They stand here and there in the wood or under its eaves, silent, watching endlessly over the trees; but deep in the darkest dales there are hundereds and hundereds of them, I believe.
'There is a great power in them, and they seem able to wrap themselves in shadow: it is difficult to see them moving. But they do. They can move very quickly, if they are angry.
I hope this gives you the information you want.

We be fans just like yourself! lol
If all we have seen is Treebeard, then how would we possibly know what the Huorns might look like, or any of the other Ents for that matter. We get the pictures up and soon as we find them. And we defo did not make the movie! lol

Thanks for the info, Ithielnor. That's kinda what I was thinking, but I wasn't sure at all if it was right.

The picture with Merry and Pippin being held by Treebeard is from a Decipher card. Check out the Photo section . . Fatty has several versions including an extreme close up, and of course, the Decipher:

Guess what, everyone? I just read the TTT article in Time, and they said:
"[Isengard] is destroyed - spectacularly - by a brigade of towering, treelike creatures known as Ents."
So it's official - the Ents-destroying-Isengard scene (which to my knowledge has been in and out of the movie at various times) is in!

WEEEEE *happy time!*
Here's one... I was driving to grandmother's house today and noticed all these trees where people had cut the branches off and some new branches happily grew back in their place. So if an ent gets his arm cut off, does a new arm grow back?
It's a long way to grandmother's house... I had a lot of time to think.
Adunauriel
December 1st,2002, 11:07 PM
Intrigueing question........ I can't see why not, if a tree can do it. Then and Ent surely should be able to, but I could be wrong....;)
Orkybash
December 1st,2002, 11:36 PM
Well, it says that it's not easy to injure an Ent in the first place, since one axe blow won't do it and you won't get a chance to land a second one! lol
But yeah, I'd assume that ents can grow their limbs back.
Singe
December 1st,2002, 11:39 PM
doom... doom doom... do do do doom doom!
I'm honestly tending to think the opposite, because ents... aren't trees. They only look like trees because they've been around trees for so dernd long. They started life as giant-ish things, and then started to look more and more like trees since they were around them so much. They might get a little branch or something but I don't think their limb would grow back.
Now that I've had more time to ponder:rolleyes:

December 2nd,2002, 12:44 AM
Hmmmm... I guess I always assumed that the ents were always tree-like.
But, somehow I doubt even Tolkien knew the real answer, so whatever comes up is pure speculation. :)
Adunauriel
December 2nd,2002, 01:14 AM
True, we can only speculate there regenerative capabilities.....;) I like to think they could thou, cause there ultra cool...;)

December 3rd,2002, 12:49 PM
I think Ents would be able to grow back their limbs. They act just like a tree, but quicker. For example, when the ents stormed isengard, they destroyed rocks just like roots would do but way faster.

Where can I get this Treebeard toy?
There's a picture or two of Treebeard in 'The Lord Of The Rings: The Two Towers - Visual Companion'. There is also an interview with John Rhys Davies about providing Treebeard's voice in 'The Making of the Movie Trilogy'. There is probably something in the 'Creatures' guide as well.

I don't know if it's been posted here, but I heard it JR-D who does the voice of Treebeard... Is this true?;)

December 4th,2002, 07:55 PM
Yes, tis. To tell the truth, I was a bit surprised at how easily I could tell it was JR-D... not that it's a bad thing. I found the voice very endearing... except the pig-raping sound clip... *wonders some more*

Well, as for the Ent Moot (as www.lordoftherings.net spell it), it will VERY probably be in the movie, they have a little section on ents there, and they mention the Ent Moot as a gathering of Ents (I think).
I now only hope that they will get Entish right, just think about those slow voices, rising and dying away. :D

Actually, there was a special on the Wb, and you got to see the face and legs of an Ent. I found a picture on the internet, but it's not what they look like, and it's really bad imaging.
Quick question: Do you know who is going to be playing the voice of Treebeard? (Should I make this a poll?)
Illuvatar
December 12th,2002, 08:14 PM
Ahhh...tis John Rhys-Davies doing the most excellent voice of Treebeard.
And, I don't want to give it all away, but there defo is an Entmoot, with many Ents, and it's done VERY well!

December 12th,2002, 08:15 PM
Wow! I took my a while to figure it out. But yes, Rhys-Davies does play Treebeard. I can't wait for TTT to come out. My and like 15 of my friends are all going to see it... Yay!!! :whoohoo:

I've seen a fully ent, and I'm pleased.
First off, their skin is like bark. This could just be Treebeard, since all ents are different. Second, they have really long legs, which make up almost half their body.
Treebeard has a long, drooping mustache made of twigs, and what looks like the top of a stump at the top of his head.
I'll try and find a picture.
