My dad said FOTR was the movie that brought in the money for the other 2, so TTT should be alot better than FOTR because they have more $$$ to work with. Just think ahead 1 year to ROTK.....the number 1000 seems to pop into my head.

Since Gollum is entirely computer generated, that should account for the high count! How long before I can order the Extended DVD version of TTT???

TheRingBearer

Yeah, they did well with however many people they did have hut then of course they have to add fake cg ones. It wouldn't be much good otherwise lol it'd be a bit of a small army.

that would be sooo amusing. it'd be like 10 people or something!!! lol i saw this producyion of macbeth once and they had most of the actors doubling for other parts and the bit where the forest comes to macbeth they had the entire cast as soldiers and there were still only bout 10 people!!! roflmao

they invented a little computer system to make the huge crowds of orcs. each little figure had its own little system. so each one is unique!! isn't that amazing? this way it looks more real, and not all of the orcs are copying each others movements.

Yeah, its revolutionry

Really? I dunno...cuz Mulan is rather focused on the main character than big scenes...

TheRingBearer

there was one scene where there is a huge army and i think it was the first animated film to use that program or something....

Gowpon

Hmmm...my question is...how can human (assume that they are real actors) fight with so many CGI orckeys at the same time?:(

Bonos-Girl

thats what actors are for...they act!!! i always thought it'd be hard to act in front of the blue screen thing imagining the land was there!

The program used by Weta is called Massive, which was created in house by .... forgotten his name.

Its not like the Mulan one, I believe they used something like the program used in the first Jurassic Park, I don't think each sprite had a mind of its own, they were programed.

A friend of mine who is involved (its great being a NZ'er cause everyone here has a friend who was involved in the filming) with Weta, in the early days of the production. Were showing off Massive to some New Line executives, where two armies (orcs and elves/humans) faced off against each other, however there was a glitch in the programming. As the two armies approached each other close enough to begin their attack, the glitch started where each individual orc/human lost sight of their allies, believing that they were all alone against a whole army, each individual ran away.

Another story i heard was about lemmings but i won't go into that one.

I was sure that they used a thing so that each warrior behaved individually rather than being programmed but it was a few years back so i don't really know!

I dunno...but I think the tech nowadays makes big progress everyday, so massive could be a lot high teched than the movies before... Just think about Gollum!lol
