Is it just me, or is there something really sweet about Elijah as Frodo? His skin, in the movie, is poreless and he has an adorable, childlike face. He looks as though he came from a Botticelli painting.;)

July 28th,2002, 05:49 AM
Fortunately, it isnt just you. Its true. And just to keep the record straight - his face is very attractive haha:loveyou: Besides he is really sweet, and I'm sure everyone on this site would agree with me when I say that no one could do a better job at playing Frodo than Elijah Wood. He is truly gifted:loveyou:

And welcome Arwen Elf! I hope you enjoy yourself here, as the rest of us do

Yeah Elijah is definatly the best Frodo there is or could ever be. It should be interesting to see how he makes the character change throught the films.

August 11th,2002, 02:20 AM
I'd have to say Ditto to all! Elijah is the perfect Frodo. But he usually is perfect in any role he plays! He is either just a really good actor, or he is a sweet person in real life! (or it could be both!;))
In any case, he scored with me!

:smooch: :stomper: :smooch: :stomper: :loveyou: :loveyou: :loveyou:

Personally, Frodo is the ultimate LOTR protagonist.

Elijah did an absolutely fantastic job at portraying the heroic Hobbit.

As far as living in a Middle Earth fantasy, Frodo is the foremost loyal and true friend of every LOTR fan.

Just kidding around, Pil! lol I'll take you up on that sword fight, though! :battle: ;)

Well, he defiantely wore make-up, but I don't think he wore all that much as his skin usually looks like that.... I have another reason to think he didn't have too much heavy make-up but I don't think I shall bring it up here as it is a swoon threas and people might get upset if I pointed out a flaw..............

If you want to see THE sexiest picture of Elijah Wood, click on the link below. BUT BE WARNED: if you are not prepared to drool openly, cry out: 'OH MY GOD!" like a mental patient, or snap into a brainless coma because you cannot tear your eyes away from the screen, DO NOT OPEN LINK!

You've been warned. For bold onlookers, enjoy!

Rosie, I agree! I don't hate the picture, but he looks much better when he's just being his normal, slightly geeky self. :loveyou:

Frodo became my favorate character upon reading Rotk...... his dedication and bravery, his intellect and pacifism..... I adore him more than any other character I've read before.

well someone pointed out that there are no frodo threads! how shocking, after all, he is the main character, the ring bearer, the most gorgeous guy in ME, in other words, the most worthy of a thread worshipping him!

So I hereby start one!

Well, I do indeed love Frodo more than words express.....

but we do have Frodo threads, two or three of them, (and even a lonely Sam thread!), its just that they've been neglected and fallen to the second or third page. :(

Pil
October 6th,2002, 10:26 AM
Yeah...but even if you go searching...like i did...they're like...WAY....down there...it's nice to have a fresh thread! :)

http://always.ejwsites.net/images/broadway.jpg

On this site they commented on how his hair looks lighter...he's probably dyed it a bit...what's the verdict? I prefer lij with black/brown hair...it shows up the pale skin and blue eyes better...with blonder hair he looks more surferdude and less mysterious... :smooch:

I have an over-abundant love for Frodo :loveyou:

I like that picture you posted of Elijah, Pil. I think his hair looks great.

Ah... and angry Frodo, I've always wondering how Elijah was going to do it, him being so sweet and all, but that certainly answers my question ;)

These last 2 weeks I have been glued to my computer reading Frodo fics, and I can't seem to pry myself away. Its a permanent habit now... but there's no problem there. ;) lol

OOOOOOHHHHH!! the eyes are what get me! Elijah's big blue eyes, and orlando (real) big brown eyes......*sigh* when they chose Elijah for Frodo I knew right away that he was perfect. His acting talent is beyond words along with his looks :naughty:

by the way, loved the pics!

:elfqueen:

A! Elbereth
October 7th,2002, 02:46 AM
Tis was the eyes that got me at first, but now its more than that. Now that I have read the book so many times in such a small period of time I understand Frodo as if I've known him. It really is amazing. But his eyes are still one of the most beautiful things I have set my own eyes upon.

Firith Evenstar
October 9th,2002, 03:07 AM
mm. i knew at nine years of age i liked(err..loved) him. yes. i've been a fan that long. (is 18 now) and his eyes are just fabulous. i had eyes like those wheni was little, so i was like, 'hey..he has eyes like me...hey..he's cute too...i like him!" lol

he's so wonderful. and he's real ya know? i'm glad people are finally noticing him. then again.....now he gets more attention...from other girls...eep.::o

Well well well.... I care not to look at this picture when I can stare at Frodo pictures - *stars singing* - all day long until the sun goes down!!! The velvet shirt on the other hand, is quite blech, IMVHO. It looks to stuffy all buttoned up that way........ Had I been posing him it would have been the first thing to go (and probably wouldn't have been replaced). :naughty:

A certain elf princess would be the second...... :flamer:

Special Edition Spoilers:
Just read that there is a scene in which Aragorn is singing the Lay of Beren and Luthien in Elvish (!) and Frodo wakes up and inquires about it, proving that our darling learned hobbit does in fact speak Elvish! :loveyou: Looking forward to this one. ;)

I was going to note that too! Poor Elijah has to stand on a crate to look more masculine-ish.... for me just a glimpse at his nose would suffice... lol

Hey hey! What do you mean you do not find his shoes sexy?! They are VERY sexy, right Nessa? ;) Anything Elijah wears whether it be the velvet shirt to a tight surfer's suit :naughty: is sexxxxxxyyyy roflmao

WAY too many legolas fans..though from one frodo fan to another i have a question to ask you guys...my sister told me that elijah wood is gay..NOW before you jump up and scream how horribly injustice that is...or how wrong it is..let me tell you why i think she is wrong even though she was going to send me a picture of elijah and his "boyfriend" i told her i did not think it was true, and she went on about how orli was gay, so was dom, and "sam" (she didnt know his name was sean) well THEN i caught her saying .."YAH RIGHT sean is married and has a daughter who is going to be in the movies..." so..as you can see this can go both ways, she claims to have proof that i yet to see, but she obviusely did not know what she was talking about when it came to sean astin. ..What do you guys think about this? cause i for one have been getting alot of grief about this gay rumor from my friends who are legolas lovers ("at least my guy isnt GAY!" dont worry i defend elijah/frodo till the end in EVERY battle). True...or....False?

P.S. -Sorry if this is off topic, cause i know this is a FRODO's lover thread..and this is kinda about elij...

A! Elbereth
November 15th,2002, 03:13 AM
This has been asked so many times and the answer is NO! Elijah is not gay! Have you seen the pictures of him frenching his old girl friend and having a lovely ol' time with her behind? lol That is enough proof. People jump to conclusions so quick, I tell ya. Someone is really exaggerating to go as far as saying all the hobbits are gay. The only gay fellowship member is Ian Mckellen! The end. lol

Tar-Ancalimë
November 15th,2002, 05:02 AM
yes... hes not gay... :) which means, ladies... we have a chance! lol

ah thats ok... frodo, elij, same thing! lol mostly anyway

and yes! youre so right! waaaay too many leggy lovers  i ask you, what is so much greater than all the other chars about a guy who has few lines and a small, tiny role in the books... this verses the main character!!! lol again, i ask you.... ;)

A! Elbereth
November 15th,2002, 10:38 PM
I almost feel too 'non-original' for liking the main character, because most girls always fall for the main character. But because there are more Leggy and Aragorn fans I don't feel as stupid as in a regular, 'not as interesting' movie.

But there is still something...hmmm I can't explain - Frodo is awesome, and not because he is the main guy. He's just....mmmmmmm

roflmao

Togo Bleecker
November 15th,2002, 11:06 PM
well my big debate with the legolas fans is: i counted how many lines he has, it is roughly 27ish, well its a three hour long movie, he doesnt even have 10 lines per hour.. frodo EASILY has that. Therefore he is not a main character and should be eliminated...BUT then of course they are betting he has a bigger role in the next moive, which i suppose is true. The battle between frodo and blondie...elves and hobbits it could last a century.

Tar-Ancalimë
November 15th,2002, 11:10 PM
yes the thing about lines in the movie... MOST OF THEM ARE PJ'S!!!!!! he just looks fine, that's all!

A! Elbereth
November 15th,2002, 11:12 PM
well, a main character is usually in the number of 1-2 people... I would say that the second person depends on the movie/book. In all the book/movies Frodo is the main, but in ROTK Sam is definetly beside him in that category, but I haven't figured out the first two

thought, I daresay there are some who disagree with me here? But after all, this is a Frodo thread ;) lol

Togo Bleecker
November 15th,2002, 11:30 PM
yes i whole-heartily agree, not just one person can be a main character there are always people around him, and in this one...wow there are ALOT,, but i just dont think legolas is a big one, big as say aragorn, or gandalf

Frodo's Love
November 16th,2002, 08:00 AM
I also cannot explain what precisely makes Frodo seem so special to me, but it is definitely not his position as a main- character... He has got a certain power and kindness on him that a Legolas will never have...

Togo Bleecker
November 17th,2002, 06:15 PM
he has the whole fate of middle earth on his shoulders...something legolas doesnt have...

A! Elbereth
November 17th,2002, 10:30 PM
That is more of a bad thing than a good thing.... lol

But it is good because he was the only one who could endure through the quest with the ring around his neck.

if elves can die of a broken heart just imagine what a ring of power would do to them!! *-gasp-* anyway back on topic, umm yah frodo *-oddly is struggling to think of something to say about him-* you know i finally just realized *-if anything people will get a kick out of this -* that the whole reason frodo's clothes are better than say Sams is because Bilbos rich and the whole reaons bilbo's rich is because of Smaug the dragon and the dwarves. I just got done reading the hobbit for the first time (can ya tell?) but before hand i always thought it was kinda unfair that frodo's clothes were better than sam's..

Nessa
November 19th,2002, 03:28 AM
(As Sam's resident obsessee), I think his clothes are just great! If you mean Frodo's are higher quality, than I suppose that can be agreed upon, but somehow I don't think Sam would care about things like that.....

Frodo's Love, we know how you feel, girl! Keep posting here, I beg you! Are numbers are few! :)

I think we can all agree that we prefer Frodo to Legolas, which is probably why we're posting in the Frodo thread. ;) I personally like the charactor of Legolas both in the book and the movie and admire Orlando Bloom for a job well done. He just doesn't do anything for me.

El, back me up on the following, dear! Frodo in the ext. version: Mouth-wateringly beatiful! Absolutely most gorgeous new shot of him came in The Green Dragon when one of the older hobbits (possibly the Gaffer) told him to "Keep your nose out of trouble and no trouble will come to you." And he gives him this kind of wink and smile expression, with a slight raise of his glass.... *eep*

And Elijah in the extra features! OH MY.

Tar-Ancalimë

You said it Nessa! The Green Dragon scene and The Passing of the Elves are the best, but if you wanna smile, and not cry your eyes out from the Elves scene.... GREEN DRAGRON HERE WE COME!

Elijah was.... how can I say this.... PERFECT in the extras.... I loved it when he talked about how Ian shared a trailer with them, and that Elijah and Dom would blast their music in the morning, and then Elijah made an 'Ian impression' of his protesting! I nearly fell out of my chair laughing!

(my favorite though, is still when they talk about Elijah and his unusual sleeping habits - and that yawn! awwww :loveyou: )

frodo IMO... elijah is adorable but frodo just has that.... hobbitish look about him lol

Nessa

I care much more about Frodo, its the charactor that makes him worth while. :loveyou:

Elijah is adorable as well, and he provides a little bit of sexy that I can't really see in him wile he's playing Frodo........ but I find it difficult to swoon hardcore over a perfect stranger, unless its only for their looks. I feel like I know Frodo through and through, so I definately prefer him.

I absolutely appreciate Lij for bringing him across well. I can't wait to see what he's like in TTT.

Oh, I find Frodo so much more appealing than Elijah. Although Elijah is still awesome, Frodo has that innocence and wisdom (Elijah has it too, but in a different way) that you don't see anywhere else. Nessa explained it fairly well.

Wow !!! thank you, thank you very much fot that lovely picts !!! I've no DVD player nor the DVD movie, so I can't see those new scenes....
In the third one, I really looove the way he is laughing. (I don't know why, but It makes me laught the same way)

As you do, I prefer Frodo than the actor. Of course, E Wood is very good at playing the role (he has the exact look I think) but now the film is over, the actor is no more Frodo for me. The actor goes on it's way (playing other people), but Frodo remains.
In fact, as I think about that, I discover that it is the character Frodo that I love, not the actor...

It is getting a little messy.....

You mentioned liking the part in the DVD special features where the cast spoke about Elijah sleeping everywhere and anywhere at any time, didn't you, El? Did you see him asleep in that messy room with stuff piled everywhere? It was so cute, but I had to wonder where the heck he was!

I was hoping they'd show him asleep on the nose of that statue head at Amon Hen, I saw a cap of it once (I'm sure I posted it somewhere) and its the most adorable thing I've ever seen!

Hey ! I'me here !!!!!!

Do you really imagined that Frodo is alone ?
And why "poor him" ? Ok, ok, he went trhu dramatic events, having a hard time in the book. But the hard times lasted only the time to read the book (or to see a film). And we can say that if Tolkien has created some sadness for Frodo, we can also create hapiness fo him too. Who can prevent us to do that ?

We can change things and play a little game. I just begin : you want Frodo to be happy ? I'ts possible ! First, let's make him a present to show him that we are fond of his good nature. Here is mine present :

http://silhoue.free.fr/FrodoThings/roses.jpg

and second : let's see if he can smile again :

I have a shrine, although its not on my walls, its just a 200 page scrapbook as well as the 30 fan fiction stories I printed out that were all about him... (and most of them are as long as a novel, give or take 300 pages :o)

I also listen to the TTT and FOTR soundtrack every night before I go to bed... addictive, isn't it?

Sometimes when I wake up at night I have to turn my lamp on and turn it to the wall and look at Frodo's face on my poster, or else I won't fall asleep lol

I generally spend my evening time chasing every picture of Frodo I can find. Especially fan art, some on them are beautiful.
Have already about 500 pictures of him.

He really is sure a very good fellow !
When I come back from the office, I just have look at him (screen wallpaper and screensaver), and feel better.
Strange how he can have such a powerfull effect on people.

I think that between the actor and the role, there was a kind of alchemy that make the Frodo character come to life. Although that when I think about it, it's not the actor who have that effect, but the character. EJW is a perfect Frodo, but the footage ended, he is no Frodo anymore, (although he is handsome), he has now his own life, and the Frodo character has gained his own life too. I do'nt mean to shock people, I appreciate very much the performance of EJW, but that's the way I feel it : when it come to find which one has such effect on me, I find that's the character, not the actor.

Actually, Eoliah, I think thats the general opinion around here: People mostly seem to prefer the charactor greatly over the actor. I surely do, so you're not alone! ;) It only makes sense to be more attached to someone you know better, and thats Frodo. I adore Elijah, and he's extremely attractive to me, but I'm far less attached to him than dear Frodo.

Wow, I feel like quite a slacker while all of you have shrines and all. I guess mine must be in my head, as well. ;)

Nessa and Eoliah: perfectly said! :) I also prefer the character, not the actor. But I really appreciate Elijah's way of giving "life" to Frodo like he does it!

well I personally think that fictional characters are much more influential and atrractive than real life actors... you get to know the character so much better than you could ever know some one real... and the character is a lot moe reachable than the actor... in all cases, I prefer charcters over actors :)

I collect pics I think are really good... I have only a few of Frodo... I don't try to get every one I can find, generally I save a pic only if it strikes me in some particular way  oh well, thats not a bad thing, is it...;)

I think thats the mark of a talented actor Eoliah. While ppl sometimes have trouble separating two ( a character from an actor) I don't here. The Elijah I have seen in interviews is a different person to Frodo played by Elijah. And that s the way it should be. Look at a great actor like Cate Blancett all her character portrayals have been so completely different. She really can morph into any character in an amazing way ~ and I think thats the mark of trully talented actor. I think Elijah did an amazing job. And while it is the character of Frodo that we love from LOTR the Frodo in the films in heavily influenced by the actor and his (and PJ's) interpretation of the character from the books. A different actor would have produced a different Frodo. He might have done the same things but the expressions and nuances would have been very different and so would Frodo. (e.g., could you imagine Leonardo DiCaprio or Macauley Culkin as Frodo?)

Nessa, you're right. I quite like Elijah's new cut, and stubble. I think it makes him look a little older. Did anyone else watch the MTV TRL (http://www.warofthering.net/downloads/miscfootage.shtml) segment with Elijah and the Mariah Carey comment :elfeek: ~ it cracked me up.

A! Elbereth, do you mean a corrupted elf like an .. orc ?

roflmao

(maybe that was a little unkind.)

I don't mind Leonardo et al, but Elijah's Frodo is the Frodo I always imagined. So yes I like the way Elijah gave life to Frodo ... and I like his interpretation. I can't wait to see the changes in Frodo over the three films.

Unkind to whom, may I ask? ;) Leonardo, or the orc? Poor orc has to be compared to Leo... or to me?

Oh good ness not you. I was suggesting that I was being a little unkind to Leonardo for suggesting he looked like an orc (which I don't think he does...I was just playing with words ...what you said). Yes, of course.
I copy you these lines founded somewhere on the web (sorry, don't remember where) :

"Frodo is a real name from the Germanic tradition. Its Old English form was Fróda. Its obvious connection is with the old word ‘fród’ meaning etymologically ‘wise by experience’, but it had mythological connexions with legends of the Golden Age in the North ….. "

Elijah did extremely well. Now I know what Elijah's fellow actors, as well as PJ were talking about when they said it was hard to believe Elijah, at so young of an age could make such an impact. Wow. I was watching for eye expressions, because they keep saying you can tell what he's feeling through his eyes, and it's amazing that Elijah is only pretending to be Frodo, but he can make it seem real. His acting isn't fake its so real...

I also love Elijah playing Frodo, he does it wonderfully... and magical! He is absolutely cute by the way... but Frodo in the book is my favourite. His kindness, wiseness, his way to carry his burden... it's simply too much to sum up, even in those wonderful movies... So I go for book-Frodo with the looks Elijah gives to him :loveyou:

I like Frodo in the books the best. I like to read Frodo because there's more to find out. Frodo isn't made as wise in the movie, as he is in the book.

But I must say, that I love how he looks in the movie. So whenever I hear Frodo, I do always think of Movie!Frodo in a physical sense, but I always take his personalities in the book to heart.

I think I get what you mean. For me, when I read the book or parts of it now I always have the image of the movie characters in my head. I think that's why my mum was a little reluctant to see FOTR cause she had had the same image of the characters for years and didn't want them spoiled. Although E. Wood plays wonderfullu Frodo on the screen, I prefer the character in the book. P Jackson has done quite a good work, but tI don't agree with him for he way he emphazises the pains and the drama on the character. I find that in the book, Frodo is less victimized, having more strengh to struggle.
(for example : the trance scene when Frodo did almost give the ring to the nazul. The "Frodo of the book" would have never done such a thing !).

Indeed P. Jackson, has been tempted to make "his" point of wiew of the character, and the ROTK will probably surprize Frodo fans. I read on an interview (in a french mag) that he emphazis a lot the "black" side the ring had on Frodo. Making him almost dead or destructed. Even E. Wood admitted (in an interview) to be amazed and impressed the way the character appeared on the screen. That is to say that P. Jackson will show us a Frodo who had become the shadow of himself. And it's on that point that I DON'T AGREE AT ALL with Jackson. (sorry for the caps, I'm really angry about Jackson to distort so much some sides of the character. Look at what he did about Faramir...).

Yes, Frodo had paid a loud price for his quest, but in the book he managed to get an almost normal life anyway. Yet, he was changed, still suffering, but he wasn't transformed into a kind of "ghost" . :mecry: :mecry: :mecry:

So, Frodo of the book is for me the "real" one... but with the look of the character of the film, which reflect quite his inner beauty.

Tar-Ancalimë
January 12th,2003, 02:59 PM

i love the way frodo is in the book, and i love they way he is in the movies, i think the only thing i like better in the movies rather then in the books i adore is the relationship between sam and frodo, because peter jackson made it seem more of a loving friend and in the book they are always servant and master. i know thats how tolkien intended it to be and im not knocking it because i love the books i just like the way the movie made sam and frodo better.

January 14th,2003, 01:26 AM
I absolutely took Frodo's attempted smile as sweetness...... trying to encourage Gollum's attempt at goodness even through his disgust..... poor Frodo starts to squirm when he's tearing it. Blech.

I prefer the character of the books as well, PJ has made several directorial decisions that, however much sense they make, hurt how Frodo is percieved, imho. But I also think that Movie Frodo is a lot more than image.... Elijah's very real to me. I look into his eyes and see Frodo there, a character that I cherish, and I am thankful for that.

Frodo's smile at Gollom can simply move me to tears... even if it's sad... even if it shows his endless kindness and his pity on Gollum... mecry

:cuddles: Frodo :cuddles:

And Nessa, I agree with you about PJ's changes in the movie. Although I love the films, I would have liked to see more of Frodo's book-character, which has so much more aspects than are shown in the film. (okay, I know there is but restricted time to put all the scenes into a film) Frodo has got a main-part as the Ringbearer, if not THE main-part. And I don't doubt about Elijah's ability to play that also... it's amazing, but I never doubted for a minute as I saw the films that he IS Frodo, he points him out incredibly real on the screen.

Togo Bleecker
January 14th,2003, 12:56 PM
i must admit now after reading some other opinions that my opinion is a tad bit biased, because to the horror of true tolkien fans out there i saw the movie first so i never really got exposed to book frodo (i love we way we refer to them as book frodo and movie frodo) and my first veiw was of elijah. But hey the one thing i must say about seeing the movie first is it did what peter jackson hoped it would, got many people so wrapped up in the movies they went out and read the books and hey now im obsessed!!

A! Elbereth
January 14th,2003, 10:25 PM
Oh, I saw the movie first as well, but it didn't ruin anything for me. I find that whenever I read LOTR I have to try really hard to make Frodo look like Elijah. Even though I have seen the movie first, I still have this different picture in my head. The blue eyes are always there, though. ;) Reading LOTR a dozen times in 6 months is enough to pound the book image of Frodo into my head...

Movie Frodo seems to be more of a yummy character, while book Frodo tends to be the wise (not to mention, original ;)) character.

I always imagine Frodo writing in the Red book, and having papers lodged everywhere in the study. The cuffs of his sleeves blotted with smudges of ink, and his handwriting strong, yet delicate and unmistakable. I can think of no other way to describe how I think he would smell other than the smell of parchment, ink and pipeweed; all familiar and welcoming smells of Bag End, that I think he left behind when he went over the Sea.

Sorry, I just had to share my vision. ;)

Nessa
January 15th,2003, 12:55 AM
*wipes tears*

Wow, El, i literally got all bleary there....... About how he smells... I completely understand! Could I hug you?

Actually, I saw the movie first as well, and it took me some time to seperate the two Frodos, and I don't know if I've gotten it completely sorted in my head. I see Movie Frodo exactly as Book Frodo, just minus............ Argh, that not right! I mean to say the Frolijah to me is just Book Frodo with the Book Frodo qualities hidden underneath..... Ack! Thats as close to it as I can come right now.

My mental picture of Book Frodo is fairly close to Elijah's Fro, same eyes, hair, stature (except at the beginning when I see him with more pudge ;) ), but I can't help but make him look older.... even if physically speaking he would still be about equivalent to Elijah, its just how my mind works.

A! Elbereth
January 15th,2003, 03:25 AM

Well, yes with the hair and eyes etc it is the same, but when I get carried away in my reading, I realize I am not picturing movie Frodo... when I read slow it looks more like Elijah.

Whoa! I just saw the pictures that you mentioned, Elbereth, and I know it sounds stupid, but I went through a variety of emotions. In some pictures he's frightening, in others he's overwhelmingly sad, in others he lokks like a Christ-like martyr. By the way, that's how I imagine Book Frodo, as a martyr, sacrificing himself for the "common good". I think, in certain scenes, Elijah does well in conveying that persona. When I saw the picture of him almost giving up to the Naz-gul, I thought I saw the martyr of Middle Earth.mecry I don't know, catch me if I'm being too sappy.

you i know i find it so ironic we have no words to describe frodo (i agree...he is rather undescribable) but 17 pages of jabbering about him lol

I find it absolutely believable. You can never run out of things to say about Frodo. He's too versatile.

I got a nice TTT-Frodo poster yesterday, and my-my does it look lovely on my bedroom wall! lol
