The first thing I ever saw Hugo Weaving in was Priscilla, Queen of the Desert. He was marvelous. I'd completely forgotten that he was in The Matrix because I didn't care for that film. He's terrific in Proof and The Interview.

Proof is a very good movie. Hugo Weaving plays a man named Martin who has been blind since birth. He's distrustful of sighted people, convinced that they lie to him just because they can. He takes photos of places/things/people and then has people describe the photos back to him as 'proof' that what he experienced is what they saw. He makes friends with a guy named Andy (Russell Crowe) and through that friendship begins to allow himself to trust others. The movie has some terrific performances in it.

Hugo Weaving is definitely not gay! He has played a few gay characters, though, including one in "Bedrooms and Hallways" where I'd give anything to be in the place of his, uh, partner! I've only seen pictures, but they are definitely at least R-rated!

OK I am one of the guilty there Tar :blush: I voted for Proof last night and planned to come come back (it was on my mental list of 'need to go back and write something sensible on').
Okay I selected Proof but actually the first time I saw him was in a miniseries called 'Bodyline' in the early 80s (I've just relised I'm narrowing my age down by doing that ...hmmmmm.... I was little ;) ). Anyway, that story revolved the controversial era of bodyline tactics in cricket (potentially interesting even for non-cricket lovers though I saw it like 20-odd years ago). One of Hugo's projects not listed above, but that is worth a look is "The Interview". Hugo won his second (?) AFI (Leading Male) for that role and he was truly very good (the story revovles around a police interview and Hugo plays the suspect). For a total contrast to that part try Priscilla. Its funny.

Priscilla is such a good movie, imo much better than the similar Us film, whose title I can never remember, but its got Patrick Swazye in....anyway, that was the first film I saw Hugo Weaving in.
Proof sounds pretty good - I may have to rent it.

I lost my VHS of Priscilla so went out and bought the DVD and had such fun watching it—without my husband of course, 'cos he'd FREAK if he saw Agent Elrond in drag.

Now I think of Hugo as Agent Elrond Del Bra! He's the best!

His first movie that I saw was FOTR and I loved him there (he may not be the book-Elrond,but he did a great job).Next was Matrix and though I quite dislike the movie,I liked him there.His best role,though,was in Priscilla..He was so cute and funny there...It is one of my fav movies...
