I have a Web site up which shows you how to play miniature war-games of the battles from The Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit. There are five battles so far: the Pelennor Fields, Helm's Deep, 5 Armies, Celebrant Field and both battles of Isen Fords: each battle page includes pictures of the miniatures used and maps, strategic and tactical. In Pelennor Fields, I provide a distillation of the rules we use to play medieval and ancient war-games; which work very well for fantasy too.http://tolkienbattles.bravepages.com/index.html
And I am glad to thank "Fatty" for this opportunity to let people know about my stuff!

Hi Merlin, welcome to War of the Ring. You should check out Ugluk's stand in the Armoury, we have some more waiting to go up too. maybe talk to Orc or start soem threads in the Armoury forum too.
Looks good, I play warhammer when I can. :-)

Thanks for the welcome. I tried out Warhammer once, the first ed, and although it had some interesting depth to it, I could never enjoy the static feel of the units in combat. OUR game is violent! The units come apart and crash through or eat through each other, and chaos reigns. It looks more gorgeous the more figures you put out on the board. And it plays fast too!

Cool. I sort of half expected to see your presence here, since you invited "Fatty" over to TR months ago after meeting him on his site.

Has anyone seen the screen shots in the new GW game the Two Towers, needless to say theyre as good as the ones in the first book, especially the rules for Gollum

I have put up a poll on my Website, to determine which of Tolkien's other battles (from a choice of ten) is the most popular. I will concentrate upon the one that comes out on top, and that will become my next battle page for playing it with miniatures.

Miniature Wargames magazine published my Battles of Isen Fords article:grin: I will now get to work on a map for Azanulbizar (someone elsewhere wants one), and the page for Battle of Dagorlad ("Siege of the Black Gate").

You got your article published in a magazine? Congrats, MerlintheMad! You sound like you're really dedicated, and your site is very cool indeed
Two thumbs up!

Thank you. "Dedicated" has a nicer ring to it than "Mad", but it doens't go with my name nearly as well. But, one man's dedication is viewed (perhaps) as madness by some:hyper:

I agree, Ig and MtM... but I guess it doesn't matter unless you enjoy it! ;)

This might be a stupid question but that looks AWESOME! can you still buy them? (in other words stores like, say, walmart or an online store like amazon.)

Do you mean, buy the miniatures? WalMart, et al, does not sell them: but gaming shops do. Also, manufacturers sell online: the best plast I know of to get a list of Websites for miniatures manufacturers (and painters, if you have moola and little time or talent/inclination that way), is The Miniatures Page (http://theminiaturespage.com/)

I have updated my Tolkien site with some provisional battle descriptions and war-game table maps for several more battles, including Azanulbizar, Fornost, Dagorlad.....

You mean the GW TLOTR miniatures sets ? Yeah, I think the larger bookstores are carrying a variety of TLOTR miniatures, action figures, etc. You never know what you're going to find when you walk into a big bookstore these days
