Yeah they both come out in the same year a few months between each other. I think they were filmed simultanious kinda like lotr.

Yeah, next year is going to be one heck of a ride for sci-fi/fantasy fans. and no worries about surprises...they've actually started to release plot details and some minor spoilers on the news sites now...so if this shocked u, stay away from anything else Matrix-related!!

and for those who want to know, The Matrix Reloaded is out May 15th, 2003 while The Matrix Revolutions is out during the holiday season...i would guess to battle with either the 3rd Harry Potter or The Return of the King.

i believe "Revolutions" main competition is ROTK in the view of the studios......same demographic, where the HP crowd are a litle too young....should be a really good year SF/Fantasy wise as you say...and yeah both the sequels were shot together a la LOTR....dunno if thats good or bad....guess ill find out lol

from the mass of rumors the absolutely massive set production on the Matrix produced...i'd say it was a very good thing ;)
and yeah, right about ROTK perhaps being Revolutions main adversary in regards to the age brackets...tho i'm still curious as to whether they'll cram it into the already crowded Christmas season (along with ROTK) or heap it with HP in November sometime. the latter would be a smart move so that it wouldn't get lost in the shuffle (not like it really could)...but we know studios aren't known for their smarts ;)

Catz
October 17th,2002, 11:16 PM
well....it prob would make sense to move the relase to Nov....but then the Christmas crush exists for a reason......taking advantage of that market cant be underestimated either....and by the time ROTK is released i think the movie will have gotten to the point where comparisons with HP will be fairly meaningless, y'know.....totally different beasties

well, true enough....but then again, we are still comparing LOTR to HP...so i'm thinking there really isn't much help for any of us ;)

You are.......not this kittylol......apples and oranges to my way of thinking...

well, of course...hmmmm...must do it for some reason.

ah yes....so easy to ridicule something by presenting the polar opposite lol

Matrix Revoultions Vs ROTK... it'll have to be ROTK of course but I will be seeing both.

Matrix Reloaded - 15 May 2003

Matrix Revolutions - 7 November 2003

I write it down in my book.

Ronin
October 25th,2002, 11:48 AM
hmmm....the 7th? Revolutions vs. Harry Potter then, if somewhat displaced...interesting

Catz
October 25th,2002, 11:54 AM
well i think industry money is on HP, cos the figures there get inflated by the simple fact that given the demographic you have more family groups, and thus more sales.....and as a head to head Revolutions and HP are even less related than LOTR and HP, so i really dont think a direct comparison is that valid...tho i guess to the suits only on comparison really matters and thats box office
:catz:

I will see only Matrix and LOTR!

Ronin
October 25th,2002, 05:18 PM
yeah, exactly right...comparisons of plot, theme, and characters are out the window when it comes strictly to the box office. but right on...less in common between the 3 movies than there ever was. Matrix...Reloaded and Revolutions will open with huge BO's...but in strict comparison with HP and LOTR, i believe the analysis might be right that it'll be the kid and the hobbit who come out on top. or should i say the returning king? ;)

and btw, Warner is absolutely awful in reporting inflated and adjusted BO info. New Line reports, and did report with FOTR, the cleanest BO...which would've been probably closer to HP's if practices had been similar.

Personally I think they will all be good and a lot of people will watch all three. Yes I know HP is aimed at a younger audience but parents still have to watch too or how else will the little dears get to the flicks, I speak from experience. Whilst not as good as LOTR, from my own personal point of view, I wasn't in the least bit bored. As for the Matrix it is a completely different type of film, more sci-fi than fantasy and again was a great film.
I for one will have to take the youngest to see HP. I will definitely go to see LOTR and it will depend on the funds after that but I will probably have to take the eldest to see the Matrix.

heheheh....you said it not me!!!
ill prob give young HP a miss, but the other two are on.....and yeah, its interesting to see how they compile their BO figs isnt it.....the criteria can be very different......just goes to show thi infinite manipulativity (is there such a word? lol ) of statistical data....

Yes according to the OED there is such a word. I agree with you all statistics can be manipulated to say whatever you want them too.

I probably won't go and see the Matrix cause i'm a cheapskate and can't be bothered to fork out the money to go to the cinema! As for HP......NO WAY ON THIS EARTH am i going to see that. I can't stand it. I've tried reading the books but i found them boring and banal. Then my friends tried to convince me to read them which just made me hate the whole idea.

heh...look, she's a firestrater and has an english bent ;) :p

lol...anyway, i've made no bones about my pure and utter hatred, but i love books and movies...so shall give the movie another chance (still have yet to read the books). no the matrix....and lotr? this is like...fanboy heaven   lol

*grabs her fanboy drool proof rain coat* ;)
i HAVE to see the Matrix on the big screen....from seeing the first one in the theatres and on the TV, i think its really one of those movies that needs the scope of the big screen and the theatre sound system to do it justice...
:catz:

Ronin
October 25th,2002, 11:50 PM
hmmmm...there are a very few movies whose scope and "aura" (for lack of a better word) absolute need the big screen for the full effect. don't know if i'd consider The Matrix to be one of them, saying that...would be a disservice to not see it in the theatre. lol...i think...i just argue against myself ;) :p

Catz
October 25th,2002, 11:55 PM
hehehe just keep taking the pills Ronin....lol roflmao
and i wasnt so much thinking of the scope of the movie as in its artistic merit...but more, simply that given the effects and so on, its designed to be seen at that big size....and i think we should see these things the way theyre meant to be seen at least once...

Firestarter Ronin? that would be my dragon, with an english bent yes that's me. Sorry if that upsets you but what can I say I like the english language and I am reasonably good at it. Oh and Ramoth can get very touchy when riled too much. ;)

*smiles wryly*...i was actually trying to get catz's goat with the firestarter comment, but good to see i roused someone else's as well ;) and ach...all love for the english language and those who have some proclivity towards...an english major myself...so, i can sympathize ;)

*sighs*...the pills do help... lol ach, aye we agree then...tho i believe most movies, if they deserve it (artistically - which encapsulates all facets of the movie), should be seen in the theatre at least once. not at all possible for most movies....but for the few, the effort almost has to be made. ok....i love movies....i admit it ;)

October 26th,2002, 06:31 PM
heheh havent you got enough goats? im starting to wonder about this goat thing;) lol :elfeek:
yeah well to critically assess anything you need to give it its optimum condtions first...to be fair....and it is tough these days that movies have to be able to translate to the small screen.....i think something has been lost in that....but thats just my opinion.....the great movies transcend that difficulty.....
:catz:

Lessa
October 27th,2002, 08:38 AM
It's true a film doesn't have the same impact on the small screen as in the cinema. Having said that no film has the same impact twice. The initial surprise and wow has gone to be replaced by gosh I missed that before or just a deeper appreciation for the whole thing. Like a good book you can read over and over and see something new every time.

i have an affinity towards goats....is there something so wrong with that? roflmao lol

and completely agree, the full effect...the true first effects should be seen in a theatre for a true appreciation of the movies qualifications. as always...those truly great films have never had a problem maintaining their essence from big to small screen.

absolutely Lessa...a truly great film or book does inspire multiple readings or viewing just to engross urself further in the world...to discover all that u can.

i guess wed have to ask the goats that;) :p lol
and yeah, any truly great piece be it theatre, film or any other piece of art, repays many visits...many viewings...that is what makes them great...that they can appeal on many levels, and speak to us on all of them.....that you can, as has been said, see more in them each time....they have a power to enchant the mind and engage the senses.....

wonderfull said catz, could not have said it better myself...really
hmmm...so perhaps...thats why i've seen FOTR? lol
