Indeed it is, Rune. That sounds like a nice place to live :)
The place I live is OK, but has some quite nasty areas around it, as well as some nice ones, but the particular area we live in is quite modern. ;)

I would give anything to live in England, Ireland, or Scotland!!! So beautiful and green! There are always places that are not good neighborhoods, no matter what state, country, or town you live in. Kent is suppose to be beautiful - I would love to have an English cottage, a horse and carriage, two llamas, and ONE of my favorite dogs, a Borzoi, or Irish Wolfhound. Dream on, Rune... veryhappy

Hey Rune- I'll join you in your "dreams"! I always wanted to live in Scotland (or the Shire) ;) :)

Rune of Mirkwood
April 21st,2003, 06:06 PM
Gosh, wouldn't that be something? I have met several people who want to live in England, Scotland, and/or Ireland...so many people like us love those countries, although I never have been nor likely to make it over. Fatty is so lucky, and others there too, who actually live there. I love bag pipes, too. There is just something about them... :)

You don't find a lot of Llamas in Kent or any other county in the UK for that matter.;)

Bag pipes... yeah, a wonderful instrument! A friend of mine went to Scotland last year for three weeks, and I was so extremely jealous, I admit it...lol
I've been twice to London, and I loved it also and want to go there again... (it's just far too expensive :p )

Rune of Mirkwood
April 21st,2003, 07:07 PM
Oh see, Frodo's Love? You've got to go to London (huge place I hear..so many little avenues/districts off of it.) We can still place ourselves whereever we want to, in our dreams, I guess...
Whenever I see New Zealand off the Appendixes on the DVD of Lord of the Rings, I just sit there and swoon....

Rune of Mirkwood
April 21st,2003, 07:09 PM
Lessa, I would have my two llamas imported with me to England, as I know they are not native to the Country. It was just a nice thought.. They aren't native to many countries, other than South America. Farms started across the U.S. in many places..so if dreams came true, I would take a couple with me.

Yeah, I feel like that when I see NZ too... It looks like an awesome country. I would love to go there! Rune, I'm sure you would love it here, especially in the countryside, it really is as beautiful as it looks, especially in Scotland, Ireland and Wales.
London is a lovely city, I enjoy going there, but I don't go there that often ;)

Frodo's Love
April 21st,2003, 07:24 PM

NZ...*swoons* I fear if I'd ever get there, I would not come back here again...lol

Rune of Mirkwood

You and I have much in common YayBoromir...I am a forest, water, mountain person. So I would love any of the countries we both admire and desire! Orlando Bloom and others are buying property there...and they admit, it has everything the Shire and England/Scotland/Wales has...makes me so jealous that others are able to travel and go to places we only dream of...

Lessa
April 21st,2003, 07:29 PM
Yes I know Rune. We do have some Llamas over here both in Zoos, wildlife parks and on farms bred for their wool. So you wouldn't have to import them and have the hassle of quarantine.
Boromir I live in the UK and in my 40 yrs I have been to LOndon only 3 or 4 times.
We do have some really beautiful countryside. I was in Scotland with my family last summer driving up to the very north coast. On the last leg of 100 miles most of the roads were single track, with passing places every 100yds, through the most amazing scenery. Well worth the 24 hours in total it took us to get there with an overnight stop I hasten to add.
It's a shame that a lot of the moorland within 5 miles of us is ablaze. Still in time it will grow back and healthier for it.

I always say when I am down, "I am packing my bags, and hopping a plane to New Zealand..." could be Scotland or England for that matter...but I always wonder to myself, "then what?" New Zealand is goregous, I can tell, but scary - islands are under earthquake attacks...but so are we in California!

My dad's side of the family is from Glasgow. My Grandmother recently got her citizenship for the US...

I used to wish that he would've decided to go back there when I was younger. I would've loved to live there. I don't think I'll ever be able to now.

We went there for a family gathering a few years ago and I had so much fun going on hikes through the rolling hills, crisp air blowing all around, bright green grass, bubbling brooks.... I really wish I could move there.

Ya, Celebbrian, Melrose can be a fun place to hang out. Lot's of things and people to see. You just learn to take the really freaky things in stride. Oh! and I was just in Sydney last year on vacation for two weeks. The east coast of Australia is beautiful! Did some hiking in the Blue Mountains, checked out the local beaches like Bondi and Manly, and even when to a Cricket match. And I'm such a goober for not taking the 5 day cruise to New Zealand for $350 USD that was advertised everywhere. Duh! Maybe next time. Btw, Illuvatar, where in So. Cal are you?

I'm from the north west of Spain from a small city near the sea called "A Coruña" it rains most of the time,it looks much more to Ireland than to the image that everyone has of Spain. We are said to be descendants of the celts, also is said that a celtic chief "Breogan" sailed from here to conquer Ireland.
We have also pipes as in Scotland and Ireland.

Well, sadly it closed down some time back.

First there was the dragon incident, then patronage began to fall off. You know how it is.

I reckon it was the Dragon thing that put them off. Hobbits can be sooo suspicious. mecry

Here in NE Ohio, it is not uncommon to stop for a red light, and have the person next to you keep going. I usually feel like there's a giant target painted on my car, with the number of people who seem to aim at me, running intersections, stop signs ("stop? who, me?" seems to be the standard question, right after "red lights don't apply to me")

And I don't mean nice, posh travel, I mean down and dirty, bumming rides from people, living off ten bucks a day, nothing but my filthy backpack and me...ahhhh :)....my friends think I'm crazy, but what's the point of going to another country if all you do is stay in an air conditioned hotel and never leave the pool side????!!!??? So, I am very pleased to meet all of you from overseas  , I hope I have the honor of visiting your countries someday!

Oh, by the way, I'm from california  (just south of the san francisco bay area to be exact), and right now it's beautiful–sunny, not too hot, calm, quiet (strange considering we live near a freeway...hmmm...maybe I should go check that out...;) )

Haha well if I had not looked for myself they wouldn't have known our ancestry, even tho it is 1 or 2 generations back in most cases, so for these things they are very laid back, but well in the end heritage is of not much use in the end, travelling is the real good thing, get to know the places where they came from and that sort of things.
So whereabouts do you live in the States? ohhh btw anyone here is in the Lothian area as well?

Whew!!! :elfeek: I just finished this whole thread and I can say that there are a lot of countries/heritages/cultures represented here. It's wonderful to see the differences, yet we all have one thing in common, our love for LotR :ring:

But I am the first on the thread from Palau, maybe the first on the site. There are approximately only 25,000 Palauans in the world. I am currently living in Houston, Texas. My dad joined the US Army when he was young and so I've lived all over the place, Palau, Guam, South Carolina, Hawaii, Arizona, California, and Germany. I've visited many places in Germany, the Netherlands, Italy, France, Costa Rica, Alaska and Japan. And, I want to visit England, Scotland, Ireland, Berlin, the continent of Africa, India, Indo, Australia and, of course, New Zealand.

Well here are some links to Palau. I miss it so much, especially my family and the beaches and the water. I'll be moving back in about 2 years. :whoohoo:

Enjoy! :)
Palau Visitors Authority (http://www.visit-palau.com/)
CIA World Fact Book on Palau (http://www.cia.gov/cia/publications/factbook/geos/ps.html)

Ooooohhhhh.....It looks BEAUTIFUL Eomer's Mistress!!! :elfeek:  Wish I could go all the places you've been to :(...I tried to convince my dad one day that we should move to NZ b/c it had really good flyfishing (he loves to fish ;) ) and I had heard him talk about it before...needless to say my plans didn't go over too well with the parental unit lol...they said that was only b/c I like Lotr and wanted to see where it was filmed...nooooo, I said, it would be preety anyways, even if the movies hadn't been made...but I don't think I convinced them ;)

Wow Eomer's Mistress. You've surely seen a lot of the world - I hope I'll see all those different countries too, one day.
I hope one day you'll see all the countries and places you've wanted to visit and return to the place where your heart has always been.

And I see you've visited my country (the Netherlands) as well. Did you like it there?

Eomer's Mistress
July 16th,2003, 07:31 PM
Thanks Striderfan, Steve, Bilbo & Hobbit for the nice responses. Palau is very beautiful and I wish everyone had the chance to see it, because it is even more beautiful in real life. veryhappy

The only negative thing for visitors is the cost of a plane ticket to get there. Just from the California it is about 1500-1800 roundtrip, maybe 1200 if you're lucky to find a good deal. But if you ever in your lifetime get a chance to go, please do and let me know, because I have so many family and friends there that it would make the trip even better.

The only thing about living and visiting so many places is that I can't stay put in one place. About every 3 - 4 years I get this itch to move. It's harder now that I have my daughter, but it's still always bugging me. So, I'm holding out until I move back to Palau.

Hobbit, I loved the Netherlands. :loveyou: We went for a class trip a long long time ago and it was during the tulip festival. I was a member of our school's drill team so, we were in the parade. The tulips were on every float and they were everywhere in so many colors. I mean the country is so beautiful and the people were so friendly. It was a totally awesome experience that I will never forget. I haven't been back since then, but I would love to take my daughter one of these days.

Yeah, you'd love it. I see you're from Hungary. I'd love to go there. I love traveling and especially on the other side of the world. How's the weather? Is it cold, hot, dry, humid?

Steve the Great
July 17th,2003, 01:53 PM
The climate of Hungary can be said continental (not too hot summers, not too cold winters, not too much rainfall, mostly sunny springs and autumns), so it's quite pleasant, I think. But recently the weather is terribly hot and there's a long droughty period too... :(

And here are some links, if you all would be interested in Hungary:

Steve, hey the wether sounds inviting. I know I can handle the heat. I checked out the links and I have to say WOW!! I would love to visit your country. Just the history alone could keep me there indefinitely. I love that Europe has so many very old places, buildings, stories, etc. which is what interests me the most. Hopefully, one day I'll be able to make my way over there. ;)

Ereinion, it is pretty cool living on an island and in Palau's case over 300 islands. :) If you ever get the chance, I invite you to go and don't forget to look me up.

Perhaps...at least with tornados you have a BIT of a warning (well, you know if a storm's brewing or there's going to be bad weather and the like) but living in earthquake heaven is not a very comforting thought...no idea when the "Big One" (as we San Franciscans call it ;) ) will come...it's a bit freaky....

Es un problema muy comun, si, pero tampoco es una constante, en mi país por ejemplo se ha trabajado muy duro para erradicarlo y de algun modo se ha logrado....

verymad "Pig Latin?? First Latin is a death language pendejo , many years ago, spanish comes from latin, that´s why we are called "latins" but so do the french, portuguesse and Italians are latins
And all you need to have really a better knowledge!! Los Suramericanos no somos unos "Pigs", ni aqui to es droga o guerrilla verymad verymad

Creo que has entendido mal, Crinblanca. "Pig Latin" no es un insulto a los latinos, sino un lenguaje inventado, algo así como una especie de juego. Y no puedes insultar a alguien por no conocer el español. Por última vez, lo de las drogas y la guerrilla era en broma... yo también soy latino.

Por cierto, no debes usar esa clase de lenguaje ofensivo (sabes a que me refiero) en este lugar.

Pig latin is a childhood "game" where you take off the first consonantal group from a word and add it to the end of the word, followed by "ay."

Therefore, the sentence "You are from Medellin" becomes "ouyay are omfray Edellinmay."

Kids use it to confuse each other. It is in no way related to Latin, and especially not Spanish. lol

Oh I get it, that's funny, when I was a kid I used to make up dialects too, but since they're in spanish is hard to explain ;)

Crinblanca you should take it a little easy, nobody is treating us disrespectfuly, the language you're using is unproper and way too ofensive, don't judge people because of the things they say without you even knowing what they mean...
