The End is Near
O Love Divine, that stopped to share,
My sharpest pang, my bitterest tear,
Inside I keep each earth-bound care.
I smile at pain, for the end is near.
Though long the weary way we tread,
And danger crown each coming trail,
Some paths we shun, and darkness dread,
My heart doth whisper, "The end is near."
When drooping pleasure turns to grief,
And trembling faith is turned to fear,
The murmuring winds, the quivering leaf,
Shall softly tell me, "The end is near."
Inside I keep my burdening woe.
O Love Divine, forever dear,
Content to suffer while we know,
Living or dying, the end is near.
