i do as well.....he doesn't want to see his daughter give her imortality up and therefore some people think he was kinda mean but i see his point...it's like watching your child kill themselves.

My mother and I talk about it. And she said that Elrond is just concern for his girl. She is only facing dead and alone. This is the way a Father or a mother think.

In the book, the ending of Arwen is very very sad.

I think that Elrond and Arwen both knew of their fate coz Arwen says (when Aragorn thought her name was Luthien):
"Yet her name is not mine. But maybe my doom will be not unlike hers."
So she must of known something. I think Elrond wouldn't have stopped her marrying for love coz he was a good father-but because he was a good father he didnt really want her to-he knew she would find the end hard (as he said to Aragorn).

elrond isn't depicted as trying to stop or being angry over arwen and aragorn's love for one another. And in the book, aragorn and arwen do not have such a in depth relationship, because J.R.R Tolkien was a bit parnoid about purity (crazy), and would not put in the slitest thing about love, because he really didn't think it was right, and as you can see throughout the books, Tolkien makes no in depth character relationships, if rosie and sam's relationship can even be counted as major in the books. It's more like Tolkien, writeing like this- " and same likes rosie, and they had a child "... history wise other than character wise, if any of u understand me ;)

well he was a very strict christian so i guess he just didnt approve. Personally i'm glad there's a bit more foundation to the relationships in the film. it was like you saw Arwen slightly at the bginning in the book and then right at the end she appears again and the first time i read it i thought "hang on who was that again?" I'm glad they've incorporated the Tale of A & A coz i think its great :)
i'm just not so keen on the Arwen fighting thing-and some of her lines.
