View Full Version : How-To: Reporting Posts

WarRingers,

I'm posting this to remind everyone about the "Report this post to a moderator" feature. Probably most of us have seen it at the bottom of a post but have never used it. It's purpose is to allow someone to assist the moderators by reporting inappropriate posts. This includes any post that can be deemed rude, abusive, seriously off-topic, and even posts that contain pure advertising spam. It would really be a great help if all the members of WOTR took a moment to use this function when a post just doesn't seem proper. The moderators will eventually get them but this process could be alot more efficient if we all work together.

It's easy to use ... for example ...

You spy a rude post made in the "Silmarillion" forum. All you need to do is click on "Report this post to a moderator" just below and to the right of the post in question. Once clicked, you will be taken to a new page displaying an entry field where you may leave a short message describing the reason for your report. After putting in a few words, click on the "Send Report Now!" button and you're done! The moderators will then evaluate the post and determine what actions, if any, need to be taken. Your reporting is quite confidential and will really benefit the entire community!

Thanks!

i think that the only reason that it hardly ever (if ever) gets used is coz there doesn't seem to be much of this kind of material on the forums and therefore there is nothing to report.

True, BG, but they should know about it. We are a growing community, and as we grow, we'll probably have more of a problem with this. :(

It's actually really helpful when people can tell u about offensive posts etc. Mods attempt to grow eighteen eyes in order to see everything but unfortunately it's not happening...lol

Actually, I believe there was an incident where a member of the boards was banned, re-registered under a different name, and started trolling. I saw it, but didn't know about the "report this post" thing. SO now I know!

But yeah, these boards are really tame compared to most places I hang out . That's why I like them so much!

Even though I've only been here for about two days, but I still didn't find anything inappropriate or so...this is one of the "clean" boards online *two thumbs up*

I have a question. Just out of sheer curiousity (nothing bad to report) What if the Mod is the one who made the offensive post? Who do I report to then? Never seen any WotR mods do that. Like I said, just idle curiousity.

Oh ... that would be something to take up with one of the site administrators. I don't think that will be a concern but it's possible I guess. You know how to contact a site admin.?

Lasgalen ...

Yip ... a PM to Illuvatar would do it! But, there are other persons you could contact as well. If you go to the main forum page and look up at the top, you will see an area that says "Mae Govannen Lasgalen ... blah blah blah". Anyway a few lines under, you will see a link entitled "Forum Leaders". Click on it and you will see the entire management crew (including all admins.) listed. Very easy to PM anyone from this page ...
