View Full Version : Arwen at Helm's Deep: Confirmed
Arwen, Elven Princes
September 25th,2002, 09:42 PM
Yes, I'm 99.9% sure, the only reason I'm not 100% sure is because I just finished reading a briefing on the new trailer, http://www.tolkienonline.com/docs/7449.html ,
and it said it showed a shot of Arwen at Helm's Deep. But thoughs of you who don't don't want the kind lass to be there, well, she might not be there long. Also she might be helping Eowyn with the refugees. (I hope more than anything that the two will become good friends.) Now that might not be a bad thing...
Anyway, what do you think?

:( I hope Arwen isn't at Helm's Deep. I can understand them wanting to enhance her character and the love story between her and Arwen, but I think that they shouldn't change the story too drastically.

No! Help! George already ruined Stars Wars two with Hayden and the Stupid Love story! So why, PJ? Why ruin TTT with more mish-mash love?!? not that Love is a bad thing, it's actually very good. But more news: It didn't appear to the writer that Arwen was Fighting but like she was... *AEP looks thoughful.* Oh, well I think it said something like in another room of some sort... *Skips off to other wedsite.*

Looks like the person who seen the trailer made a mistake. The shot of Arwen is her at Rivendell wearing that hooded robe. So it looks like she won't be at Helm's Deep after all.

Quoted from SFX Magazine:
"No Warrior Arwen"
"At one time, Arwen was going to be a kick-*** warrior princess. No more. The decision to go back to the book was made before FoTR was released but at one point she was to be at Helms Deep with the Elves."
"Some of that stuff was shot," says Sibley. "I dont think we'll get any glimpses of that."
So there you go people, no Xena...sorry, Arwen at Helms Deep. :)

She was cool for about 3 minutes in FOTR when she escapes the Wraiths but come on! Look at it this way: Atlest there isn't an Aerosmith cameo with the band playing musical Orcs.

Bmp, you're probaly thinking about the previous trailer, she will be shown at Helm's Deep in the trailer that will come online 30 sep. So... She probaly will be in Helm's Deep and DO NOT compare LOTR With the last 2 SW movies, trust P.J.

I don't want her at Helm's Deep, but it might be funny seeing her and Eowyn meet!

Trust?? That's a big word. I don't know if you guys remember this...but they have shot a scene where Arwen rides into Helm's Deep. And helps fight. But they decided to cut them out...they didn't think there was reason or need for Arwen to be in Helm's Deep. I don't see one. I mean, what's the point in her being there anyways??? Afterall, Aragorn had just had a dream about her before he made for Helm's Deep. I do think there is a lot of Arwen in the story as it is...we don't need anymore. I think the viewers can easily enough follow the love story with the little amounts that are given in the movies. My parents were able to follow it fine...and so was my bro and sis...and none of them had read the books before the movies...well, I'm sure that my sis is the only one(aside from me) who's actually read the books, period.

Actually, there is a scene in TTT where you CAN see her. Yip, I've seen it too many times.... :p It's after Gandalf arrives with Eomer and the Eodred - as the Eodred attack the Urucks, if you look very, very carefully (I actually paused it and took it frame by frame after I spotted it the first time, just to be sure) in the background, you can just catch a glimpse of a female fighting. I compared it to the pictures of Arwen in her fighting dress (there are a few around on the intenet - promo shots), and it's the same dress.

Oh, wow! Nice job there, Elfdaughter! I never noticed that before! Thanks for posting that! And she is riding Asfaloth as well. I guess that could now be classed as a mistake, due to the fact that Arwen was never seen prior to battle. :)

Yeah, I think it was a scene they filmed, before they decided not to have Arwen there, and forgot to digitally edit her out.

In the extended version of TTT there is an interview with Peter Jackson where he discusses having Arwen at Helm's Deep. They even have some of the fight scenes with Arwen. However, PJ states that someone leaked the news about Arwen fighting at Helm's Deep to the press and the fans raised the hue and cry.
Stormcrow
October 20th,2005, 07:57 AM
Was it intentional to include the footage at the end? I somewhat doubt it, but was PJ aware that in one of the TTT scenes, Arwen could be seen fighting?
Elfdaughter
October 20th,2005, 12:08 PM
I think that was just a mistake in the editing process. She is only seen very briefly, and not really that clearly. I only saw a glimpse, and confimed it after watching that particular scene in slow motion, frame by frame.

Yeah, it must have been an error in production.

maybe it was kind of like what George Lucas did in Episode III with the tiny bit of Jar-Jar just to get in his last little dig at the Jar-Jar haters. personally, i thought Hayden was a nice addition to SW. yes, he's a terrible actor, but he's so hot!

Hmm...I don't think so, Eruanna! If it was, it would have been clearer that it was her, but I don't think PJ would be that cruel!

OH...I remember seeing her...I just didn't note the actual color of her robe...hmmm...just that it was dark. lol Sorry, I'm a bit behind...haven't been on in a while. :(

I would have liked to see her there, though. But when you think of it, she really had no point in being there.

They said she was there to deliver the Anduril, but I don't know what would have happened to her after she did.
Stormcrow
November 1st,2005, 07:49 AM
Hmm, perhaps it would have been good if she did deliver Anduril to Aragorn at that time. I am not sure. But I am pleased with the way it is. Arwen being there would have caused a fair amount of confusion perhaps...But I am happy that Aragorn recieved Anduril in ROTK.
