In case you don't read TORN, Surreal released a demo of their FotR game (The one where you play as Frodo, Aragorn, or Gandalf). The link is http://www.fileshack.com/file.x?fid=1425 (note that this is one of those sites where you have to register to download, then you have to wait in line for the thing to start...)

Also, you need DirectX 8.1 to play it, so if you don't have it, get it!

Personally, I'm not all that impressed. The intro video clip was too sketchy, and the dialog all around isn't written very well. Plus, they don't give a lot of the backstory about the ring, including information on who Bilbo is or how it came Frodo!

Not to mention that I've noticed a major bug already - when I'm walking around, the control invariably sticks and I have to alt-tab out of it then back in to unstick it. Makes the game almost unplayable.

Thoughts?

i don't have time to play it, but that bug sounds really annoying......do they know about it do you reckon?

Actually, I think it may be a problem with my system, since I started ising W,A,S,D for directional keys and it worked fine. *shrug*

But after having more time to play it, I must say that I do think it's a cool game, with visuals that are refreshingly different than the movie. I was pleased to see that it seems to stick very close to the book!

*adds it to list of games to buy*

Hmm Tary it is a demo. It is very buggy, I havea geforce3 and it still keeps pausing and crashing.

I will not be buying this game. It looks not bad but Universal have squandered a great license by trying to compete for release with EA. This game should have had a custom graphics engine and broken some new ground...anyway I won't rant anymore.

If you buy a lot of games get this one. If you only buy a few...don't.

Tary, make sure your graphics drivers are up to date. Other than that I really can't help you. *shrug*

I just played the demo and the graphics are pretty good, as well as the sound, but the camera view is annoying and the gameplay far too linear. Of course, they're following a specific story, so it's going to be a bit linear, but still...
I won't buy it, but maybe they'll learn some lesson from this one and make better ones for the other books.
What I'd love to see is a massively multiplayer game that would knock the upcoming Star Wars Galaxies game upside the head and off the map!
Anything to smack George Lucas off his pedestal.
Sadly, I probably will buy Galaxies as it looks amazing. A LOTR game of that magnitude would simply stun me into a coma.

I have heard rumers about them making a massively multiplayer LOTR game and a strategy game.

I've heard rumors too, but....

I downloaded the demo and it wouldn't work on my computer for some stupid reason.

Oh well. It didn't look all that great anyway.
