There were explosions in the book, Saruman had discovered gunpowder.

That Mumak thing must be damn hugh, cause those riding it look really, really small.
Watching the trailer and seeing those Wargs, I had to crack up; oversized Guinea Pigs did come to mind. :( :( Not my fault. Some person on another forum dumped this image inside my head.
In slo mo, though, they look pretty villainous and wicked, so its made all the difference.

that pic of Eowyn-it's just how i imagined her in the book. except i thought they would all have blonder hair. I guess coz they've made the elves pretty much all blonde the had to make the Rohirrims' hair less blonde (if you see what i mean). Still, amazing pics. There isnt much point in me putting any of mine on coz i got them all from this site lol

Probably not! We think they aren't going to show Isengard being destroyed... and anyway, Treebeard doesn't exactly fight...WILL THE HOURNS FIGHT AT HELMS DEEP!!!!! no I don't think they are showing Huorns.

I WANNA KNOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! [/B][/QUOTE]

Fatty
October 6th,2002, 07:42 AM
The simple answer is we don't know. From what we do know we will not see the destruction of Isengard live. Certainly the aftermath and perhaps some flash backs. Personally I think it is a pity as the scene had great cinematic potential. THough who knows we have been thrown off before.

Huorns as Tar says, I doubt. None of the vendors have any products based on huorns so I doubt they made it...............

How about the orcs? The Huorns didn't bury dead elves and men. That was done by the survivors of Helm's Deep in a great mound. The Huorn's single-handedly destroyed most of Saruman's Orc army which was waiting outside of Helm's Deep. from The Two Towers, Helm's Deep
The land had changed. Where before the green dale had lain, its grassy slopes lapping the ever-mounting hills, there now a forest loomed. Great trees, bare and silent, stood, rank on rank, with tangled bough and hoary head; their twisted roots were buried in the long green grass. Darkness was under them. Between the Dike and the eaves of that nameless wood only two open furlongs lay. There now cowered the proud hosts of Saruman, in terror of the king and in terror of the trees. They streamed down from Helm's Gate until all above the Dike was empty of them, but below it they were packed like swarming flies. Vainly they crawled and clambered about the walls of the coomb. seeking to escape. Upon the east too sheer and stony was the valley's side; upon the left, from the west, their final doom approached...

...The hosts of Isengard roared, swaying this way and that, turning from fear to fear. Again the horn sounded from the tower. Down through the breach of the Dike charged the king's company. Down from the hills leaped Erkenbrand, lord of Westfold. Down leaped Shadowfax, like a deer that runs
surefooted in the mountains. The White Rider was upon them, and the terror of his coming filled the enemy with madness. The wild men fell on their faces before him. The Orcs reeled and screamed and cast aside both sword and spear. Like a black smoke driven by a mounting wind they fled. Wailing they
passed under the waiting shadow of the trees; and from that shadow none ever came again.

That Mumak. I thought that was the Oliphaunt for some reason. Looks like it. :) As you can see from the following quote... Mumak = Oliphant.from The Two Towers, Of Herbs and Strewed Rabbit
'Ware! Ware!' cried Damrod to his companion. 'May the Valar turn him aside! Mumak! Mumak!'

To his astonishment and terror, and lasting delight, Sam saw a vast shape crash out of the trees and come careering down the slope. Big as a house, much bigger than a house, it looked to him, a grey-clad moving hill. Fear and wonder, maybe, enlarged him in the hobbit's eyes, but the Mumak of Harad was indeed a beast of vast bulk, and the like of him does not walk now in Middle-earth; his kin that live still in latter days are but memories of his girth and majesty. On he came, straight towards the watchers, and then swerved aside in the nick of time, passing only a few yards away, rocking the ground beneath their feet: his great legs like trees, enormous sail-like ears spread out, long snout upraised like a huge serpent about to strike,. his small red eyes raging. His upturned hornlike tusks were bound with bands of gold and dripped with blood. His trappings of scarlet and gold flapped
about him in wild tatters. The ruins of what seemed a very war-tower lay upon his heaving back, smashed in his furious passage through the woods; and high upon his neck still desperately clung a tiny figure-the body of a mighty warrior, a giant among the Swertings.

Hee Hee It was pretty cool! :) I thought it was interesting that there's a clip in the trailer that shows a few Rohirrim moving among a carpet of dead bodies, arrows covering the ground, and you can tell they're on the bank of a shallow stretch of running water. Looks like the Crossings of the Isen and the aftermath of the battle fought there. Maybe they're looking for Theodred's body?

That does look like a man in the background! Weird.......

Regarding the Two Towers Poster: Its decent. At least they made Frodo seem of some importance, although Sam is ridiculously small and Merry and Pippin don't seem to be there at all! Arwen is MUCH too large, (but Legolas is nice and out of the way...... hee hee)

Lady Ashley
November 2nd,2002, 05:32 PM

Can you guys see this, if it doesn't work out, could a mod make the pic visible cuz it's really worth it. I'll post the link again so you can see it anyway. http://www.warofthering.net/movies/photos/visialcomttt/imagepages/image14.shtml

It is a shot of Gollum and I think it is just amazing. This must be the best piece of CGI I have ever seen. At first I didn't like Gollum as he was looking in the trailer but this is pure magic. I almost fainted when I saw it. I can't believe this, I could ramble on forever about this pic. I'm so freaking hyped about the movie that I am about to have a seizure. I really should stop now and put my head in the freezer. UNBELIEVABLE STUNNING PICTURE

Lady Ashley
November 4th,2002, 08:26 PM
I mnow! Gollum looks SO REAL! I can barely tell that that's not an actor, but a real person....Gosh, thumbs up to PJ's CG team!

CAN YOU BELIEVE THE TREEBEARD AND HOBBIT PIC??? ME LOVE TREEBEARD!!! He's too cool. He's gotta be one of the most interesting people of Middle-Earth.

But what's that Arwen pic about? That's her dress from the new Fellowship scene, leaving Rivendell. Unless she's trying to wear her clothes more than once, perhaps a SE pic got mixed it!

I was freaking out myself at these new pictures. *glares at clock that holds her prisoner in school for about two more hours* *can't wait to save pics at home*

Keverzwijn

The Gollum picture blew me away. notworthy I kept thinking it must be a puppet or something because each hair on the head is 3-dimensional. I know Gollum is supposed to CG but are we sure in some really close-up shots there isn't a real prosthesis or something? If this is CG, the technology bar has just been raised through the roof, ....heck, the ionosphere. notworthy

Gollum looks so real, so fantastic, that Frodo looks a little unreal.

And Treebeard--I am speechless. :whoohoo:

When I was looking at the pictures, I felt like was on a caffein high, I felt so jazzed. I am way too obsessed with this movie! I'm a soccer mom, for heaven's sake.

Totters off to have nice cup of cocoa and drool over these pictures some more.

o i'm dead upset. I was trying not to look at Treebeard pics and i've stumbled on them by mistake-AAAAARRRRRRRRRRGGGGHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I'm so annoyed-i should have thought more carefully. Anyway, I think he looks so cool. As for that pic of Theoden, i htink it's good except that i really dont think the messy hair was necessary. I mean he would have had servants to brush it and stuff. Other that that though

OMG. That's the first proper pic I've seen of Treebeard and it blew me away. And what can I say about the Gollum pic. I knew he looked great from the trailer but seeing this still pic in context with an actor is simply stunning

And need to cool down also *starts hyper inflating* lol

Well somone posted them on COE, scanned fromt he book which is out tomorrow. The Visual companion. I have ahd to remove all links to them as Houfton miffen are not too happy.

Personally I thought it would only make peopel want the book. But they thiink otherwise so fair enough.

I have soem more images from a differnt source goign up soon. These one swill ahve to be removed tonight I am afraid otherwise we might face legal action. Rather amusingly New Line were not concerned. Very odd situation.

A! Elbereth, I was going to go back to the picture to be able to explain it better, but of course the picture is now gone. I meant that Gollum just looked so vivid--Frodo seemed to be backlit in the scene and he looked less real than Gollum. Now memory has faded a little and I can't explain any better. Sorry.

Very Cool, out of the latest trailer, eh? I can't wait to see the Ents as well as Aragorn receiving Anduril.....I have a pic of him holding it somewhere....not the best quality. Anyone have more info on this? This is one key area that the films differ from the books. We all know that in the book, Strider gets Anduril in Rivendell before setting out with the fellowship; later in Lothlorien, he is given a bejeweled scabbard with Anduril in gems on its length. ;)

Okay, firstly, I think the Oliphaunt looks more like an elephant than what it's supposed to be. Isn't Oliophaunts supposed to walk on two feet or something like it?

Conderning the Lady Arwen's pic being too darn large, it's the oldest trick in showbiz, get the hottest chick's pic on the darn poster, and both guys and gals would flock just the see them...regardless on what the film focuses on actually...

Posters that surprisingly suck at making the charactors and background make sense, over-creative people without research... boo...

Well, I'm looking damn foward to the movie, and also I'm saving up for DVDs....

If you look closely at Frodo's hand it appears that he is holding the Ring. I don't think Faramir has twisted his hand at all . . I think that this is the start of Frodo's reaction to Faramir or anyone trying to take the Ring from him. I think this is an internal struggle and the Topps card is the final result. Faramir is witnessing this process, not physically instigating it. ;)

There are more Topps cards at TOrN. They also have the back commentary for the Possession of Frodo card:

That photo of Grima hints at the possible death of Saruman - and I still think it may include the spiked wheel. As anyone who has read the books knows, Wormtongue kills Saruman with a dagger at the very end of the tale. Therefore, I believe he will STILL do that in the film - and the dying Saruman will fall from the tower and land on the wheel.

Logical, no? :)

TheRingBearer
November 14th,2002, 07:37 PM
Yep that's what I think now as well. Now that it is difinite that Saruman will not die in the scouring, Grima should kill him on the tower but I am still against the spiked wheel to some extent.

I was pleased to see the cast list for Two Towers, finally . . had been trying to determine if Theodred would be listed or not. Had heard last summer that Theodred would be alive at the beginning of the TT movie but we would not see him. Than various images began popping up, including the Decipher one where people were speculating that the wounded man is Theodred.
Wounded . . Theodred? (http://images.auctionworks.com/hi/5/5056/lotrtwotowers-215.jpg)

I have a link to a Polish site that someone has told me that it confirms that the Decipher image is Theodred. I tried the translator but it didn't make too much sense. :p Can anyone here translate this?

Yeah I'm wondering about that "Theodred" photo. I thought it might be a bit young. But then in the photo where Grima walks in on an upset Eowyn, the body on the bed (whom I assume is the dead Theodred given the scene and the dialogue that supposedly goes with the scene) has no beard which i would assume would most unsual for a Rohorrim unless he was quite young.

TOrN has this picture of a Warg. First good picture I've seen of one:

That looks a lot different from all the other Warg shots we've seen, and the ones in the trailer defo don't look a cute and furry!!

A bear with a mohawk!! lol

i agree with Bess too. I dont like what they've done with the wargs. I mean i know they wanted them to be twisted versions of wolves, but IMO they now look more like hyenas and nothing at all like wolves whatsoever.

>>That looks a lot different from all the other Warg shots we've seen<<

Other than the toys, the EA TT game, and the trailer how many pictures of the Wargs have we seen? :p

I think it kind of looks like a Koala bear on drugs . .

November 19th,2002, 12:57 AM
roflmao Kalimac. But I have to say that Koala's aren't bears. [Sorry to correct you but its a personal pet hate ;) ] But you did get me thinking. It looks a bit more like a Wombat (though one on speed because wombats are pretty slow) And then I remembered I'd seen photos of Prehistoric wombats and from memory they look a bit like it. Unfortunately the best piccy I could find is this one (scroll down to photo) Diprotodon head reconstruction (http://www.archaeology.usyd.edu.au/research/cuddie/cuddie.html) or drawing of Diprotodon (http://www.lostkingdoms.com/facts/factsheet48.htm) Maybe if you cross the diprotodon with a thylacoleo (http://dsc.discovery.com/news/afp/20020729/brief3.html) you get a warg. Well hey if New Zealand is Middle-Earth then maybe the Wargs came from Australia lol [Though I prefer to think of Australia as Valinor given we're West over the (Tasman) Sea from Middle-Earth (New Zealand) lol ]

Kalimac
November 19th,2002, 03:41 AM
Oops, you're right they're not bears  . . guess I was thinking more of toys though than the 'real' thing . . but . . have a look . . could one of these be an altered Warg?

That koala pic is too adorable, though they can get really nasty and viscious when provoked. Maybe if we gave the koala a set of new fangs, dyed its hair and put it on steroids (its got the better shaped snout than the wombat) roflmao

That Marsupial Lion and the last one there look close, but they might have had one of these in mind since their intent was closer to a hyena.

Hi guys...in regards to the article in the French mag...is that a picture of Merry and Pippin and GANDALF???

I'm guessing you're right Lady Ashley. The cloak is too white for it to be Saruman, and I can't imagine them introducing anyone else in white.
Short-cut through the plot perhaps?
Hoom!

The photo of Merry and Pippin looking up at the white -robed wizard... on the Topps card it explains that they're telling Treebeard things and he picks them up saying he's taking them to the wizard - so I don't think the audience gets to see the face of the white-robed wizard, but if you've read the books you KNOW it would not be Saruman, since Treebeard hates him and his foul orcs.

True I think we all know that, but you never know how they have changed the story around and condenced it. As they evidently have here: i.e., Merry and Pippin meeting Gandalf in Fangorn (if that is indeed in the Forest as it looks) rather him riding up to them at Orthanc.
I assume they're just condensing the story a bit Lady Ashley.

p.s Very funny Ithielnor lol

True :) but if they stuck to each book it would go on for ever and ever and ever and .... Hey! I'd like that
Well I'm just glad its Peter Jackson doing it rather than some Hollywood wannabe who wants to condence 3 movies into a 90 min film or something. Now THAT would be both laughable and excruciatingly painful at the same time.

Lady Ashley
November 22nd,2002, 03:57 AM
*ick* Yeah, you're right Iar...goodness....

But goodNESS. Them meeting up with Gandalf!? I think my jaw will break off in the theater at this rate!

Kazren
November 22nd,2002, 04:13 AM
Well, don't forget, in the books, by the time the group from Edoras meets up with Merry & Pippin at Isengard, Gandalf had already spoken with them and this was his return trip.

Iarfirithwen
November 22nd,2002, 09:06 AM
Indeed, that what I said. In 'Flotsam and Jetsam' Merry and Pippin recount their time with the ents and their advance or Othanc etc. At a time when they were near the gate to Orthanc trying find somewhere to lie down after a long day :
"Suddenly a great horse came striding up, like a flash of silver .... I could see the riders face clearly .... I just sat up, staring, with my mouth open. ... 'Gandalf' I said at last... Did he say:m "Hullo Pippin! This is a pleasant surprise!"? No, indeed! He said: "Get up, you tom-fool of a Took! Where, in the name of wonder, in all this ruin in Treebeard? I want him. Quick!' " (p.217, TTT 1954/1981)

Okay it doesn't really worry me, they' have to take short-cuts through the screen play . I expect that. No biggy.
This was just to clarify to whatever I said in the earlier posts about skipping through the plot in the books.
Iar
;)

i'm fine with complicated. its making things needlesly complicated that gets me ****ed.

i can see the point of Treebeard plopping Merry and Pip before Gandalf as a way of saving time, but what i don't understand is why Treebeard and why at that point (right after their capture and before the attack on Isengard), it doesn't make much sense to me. can't they simply follow the timeline and have Merry and Pip act surprised and meet up with Aragorn and Co in the same scene?

anyway, i'll have to see how this plays onscreen to get me pacified.

Iarfirithwen
November 23rd,2002, 12:43 AM
Your brain is fine Lady A. You haven't said anything wrong.

Yeah Lady Eowyn, I think you're right it does seem hard to understand now and that will get better when we see it. You think it's strange now, just wait till you see the movie lol ... ok, seriously, I think its hard to see how things will pan out at this point. They've condensed that part in the story but maybe that matches up with other changes they have made that we don't know about.
I'll be happy aslong as they don't make major changes to the characters... that will make me very unhappy (or if Arwen takes any of Eowyn's role)

Hans_Schuder
November 24th,2002, 07:45 AM
I thought Kazren did a tidy job figuring this one out from the start, guessing Treebeard would bring them to a 'white' wizard before Gandalf's resurrection is revealed in the film thereby building suspense by leaving the impression they have been taken to Saruman.

Nothing definite, but I think that's a good bet.

Iarfirithwen
November 24th,2002, 12:00 PM
I'm guessing that like the book they will try to maintain that suspence (even if Gandalf's Resurrection is already known), but from the rumours so far, don't we find out about Gandalf vs Balrog right at the beginning? Assuming the rumours are correct and the track listing on the CD is in order.

Maybe it is a minature version of the present Treebeard? Would be interesting to know where the newspaper got this image, though since it is so different from the Decipher card that we've seen.

Faramir, the point is that the two photo's that you pointed out and the few images from the trailers are the only ones I've ever seen of Treebeard . . except this one. And, this one looks totally off center from the others.
