I want to be space-efficient and not so "Bohemian" in my posting, so I thought I'd "kill two birds with one stone".:) So, has anyone read either David McCullough's John Adams or Geoffrey Chaucer's The Canterbury Tales ?:read: I know there couldn't possibly be two more complete opposites, but they have both been school assignments, and I have liked them both in different ways. JA is incredibly well-written and there are no ambiguities, but Chaucer. . . It takes me to a time and culture that is not my own. I did not know, until we were lectured, for instance, that a gap in the teeth (such as the Wife of Bath's) meant, in Medieval times, that one was very. . .sexually active. But, if you haven't read either, I highly suggest that you do!

I have read both. I do not like John Adams but the book was good, actually. The Canterbury Tales...ah, the Canterbury Tales. My english teacher made us memorize the first bit of the prolouge in Old English. ;) Talk about fun :)

I was supposed to read the Canterbury Tales a few weeks ago. I started reading it, but I never had time to finish it. I'm doing a course of old literature at Uni this semester, so that's why.
I still know what happens in it though. I studied English before and we had to learn a lot about the Canterbury Tales then. It's interesting though. :)

Ha! We had to read it in my lit class my freshman year in high school, but not memorize the first part in middle (I don't think it's old) english. We were the only lit class that didn't too!
We didn't read the whole thing, and though it was one of the better reads that year, but it still didn't interest me that much. Freshman lit was a horrible course. :)
