What does the elvish writing on Sting say?

It says, "Maegnas is my name, I am the spider's bane" it is written in Sindarin.

Interesting that the inscription would say anything about spiders, afterall it was forged several thousand years before Bilbo used it to poke spiders in Mirkwood, or Sam used it against Shelob

It's been suggested the inscription on the blade and guard were added while Bilbo stayed at Rivendell as a token of friendship from the elves. Groovy! :cool:

And i found the inscription on Glamdring:

Turgon, king of Gondolin, wields, has and holds the sword Glamdring, foe of Morgoth's realm, hammer to the Orcs.
