Has anyone else noticed that, from the TTT trailer, the film seems to be a lot diferent than the FOTR? I was watching the Fellowship trailers the other day, and then compared it to the new two towers preview.... I noticed that the second movie seems a lot less sureal and stylized than felloship... it seemed darker, more realistic, i guess you could say.
Perhaps it's PJ's style... denoting both the passing of the elves and the more magical elements of middle earth, as well as the darkness covering the land... or maybe the trailer for TTT just picked out more dramatic shots, that happened to be less stylized than most of the Fellowship was... that or i have too much time on your hands.... what am i saying? lol it's lotr. Never too much time.

Hi TB-Omega1,
Nice to meet you.
I know what you mean. I think TTT is as much a war film as anything else. Also it deals with very big changes in the characters mostly through trauma.
Also the whole film will be darker since there are no real "fluffy" breaks. You have the grim treatment of Merry and Pippin, Frodo and Sam's horrible journey and chaotic war in Rohan.
It will be interesting to see.

Hi Feathar!
I can completely see what you're saying! The atmosphere of the TTT is obviously going to be a lot less light than the first film, excellent, I say, just as the books were.

It was a little strange seeing the trailer and then hearing debates on Iraq. The language/tone/timing of the films is obviously coincidental, but nonetheless, I think we'll be getting newspaper columnists and such using TTT to stress their opinions on the whole debate on Iraq much like they did with FOTR and Afghanistan last year.

Ah good point Hans. Indeed the very fact that a conflict is hanging over us will mak ethe film relevant to many people.
I can see the headline now, with photos of the White House and Sadam's Palace facing each other.

Yes, TTT is going to be a more realistic yet darker film concerning war and strife, whereas FOTR was the precursor for those events.

Yeah that's what i was thinking Sindarin..... like maybe trying to show how middle earth is changing from being quite as sureal and majestic, and tranquil to dark, and forboding almost as the story continues and the age comes to a close.

I noticed that too. The first film was extremely stylized, and became less so towards the end. Everything after Lothlorien was much grittier and more real. I love it when a director turns the whole look of the film into a narrative voice like that. If the trend continues, just imagine what Return of the King is going to look like!

Every interview I've read confirms that TTT is going to be a much darker and realistic film. My take on it is that the difference is due to that fact that TTT primarily about the world of men, whereas in Fellowship out of the major stopovers, only one (Bree, of course!) was populated by men.

I thought that the styles were present in the books also.

yeah i think they are too. I mean it cant really be in the film and not in the book. it's more visually obvious in the films, but the books do get darker and the style of writing changes as well.

I am in complete agreement, but then again TTT should be darker. It's the start of all the really bad stuff

I found TTT Trailer many times better than the FOTR trailer. The mix that was played during the second part took my breath away, and it fit so well with the pictures! I watched a few....erm... hundred tmes

the thing with fotr is that its only the beginning of the 'bad stuff' whereas in ttt we're in the middle of it.

I bet after we see TTTwe are going to wonder how it could get any darker.... actually I am wondering now just by seeing the pure dispair Frodo and Sam show in the TTT trailer and it's only 2-3 minutes long! And Helm's Deep! Argh!! I love the part where the wall explodes right on cue with the music, as well as when its right on cue after Frodo speaks to Gollum...

yeah i love the trailer it's amazing. I agree it's better than FOTR one, but then i enjoyed TTT book more. I think that was actually because there was more development of characters, and the darker plot was fantastic.
