Do you like Star wars? I like Star wars very much. It is very cool. But I no so like the Star wars 2 - Attack of the Clones. The love part is a bit fake.

Not like Aragorn and Arwen. So real so sweet.

The old star wars is good!

I love Star Wars! I'm like a walking SW encyclopaedia! Quite sad really.

I like the new one (number 2) but the best is definatly the empire strikes back althought the best lightsaber fight is in the phantom menace

Darth Homer
October 10th,2002, 07:25 PM
The Empire Stirkes Back is by far my favorite. But, I love all of them.

Here are my rankings of the films:

1. The Empire Strikes Back
2. Attack of the Clones
3. The Phantom Menace
4. A New Hope
5. Return of the Jedi

Beacuse they are blinded by the promise of money!

I really enjoy Star Wars alot. My favorite SW film is Episode V.

Although I'm in agreement the first two prequels are okay, I still like them just fine. :)

October 11th,2002, 03:45 AM
actually lord, its episode IV a new hope, not IIII. a new hope is my favorite.

Lynx
October 11th,2002, 04:14 AM
the original trilogy was the best, its hard to pick which one I liked out of those the best, but I voted for Return of the Jedi because I like the Jabba the Hut scenes, they were awesome.

But I have to say that the best fight between goodguys and badguys was between yoda and count dukoo that was awesome. The only good part in attack of the clones, imo.

I love them all to death... I am not so much a Star Wars freak as a LotR freak, but I still love ST.

I voted for the first one (in my book, the first one means the first one made, not chronologically) because when I saw it (I was really young) it totally blew me away. I loved it and I have been faithful to the series ever since... tho you will never hear me say "The last two ST movies sucked" I might add that they weren't quite as good.

Aotc and Tesb are my faves.:)

Tar-Ancalimė
October 13th,2002, 04:27 PM
harrison ford... oh man hes the best isnt he?

hmm... someone who likes AotC... cool  i guess that's nice to know there are people out there who like it the best... deserves some recognition...

you know what makes me mad? people who saw TPM and then are like "Star Wars sucks!!!" because ST is not all about TPM... *sighs* I just had a loooooooong conversation with someone about that

oh well... its their own loss...

Episode 3 should be great to wrap it all up and to provide the needed link between the two generations of films. I can't wait to see Anakin fall to the dark side.

Lord Raistlin

I can't wait to see Anakin fall to the dark side too. But I want to see more on Obi-wan. He is so cute!

I enjoyed both aotc and phantom menace, although preferred aotc. I personally didn't see anything wrong with them, but then i'm not a huge freak (not meant to offend anyone) on the other 3, although i enjoyed them 2. my fav characters are obi wan (Ewan) and Hans Solo:drool:

Lord Raistlin

my fav is boba fett, obi-wan and yoda!

Ronin
October 15th,2002, 11:32 AM
love the SW franchise...with ESB being one of my favorite movies of all time, but honestly, the prequels are nothign but disappointing and seemingly nothing but money makers. i'm thankful, at least, that the direction is slightly changing to the darker side of the universe...and just hoping that in the 3rd prequel, its as dark and terrifying as it should be.

Bonos-Girl
October 15th,2002, 01:17 PM
i couldn't have put it better myself ronin....to put it bluntly the prequels are **** to say the least.

October 15th,2002, 06:36 PM
Peter Jackson is still a small town NZ boy at heart....doing what he loves to do....and i get the distinct impression hes rather bemused by all of this.....but hes a lovely guy...i have in fact met him......many years ago for about 5 mins lol lol long before he was famous...
and i think that the Star Wars prequels have proven one point beyond doubt......you can have the best effects in the world and the highest of production values.....but if you dont have heart, you dont have a movie....
:catz:

Lord Raistlin
October 15th,2002, 07:16 PM
I a,m waitting for Elrond's autograph!

Ronin
October 15th,2002, 07:49 PM
utterly, without thepassion and love for the material u're trying to relate from page to screen...how could one ever succeed? and i think PJ et al proves that time and time again. and the fact that the most unassuming guys typically handle all the sudden attention and fame without blinking an eye...but with a slight smirk.

Catz
October 15th,2002, 11:44 PM
it also i think illustrates the dangers of homogenising material for the mass market....PJ makes no bones about the fact that his movies are HIS ME and HIS interpretation of the story....and they have that unified vision very strongly thru them.....whereas the Star Wars prequels seem made by committee....with a bit of everything in them to appeal to the widest possible audience..
i think the courage to make your OWN vision is a part of being a great director.....perhaps Lucas needs to be a bit more hungry? a bit more desperate to make HIS movie....which of course he isnt any more....
Hopefully the last one will be the charm...theres ample opportunity for drama....as to whether or not it will eventuate, or just be watered down for the masses is hard to say
:catz:

Ronin
October 16th,2002, 01:38 PM
well, personally, Lucas' hunger for his own movie seemed to falter at Return of the Jedi...the Ewoks are still one of the most disgustingly cute things ever created by man ;)
i think there's a great deal of hope (a new hope...haha, bad pun) for the 3rd prequel...that James Earl Jones will be revisting the Vader voice hopefully cements that a little bit. tho u'd like to think that Lucas doesn't want his voice for the cheap fanboy thrill right at the end of the movie...obviously, it will be that...but hopefully something much more resonant and threatening. tons of potential for a dark, hopeless movie...if only Lucas can give us what ANH and ESB were and still are.

a lot of that courage is just that...courage to portray ur own vision, inspite of what the populous thinks it wants and what suits thinks the populous wants. that is, truly, what makes PJ's vision of M-E so fantastic...his and Fran's interpretation and no bones made about it. very, very few filmmakers like that and even fewer have the voice that so many others have.

Catz
October 16th,2002, 03:37 PM
mmm its courage indeed.....especially in these days of finances ruling the creative process....tho i guess thats the thing......that you do NOT allow it to rule that process....
its such a pity that now he has the chance to make movies with modern tech, that it appears that Lucas has already made his best....and i really wish i didnt keep thinking that the production of these sequels had more to do with cash flow, thn having a story to tell....
i guess if you have to fight for your story, youre that much more committed to it.....if it comes too easy, then it all to quickly degenerates into self indulgence....at least, thats how it looks to me...
:catz:

Bonos-Girl
October 17th,2002, 01:24 PM
i always wanted one of those ewok flying motorbike things.....i still do!! lol

Ronin
October 17th,2002, 06:18 PM
does that mean u haven't yet Bonos? :o

well, i think its both...Lucas gets the chance to tell the story that he's been itching to tell for 30 years and he gets to make a whole heckuvalotta cash, along with awing his own kids. nice to have that...but not like he's benefiting the SW universe. one can hope that he redeems himself by the 3rd prequel and abandon everything to simply tell the story...but sad to say, not sure it'll ever happen. he likes the dark forces way too much ;)

Catz
October 17th,2002, 10:12 PM
Ahhhh so the rumours are true!!!:elfeek: ;)
George Lucas is in fact the dark lord Darth Braindead!!!:o....luring the innocent to the dark side by boring them into insensibility first.....

October 18th,2002, 04:55 AM
yeah....well, i was, up till the "prequels"...and i know a lot of people whove turned off the franchise now, or who reserve their affection for the original trilogy....
which is quite sad.....they could have been great, they are adequate...mostly......heheheh
:catz:

Tar-Ancalimė
October 18th,2002, 04:59 AM
well fine then! :battle: deserter!!

KIDDING! just cause I love SW... yes even the prequels... doesn't mean i will hate you for not loving them... i know a lot of those people too, but most of my friends love them as much if not more than I do. Yes even the prequels. I remember when AoTC came out, there were thirteen of us... I didn't know everyone but that didn't matter... we went to the midnight showing... then again at 6 pm... then again at 11 pm! in the same day! it was the funnest day... and I am consistently loyal... even tho I think the prequels are not as good, I still think they are good.

Ronin
October 18th,2002, 04:57 PM
and now the polar opposite of fanism...adequate, such a "nice" for the context ;)
personally, the prequels don't diminish what the original trilogy gave and still give fans...yet only a reminder to what is a sad continuance and degredation from Return of the Jedi. hope for the third, but not much...Bad Lucas, Bad! pfbbt

Ronin
October 18th,2002, 05:01 PM
i saw FOTR thrice on opening day...now that was the coolest day i've ever spent at the movies
i don't really think its a question of loyalty to SW. if anything, one would've hoped that Lucas had some loyalty to the fans so as give us the space opera saga that we had all been dreaming about...instead of succumbing to big money. the SW movies aren't just movies...and u can't say AOTC is just a good movie, its judged on whether or not it can hold up to the original trilogy...in no way can it. AOTC and TPM are cultural pieces that will fade away quicker than the film they are printed on.

Catz
October 18th,2002, 07:07 PM
lol hes such a fanboylol
i have to agree that Lucas showed a blatent disregard for the fans that had made his prequels possible...and yeah loyalty is one thing...but flogging a dead horse is another....Star Wars will still be being loved and wached when its 50 years old.....pity you cant say the same for the prequels...tho the last one may be better......im not holding my breath, but ill wait and see...
:catz:

Tar-Ancalimė
October 18th,2002, 08:16 PM
actually Ronin, I can say AotC "is just a good movie" w/out comparing it to the originals... and I do :)

I was joking about the loyalty thing... I'm sorry my jokes are so stupid lol

Catz
October 18th,2002, 09:44 PM
he has a point tho.....its hard to take AOTC on its merits(and i have to be honest here and admit that i dont think it has that many lol ) when there is the original to compare it to, and i cant help but compare them and im sure many others do too....and they (the prequels)come up so damn hollow and souless in that comparison....but yeah, its a matter of taste and personal bent (and while i may not be entirely bent i definitely have a skewed outlook lol)

Yeah, i would definitely agree with that. The original trilogy is fantastic.... but AoTC and TPM were ....adequate at best. I never watch the video of TPM any more... just can't bear it... especially Jar-Jar Binks.
Oh... by the way, sweetie.... you double posted..... naughty fanboy!!!!:fanboy::nono:..careful in future.. or you shall be severely chastised....:elfeek: .. thanks hon.:wicked: :cuddles:

ahhh well i was gonna deal with that (and it was done when i wasnt avaliable)....but ill leave it now.....id hate to see all those smilies go to waste:rolleyes: lol
and the only chastising in here will be done by moi, if and when i feel the need.....heheheh dontcha looove power?? lol lol
just money talking with the franchise i feel...but then its amazing.....find the right trigger and you can get just about anyone to betray anything.....you just need to find the key that pushes their buttons....and i think in this case Lucas took the dosh over the story, mores the pity....
:catz:

Ilmarė
October 18th,2002, 10:12 PM
Hey... no problem Catz... it was my pleasure to help out a bit. .... and yeah, it would be a shame to see the smilies go... they're cute.
Us mods keep a watchful eye out across each others threads and forums.... chastisement is a perk of the job... especially with fan boys;) lol

October 18th,2002, 10:21 PM
well, its my job to look out across the forums actually lol and thanks, but i think i can handle it:rolleyes: lol you guys have your hands full with the armies after all;) lol
anyway....ill be interested to see if the final prequel can manage to salvage some sort of legitimacy....it should be dark.....the question is.......will it be dark enough? will Lucas have the courage to go all out? or will it be toned down for the mass market?....we shall see.....
:catz:

Ronin
October 19th,2002, 01:54 PM
i swear...will i ever get away from the whipping!!?? :elfeek: :naughty:

well, of course u can Tar...doesn't mean its right tho ;) nah...but i really can't think of AOTC nor TPM as movies simply by themselves. they are prequels to one of the greatest series of movies created...so they should be judged...and so they have fallen because they cannot compare on iota.

tho i fully admit i am a fanboy lol :gofatty:

and completely agree, just hope the 3rd prequel is as dark as it should be...i mean, the Empire is taking over...everything falls apart...Padme should die (should, but it won't happen) and hope is all but lost. i just fear that what was done to tone down the destruction of the Tusken village will be done with the 3rd movie...hmmmm....inquiring minds want to know  ;)

Belaqua

I just don't think they captured the same feel with the new films. I saw ROTJ first, so for me, that will always be the best

Ronin
October 19th,2002, 05:33 PM
then u should've seen ESB first...by far the best, in my very humble opinion of course ;)

Belaqua
October 19th,2002, 05:52 PM
esb is v.good and i really do like it, but rotj i just love. After i first saw it i watched it over and over for a week afterwards. Just realised that i really am quite sad! I seriously don't think that anyone can beat me in SW fandom here. Someone said something bout the prequels being souless and hollow. Word to whoever said it. Even Qui Gon croaking seemed... off. And Jar Jar, only one word for that...ACK! Oh my God, you killed Star Wars! Ahem

Catz
October 19th,2002, 06:37 PM
dya really think theyd be daft enough not to kill her character off?? after all its a big part of the set up to the original movies....one of the big motivational pushes....
then again....this is the man who created Jar Jar....Lucas...upon youre own head be it!!!
:catz:

Belaqua
October 19th,2002, 06:42 PM
I take it we're talking about the log here? Nah, they won't kill her off, wouldn't be surprised if they had her going off to some remote corner of the galaxy and not dying when the twins were young like Leia said. Does anyone read the novels? Or is it just me thats that sad?

Tar-Ancalimė
October 19th,2002, 08:03 PM

Belaqua
October 19th,2002, 08:09 PM
no idea whatsoever. But she has to die in the film! Lucas can't let her off the hook! No! Its not allowed!

Ronin
October 20th,2002, 01:14 AM
ach, but u're right..from the man who gave us Jar Jar...i wouldn't doubt that he would try and end the movie on a "happy" note by allowing Padme to just float off into the sunset...argh...i hope not!!

October 20th,2002, 11:31 AM
That'll be weird......

Catz
October 23rd,2002, 11:24 PM
it would be weird..........it would be a cop out......but it would be a hoppy ending....and we all know how fond Hollywood is of "happy endings"......and i dont really know if Lucas cares enough about his movies to fight it.....i hope so....but....theres always JJB.........

Jar Jar Binks is nuts

Belaqua
October 24th,2002, 08:20 PM
Jar Jar is without a doubt the most annoying and awful Star Wars character in the whole series. I think they tried to make a 3PO style sidekick but it failed and there is a song about Jar Jar? You have to be kidding me!

Adunauriel
October 24th,2002, 10:26 PM
 I like all the Star Wars movies, but I'm not a Junkie. I agree that the Love stuff in Episode II was a bit over done. I also think thou that it was required, but maybe just a little too mushy.
I liked the fact that Jar Jar wasn't in Episode II very much. He's a bit anoying

ive read one or two of the tie ins to SW and i have to say the quality is really variable, as is often the case with tie ins....but ive found some of them id read as novels happily and others that were a waste of the paper they were printed on......kind of the luck of the draw i think....
:catz:

Adunauriel
October 25th,2002, 10:57 PM
:) I think that's true of most kinds of books. Some are great like "I'm sure everyone here will agree" The Lord of the Ring trilogy. And some others are a waste of paper as you put it Catz. I always hope thou that whenever I pick one up to buy that it will be a good one. if not then that's why I like Used book stores. As for book burning... depends whether or not we're talking multiple copies of "Moonfleet" or notpfbbt

Catz
October 27th,2002, 01:19 AM
hmmm i cant decide between SW and ESB..the first one just has such a sweet almost naive quality...and after all it was our first taste of the SW universe....and ESB.....well it IS the best in terms of plot and development......
i caNOT burn a book...not even a trashed out old one.....im terrible lol lol
:catz:

Adunauriel
October 27th,2002, 08:08 AM
I too will say ESB is my fave..... Agree with Catz about the nieve quality of the Original SW. Love it too...Gotta say thou I love the Ewoks.

Never burned a book, but have read some that are burn worthy.

Ronin
October 27th,2002, 12:21 PM
absolutely tho, there is the greatest tie up between ESB and ANH...that naive quality, as u say, its just wonderful. ESB, for filmmatic reasons, is one of my favorite movies of all time...yet ANH really did begin everything, that simply cannot be denied.

and aye....burned a book did i!! actually, i only burned the corner edge of it...couldn't bring myself to go through with it  lol

Belaqua
October 27th,2002, 12:53 PM
I still say that Rotj is the best. Yes, it is cheesy, but its cheerful and sweet. I like ESB better than SW, which didn't impress me as much as the other two because it doesn't have the same level of character interaction as the other two. You burned a book!? Wow. I don't think i've ever wanted to do that. Oh wait...Moonfleet. Awful book and boring as hell, but i couldn't damage it cause it was a school book. Damn english teacher. I don't get why she made us read it when she clearly had better taste than that. Later on in the year we read Lotr, but only got up to the part at Bree.

Ilmarė
October 27th,2002, 04:08 PM
Yup bel... Moonfleet.. just awful.... tho i wouldn't ever burn a book... no matter how bad it was.

The only thing i can really remember about Moonfleet now was when the teacher made people in the class read sections out aloud... and one guy in the class described someone as "warming his hands on the brasierre".... lol roflmao roflmao

I'm not quite sure what it is that makes the prequels so...off. It has to be the acting. is it just me or is Natalie Portman a log? I mean, she really is wooden. There was just no chemistry between her and Hayden at all.

Bonos-Girl
November 1st,2002, 04:30 PM
i noticed that too.....a magazine put in an interview with hadyn that they had a real chemistry but i couldn't see it at all.....it was cool though.

Belaqua
November 1st,2002, 08:11 PM
WHAT! Somebody thought that they had chemistry?! you mean twiggy and the plank? Was that person blind? Did they watch the same movie? Sorry about the rant, but the new films have just killed my hopes for SW completely.

November 3rd,2002, 10:33 PM
yes....decrying SW once again, i love it!!

Natalie Portman...was perfect in TPM because of how distant she could be, now this...just not working at all when its her passions that spell doom for the universe...i mean, really, lets let go a wee bit ;) lol

Catz
November 4th,2002, 01:25 AM
Portman is a good actress tho....normally....so i cant help wondering if its a directing problem or perhaps the editing....bad editing has killed many a fine performance......or maybe that young HC has all the charm of a day old dead fish *hides behind the couch* sorry but he really has no presence at all does he? but then again in this neither does she..... lol
yeah too long building up the sense of her control, and then expecting it to be believable that it would just break down like that......without any prior glimpse of the fire that would make that possible.....Lucas does not do love very well does he?
:catz:

Adunauriel
November 4th,2002, 01:42 AM
Yea, I personally would blame the lack of emotion in the "love" on GL. To me it seem like how a guy would write about love. Over done when it doesn't need to be, and not done enough when it should be.;)

I think Natalie's a great actress. She was wonderful in Where the Heart Is.

November 4th,2002, 02:13 AM

Bonos-Girl

i've never seen any other natalie portman films (i don't think) so i can't really comme nt on wether it was good or bad in sw.

Ilmarė
November 4th,2002, 05:34 PM
pfbbt Portman is an ok actress... and in these films she's just way out of her depth. She's shared the SW screen time with fine actors...and has been proven lacking. She got away with it more in TPM... because of the whole Padme/QA thing. She wasn't helped by HC tho.... serious miscasting going on there.... absolutely NO chemistry whatsoever.... no passion. They were embarrassing!!! Lichen has more charisma than the two of them put together.

Ronin
November 5th,2002, 01:43 AM
lol....lichen, now i love that analogy. and have to agree Hayden, while i love the name, has some serious growing to do in terms of maturity as an actor. now while there were some serious and very obvious conflicts of chemistry between the stone and the stick (lol) - Hayden, i thought, had momentsof brilliance as Anakin...tho it was only for a few seconds, that brief flash of his eyes...or the timber of his voice. was perfect...in just that brief flash.

and Portman...admittedly i haven't seen much of her work besides SW...she has her moments, but - her break into passion was much too abrupt. Lucas has failed once again...first with the cuddly ewoks, and then, and then, and then  lol

Ilmarė
November 5th,2002, 10:37 AM
Yeah.. i agree with you there. HC did have the occasional second or so of brilliance.. but when you consider the importance of the character... Anakin's descent into the Dark Side...GL has a lot of apologising to do for that casting descision, that's all i'm saying.lol .. a lot of apologising to do.. period... especially for Jar Jar Binks!pfbbt verymad

Lucas can do love some of the time. After all, Han and Leia were good. Hayden was so-so. As for the Ewoks, i'm not sure whether they deserve a rant or not. Admittedly, their pathetic stone clubs would have done nothing against stormie armour, but they do have their moments

the one and only reason that there is a reason to like Ewoks is that fact that they took some intiative against Storm Troopers. apart from that...curse Lucas for ever thinking them up...to think they were only created for the pleasure of his children...its...its...its unnatural!!!! :elfeek:

I am such a Star Wars defender, and will go to the grave believing that movies like Lord of the Rings would not have been as great as they are if it weren't for George Lucas.

Although i'll admit FotR was a better movie(i.e. acting, script) than all the Star Wars movies...i still would take the Star Wars saga to a desert island over the LotR trilogy.

It just means more to me....(i also realize i would need a tv and electricity on that desert island.)

Ronin
November 27th,2002, 02:22 AM
I'm sorry, i really have to point this out...the Star Wars Trilogy was George Lucas' Lord of the Rings. He could not purchase the rights to Tolkien's namesake...as was the case for the Hobbit and subsequently Willow.

u would not have Star Wars without the Lord of the Rings ;)

Catz
November 27th,2002, 03:50 AM
Agreed Ronin........and actually most people who loved FOTR LOVED Lucas' trilogy too..........its just like many of them.......i think he should have stuck with a trilogy...these prequels have, rather than adding to the wonder of the originals, tarnished them by association......and i think thats very sad........
Loved the originals..........truely dislike the prequels.......

yeah, don't know if i could go so far as to say the prequels tarnish the granduer of the trilogy...just, lessens the magic as Lucas tries to extend it in all directions.

Catz
December 12th,2002, 04:13 AM
ummm yeah.....i can lol........i just thought the character as a whole was a mistake, never mind the CG aspects.......the bumbling sidekick schtick is a bit........old ......plus the fact that i dont find "how wuuuude!!!" to be particularly funny.
And the CG was also not the greatest.....the colour match was bad in places and the lighting not consistant, nor was the movement of the ears, or whatever they were........just not a good idea all up imo......*shrugs*

1- I 2 - II 3 - III 4 - IV 5 - V 6 - VI 7 - VII 8 - VIII 9 - IX 10 - X

Just trying to be helpful! I love StarWars though. It rocks!

Ronin

yeah, have to agree with catz here, sure...Lucas' CGI with Jar Jar may have been somewhat seamless (i still have issues with how ill-placed he is within the environment) - but the character itself, which is the judge of all things...was PATHETIC. that is the level by which Binks is measured, and thats it.

I'm what you'd call a Star Wars purist. As LOTR purists are those people who believe in the original story, or Tolkien's books, Star Wars purists believe the original story, Lucas' films. I don't read the Star Wars books, I don't know why, I just never wanted to leave the universe far, far away that I fell in love with. I love the Star Wars films, I always will, yet I fear they're losing their rank as #1 in my heart with Peter Jackson creating such incredible films.

I totally agree, although they're good, they are lacking something compared to the old ones...maybe its humor, maybe its Han Solo!

Bena
December 24th,2002, 06:46 PM
It is Han Solo! That's it, the missing piece to the puzzle that is the prequels. We need the smooth, yet shady character-a bad guy who you just can't help but love. Lucas tried to do this with Anakin, but it's just not the same when it's a teenager, and especially not when it's a Jedi. Jedi are supposed to be the honroable sheriffs, but it's the lone guns, like Solo, who actually make the wild west, or the universe in this case, fun.
(Hope I didn't use too many metaphors in this post!:))
