question how do you type letters with accents over them such as ś, also ī and the e's with the two dots over them. I've been trying to figure how to type them i've had little success.

I can tell you that!

For this mark ( é ) you just type option and "e" at the same time, then what ever letter you want the mark to be over (é, į, ķ, ó, ś)

For this mark ( ė ) you type option and "u", then the letter you want.

For this one ( ī ) you type option and "i", then the letter.

Got it?

The option key? Dosn't your keyboard have an option key? Mine has two, one on each side of the space bar, between the control and command keys.

Do you see it?

Ahh, I use the alt+#combo system

Ive always used the character map. either that or I copy the letter from someone else's post... there's always one hanging around somewhere!

ė... ah that works isil

This discussion was getting a bit off-topic in The Sindarin Thread, but lots of people seemed to want more info/discussion on the subject, so here's a new topic for you. :)

Tar-Ancalimė: lol ....... I knew about that character map; for some reason I was thinking that you meant some kind of map having to do with the alt-code -- which really makes no sense anyway! lol lol lol

Tar-Ancalimė
September 30th,2002, 05:28 AM

Isiltįri

Gotcha! Didn't know the alt-codes were listed there.......since I already have all the other ones memorized, I'll just learn the ones for the capital į and ś.

Thanks!

If you have Microsoft Word, you should also be able to find the character under the Insert ---> Symbol menu.

Anyway, if there are any Mac users here then at least you will know how to do it!

Isiltįri, thanks for the new thread, you are right, this would have really cluttered up my Sindarin thread!

I have a whole list of alt codes if you'd like me to post them here... Since i already posted it on TDoS... i'll wait 'till that's working again then copy and paste them here. It even has the capitalized versions

For Lynx,

Yes, if you haven't already gotten a system figured out, you can just use Microsoft Word. All you have to do is go Insert > Symbol. Then, under "(normal) text", you can find all the capitalized and small case vowels for Elvish.
Put down all the symbols on one page and save it, then you just have to copy (Ctrl + c) and then paste (Ctrl + v) whatever letter you want!
