Do you mind if I post a story I've started writing that's not set in Middle Earth? It's a fantasy story with noticeable similarities to Middle Earth stuff. I'll post it part by part. I NEED comments and criticism! It is very bad and needs work, and I need help. Well, here it is . . .
I
The Village of Dilan
King Aractus awoke on a small bed. Aractus was an aging man, yet still strong and agile. He had long brown hair and a thin beard. He couldn’t remember why he was here, or where he was. He had a sharp pain on the top of his head. He reached up and felt beneath his hair. There was a large bruise. Aractus did not remember being hit on the head. He looked around to see that he was in a small room with wooden walls. There were no windows. He noticed several paintings on the wall and a door at the opposite end of the room. He stood up and walked to one of the paintings. He was wearing his traditional purple cloak. The painting was of Arnon, the capitol city of Ryoth, the kingdom of Aractus. Aractus turned and saw his crown sitting on the desk next to his bed. He walked to the desk and set the crown upon his head. Then he stepped up to the only door in the room. He heard voices through the door. Three, maybe four people were talking. Aractus recognized two of the voices. One of them was Arkian, an old friend of Aractus’. The other was Bindan, a trusted member of the royal guard. Aractus put his hand on the knob and opened the door.
There were four people in the next room. Arkian and Bindan were there. The other two people were knights. The first knight was Eric of Blackthorn, as shown by the black rose painted on his shield, a trusted knight of Ryoth. The second knight was not recognized by Aractus. The knight wore a tall silver greathelm and had a gray hawk painted on his shield. “Your majesty!” cried Bindan. Bindan bowed before Aractus. Bindan had short brown hair, similar to Aractus’. Bindan had been in the royal guard for eight years now, Aractus was very near promoting him to captain of the guard.
Arkian stepped up to Aractus and bowed, his long white beard almost touching the ground. Arkian was an old wizard, Arkian was known well by Aractus’ now dead parents. Aractus had figured that Arkian was immortal because Arkian had been this old for as long as Aractus had known him. Arkian would never reveal any information about his origins, yet Aractus always trusted Arkian. “My good friend, Aractus,” said Arkian “I am glad to see that you are well.”
“As are the rest of us,” said Eric of Blackthorn. Eric was a tall man with long black hair. He had a very thin face with light blue eyes.
“Who is this?” asked Aractus, pointing to the knight with the gray hawk painted on his shield.
“This is Sir Araden of Grypha,” said Arkian “We should all be grateful to him, for it was he who saved our lives.”
Aractus did not remember anything about being near death, nor anything about danger. “From what?” he asked.
“You do not remember the battle at Arnon?” asked Bindan.
“Nay,” said Aractus “What has happened at Arnon and where are we?”
“At noon, five days ago, a small red creature was found within the outer walls of Arnon. Almost goblin-like, it seemed. It was brought before the high council of Arnon and after some questioning it warned us of a great attack on Arnon,” said Eric of Blackthorn “The soldiers took up arms and scouts were posted in the surrounding fields of Delis. Archers were posted on both the outer and inner walls of Arnon.”
“Less than an hour later Arnon was attacked by a great army of the red beasts, accompanied by orcs and trolls,” said Bindan “The archers fired volley after volley of arrows in an attempt to hold back the creatures, but all attempts were futile, waves of the creatures continued pouring into the city.”
Then Eric said “You and the royal guard fell back to the north gate of the city while the red beasts, trolls, and orcs plundered the city. You were ambushed by a group of trolls and would have fallen if it were not for Sir Araden and the Rangers of Mithelas.”
“We scaled the outer wall and saw you being attacked by the vicious trolls,” said Araden, “The elven rangers stayed upon the wall and fired arrows at the trolls while I leaped from the wall and fought on foot. I discovered that you had been struck on the head by a troll mace and had been knocked unconscious. I suspect that is how you lost your memory of the battle.”
“Araden and his rangers took us from Arnon to here, the small village of Dilan,” said Bindan “Later, another portion of the army arrived, bring news... Your majesty, I am sorry to be the one to bring you the grim news that Arnon has fallen to the enemy.”
Aractus stood for a moment, jaw hanging open. He then sat down and said “This is grave news indeed,”
Aractus looked up at Eric and asked “Do we have no information about who these creatures are led by?”
“No,” said Eric “The red beast that we captured would reveal nothing.”
Aractus spent almost a minute sitting and thinking. “Good Sir Araden,” he said “will you not take off your helm and show us your face?”
Araden reached up and put his hand on the shining silver helm. He lifted it to reveal long blond hair and blue eyes almost identical to Eric’s. Aractus stared at Araden. Araden looked very much like an elf, perhaps he was one. “Would you be an elf?” asked Aractus.
“Nay,” said Araden “I am human, yet I was raised by the elves of Mithelas.”
“Let us go outside,” said Aractus “I wish to see this town.”
Dilan was a small village, less than 20 leagues from Arnon. It was usually not very crowded. Luckily, there are several clerics living in Dilan who are busy tending the wounds of the injured soldiers. The town was overcrowded with the soldiers of Arnon staying in Dilan. There were many tents along the sides of all of the roads. The roads were constantly filled with talking soldiers. Dilan was surrounded by a large forest that stretched almost to the out walls of Arnon. The people would have fled Dilan with the news that Arnon had fallen if it were not for the army staying in the village, yet people were still frightened.

Aractus stepped out side to see a road bustling with soldiers. He noticed that many people rejoiced to see him alive. Bindan stepped out behind Aractus and said “The cleric’s homes are to the west of here, if you wish to visit the many officers that were wounded in the battle, I can take you there.”
“Yes, I would like to do so,” said Aractus.
Bindan led Aractus, Araden, Arkian, and Eric down a small dirt road until they reached a small stone house with several stained glass windows. The windows depicted tales of old, tales of the Second Age of the world. Aractus was not interested in these tales, for he had heard them all when he was young. His father, Narimath, had loved telling tales of old. Whenever he held a feast, he would always begin it with a story of a great hero, or a foul beast. And every night, Narimath would tell Aractus a different tales. After several years, Narimath had told Aractus every tale he knew, so he told the same tales over again because Aractus had grown to need the stories to fall asleep at night. By the time Narimath was dead, Aractus had almost memorized all of the tales Narimath had known.
Aractus would have explained the stained glass windows to the others, but Aractus was too disturbed by the fall of Arnon to spend time doing this. Aractus stepped inside the stone building to see many cots laid in rows throughout the large room. There were several men and women dressed in Cleric’s robes tending to the injured soldiers. Aractus recognized one of the men in one of the cots. It was Derik of Menith, another trusted knight of Ryoth. Aractus walked to the cot with Bindan, while Eric, Araden, and Arkian stayed near the door.
“Your majesty!” said Derik in a raspy voice. Derik tried to sit up in the cot but Aractus would not let him.
“It is all right, my friend,” said Aractus “How were you injured?”
“I was waiting at the south gate with several other knights including Frederick,” he said, pointing to the man sleeping in the cot next to his, “When we saw the red beasts coming, the gate was opened and we rode out. We would have easily defeated the red beasts if it were not for the orcs. We were ambushed from behind by a group of orcs. I was knocked from my horse and was trampled by several orcs and would have bled to death-” Derik began coughing.
“Are you all right?” asked Aractus.
“Yes, thank you,” said Derik “Frederick found me and rode me back through the outer wall with several other knights. We were ambushed by trolls and Frederick was nearly killed. We were found by some footmen and brought to Dilan-” Derik began coughing again.
“I am all right,” he said, “I just need rest.”
“Then rest, my friend,” said Aractus “I am sorry for troubling you.”
Derik lied down and shut his eyes. Aractus stood up and turned to Bindan. “Where is Varin Deanfeld?” he asked. Varin Deanfeld was the captain of the royal guard. He was a very brave and loyal man. He had nearly sacrificed his life for Aractus many times, as had Bindan.
“Varin Deanfeld...” said Bindan “...was not found among the living.”
“Alas, for my loyal guard, Varin Deanfeld,” said Aractus “Did he die in battle?”
“Yes,” said Bindan “He died to save you from a giant troll warrior.”
“That is good,” said Aractus “He died with great honor.”
“Yes,” said Bindan “That is true.”
“Let us go.” said Aractus.
They left the Cleric’s houses and walked into the dirt road. “What portion of the army survived the battle?” asked Aractus.
“Less than half,” said Eric.
Suddenly the was an elf clad in green standing in front of Araden. Aractus did not know who he was or where he had come from. It had long blond hair with blue-gray eyes. The elf mumbled something in elven to Araden. Araden answered and turned to Aractus and said “One of the red beasts has been found in the forest surrounding Dilan. They began walking South. After a while the road ended and they entered a dense forest. They continued walking through the forest. Along the way they were introduced to the elf by Araden.
“This is Elenas Treebreeze, captain of the Rangers of Mithelas,” said Araden.
“Greetings,” said Elenas “I am glad that it was possible to save you, your majesty.”
“I would like to thank you two,” Aractus said to Araden and Elenas “and I would like to thank the rest of the Rangers of Mithelas.”
They entered a small clearing. There was a thin red creature standing in the center of the clearing. The creature’s long, thin arms were nearly touching the ground. Just then Aractus noticed two elves standing behind the red creature, holding swords up to it’s back. Another elven ranger stepped from the shadows.
Aractus was amazed by the stealth of the Rangers of Mithelas. They appeared from the underbrush with no sound at all. Another elven ranger appeared behind Eric.
“So this is one of them,” said Araden “One of the foul beasts that attacked Arnon.”
“These are the creatures that attacked Arnon?” said Aractus “and now they come to kill me here in Dilan?”
The red creature raised it’s arms in the air and said “I do not come to kill you, I come with of message from the Dark Lord in Veris Mountain, the Dark Lord who rules the land of Grelnic, the Dark Lord who will soon rule all, the Dark Lord whose name is Darxsis!”
Arkian frowned. The red beast reached into a sack hanging from it’s belt and pulled out a scroll. It unrolled the scroll and read from it. “The Dark Lord Darxsis wishes you to join him in an alliance. In return for helping him, he will reward you with a shard of the Relinis Crystal. The shard will provide you with powers unbelievable. You will have the ability to control other men’s minds, to destroy entire nations. Darxsis hopes you will accept, like the many other lords and kings who have accepted before. Be warned, you have seen the strength of Darxsis. If you are not an ally of Darxsis, you are an enemy.”
“Free the beast,” said Aractus. The Rangers of Mithelas backed away from the creature. “Go now!” said Aractus “Return to the foul place that you were spawned in!”
The creature turned and ran into the underbrush. “Follow him,” Aractus said to the rangers, “Be sure he leaves the forest.”
“You must refuse the offer,” said Arkian “The Crys-”
“Call together a council,” said Aractus “I must speak with the highest ranking soldiers in the army.”
Okay, that's all I'm gonna post right now. Please point out all my stupid mistakes on the story so far.

I've got nothing better to do, so I'm gonna post more of the story for the public's reading enjoyment. Read it if you want.
King Aractus found the largest building in Dilan to house the council in. He found that one farmer had a house barely big enough to house the council. He ordered several soldiers to set up tables and chairs. The chairs were set up in a semicircle, each with a table in front of them. There were ten chairs in the semicircle. In front of the semicircle he placed the finest chair in all of Dilan. That chair was to be his temporary throne.
He had called ten people to the council. They included Arkian, Araden, Eric, Bindan, Elenas, and a well respected mage named Felin. Arkian was the first to arrive at the council. The door burst open and behind it stood Arkian. Arkian was dressed in long, blue robes. His long white beard was swaying in the wind. “The times are dark,” said Arkian as he entered, “darker than I feared.”
Aractus did not know what he meant by this, but he suspected that Arkian knew something horrible that none of the other members of the council knew.
The next to arrive was Eric of Blackthorn. He was dressed in pure black. He wore a long black cape, strapped around his neck. Araden and Elenas arrived next. They were wearing elven robes that blended in with everything around them. Aractus saw that Elenas’ hair was long and blond, similar to Araden’s.
Felin the mage came in the council room next. Felin was wearing bright yellow robes. They seemed to sparkle like the sun. The robes lit the entire room up. It was so bright that Aractus was forced to shield his eyes. When the door was closed behind Felin, the light died down. Felin had short black hair and was constantly smiling. Aractus felt that it was good to have someone like Felin near, for he seemed to find a happier side to everything. Felin brought joy to Aractus in times of great sorrow. Aractus had been friends with Felin when he was young. Felin was similar to Arkian in many ways. Felin was wise and intelligent, and gave Aractus advice when he needed it most. Felin did not seem to be immortal, as did Arkian. Felin aged like Aractus. Felin was only a few years younger than Aractus.
Bindan came in with Captain Caperor, a great leader of Ryoth’s armies. Bindan sat in the sat nearest to Aractus. Aractus stood up walked to Bindan. Bindan bowed and said “Yes, your majesty?”
“I believe you should take Varin Deanfeld’s place as the captain of the royal guard,” said Aractus.
Bindan smiled. “Thank you, your majesty,”
Variten Corinn entered next. He was the captain in charge of every single archer in Ryoth. He was a great marksman and a good friend. Aractus had not known him for long, but Aractus respected Variten very much.
The last person to arrive was Dennor of Calliton. Dennor was a brave knight who had fought many battles alongside Eric of Blackthorn. Eric stood up and greeted Dennor with a handshake and then they both took their seats. Dennor had long brown hair and a short beards. He was very tall and muscular.

“Let the council begin,” said Aractus. Aractus gave Arkian the signal to speak.
Arkian stood up and looked at all of the members of the council. “Less than three hours ago one of the dreaded red beasts was found in the forest surrounding Dilan,” he said “The creature came with a message. He requested that Ryoth join in an alliance with the Dark Lord Darxsis. I am sure some of you know of Darxsis, yet others do not. Darxsis came to power many years ago, during the rule of King Gregoris. He has never been seen by a mortal man. For the tales told that any man who layed eyes on him would be slain by his immense power. He came from a place no one knew, and with him he brought a horde of orcs and demon-like creatures. He layed siege to the capitol of Grelnic, Cyria, a large castle near The Veris Mountains, and destroyed it. He made Veris Mountain his home. He took control of Grelnic and declared war on Ryoth and many other kingdoms of the day. King Gregoris took a great army of Ryothian knights and journeyed into Grelnic. He attacked Veris Mountain and was near defeat, but the Knights of the Burning Circle from the Kingdom of Leoroth came to his aid. Together, the two armies defeated Darxsis’ great armies. Darxsis was never found. And now, it seems that the Dark Lord Darxsis has returned and has great power once again. For it was him that destroyed Arnon.”
Several people gasped. “The Red Beast said that in return for the alliance,” continued Arkian “He would supply King Aractus with a shard of the Relinis Crystal.”
This did not seem to mean anything to any members of the council other than Felin. Felin eyes widened and he opened his mouth as if he was going to say something but then he stopped.
“Though you may have heard nothing of the Relinis Crystal before this,” said Arkian “Every single wizard or mage in this world knows of the Relinis Crystal. The Relinis Crystal is the most powerful magical artifact in the world. It is a huge crystal, nearly five feet in diameter. An amazingly powerful magical field radiates from it. This crystal was said to be lost at the end of the second age of the world. It seems that Darxsis has the crystal and is distributing shards of the crystal to lords and kings in return for alliances.”
Variten Corinn stood up next. “How much power would one shard of the crystal hold?”
“Though far less than the main body of the crystal, one shard would still hold amazing power,” said Arkian, “Anyone who has one shard of the crystal or the crystal itself could not help but become corrupt and evil. If Aractus were to accept the offer, the results would be disastrous.”

June 25th,2002, 02:41 PM
“Could we not use the crystal’s power for good?” asked Eric of Blackthorn.
“Nay,” said Arkian.
Felin stood up. “This is a trick, your majesty, I can assure you of that.”
“I agree, your majesty,” said Bindan.
“If we are not to accept this offer, Darxsis will attack us again,” said King Aractus “And I assure you that he will attack Dilan first.”
Araden stood up and said “I suggest we leave for Mio Del.”
Mio Del was that second largest city in Ryoth. The only larger city was Arnon. Mio Del was surrounded by giant silver walls. While the sun shone, lights would reflect off of the silver walls, creating flashes of glittering sparks.
“Yes,” said Aractus, “I agree with Sir Araden. For my son, Prince Aires, is in Mio Del with a large army of Ryothian knights.”
“We could use the army to take back Arnon,” said Captain Caperor “And then march into Grelnic and destroy Darxsis.”
“I doubt that the army in Mio Del could even come near to destroying Grelnic. I doubt any army we have could destroy Grelnic,”
said Aractus, “But let us not speak of such things yet, we will have a council in Mio Del. Let us leave tomorrow at sunrise.”
Everyone stood up and left the farmhouse. Aractus told Dennor and Eric to tell the army of the journey to Mio Del. Aractus walked back to the house he was staying in, thinking about his son, Prince Aires. Aractus was glad that Aires had left Arnon when he did. Aires had left one day before the attack on Arnon with a few members of the royal guard. He was leaving to Mio Del, to visit an old friend of his. Aractus worried that Aires had most likely already received new on the fall of Arnon and may believe that Aractus was dead.
Aractus entered the small room where he had met Araden and look out the door one more time. It was getting late now, the sun was setting. He had the guards posted outside of the house. He entered the room with the bed, took off his crown, and went to sleep.
Aractus awoke the next morning to yelling outside of the door. He stood up and put on his crown and walked outside. He found Captain Caperor, Eric of Blackthorn, and one footman.
“What is all of this noise for?!” he asked.
“Not all of the soldiers are ready to leave,” said Captain Caperor, “Somehow the news of the journey was not transferred to the soldiers.”
“Hmmm....” said Aractus. He looked quite disappointed. “Postpone the journey to tomorrow,” he said, “Be sure all of the soldiers hear this.”
Caperor, Eric, and the footman walked away. Aractus decided to take a walk around the town. He entered the town square. It was a small opening with a fountain in the center of it. There was a statue of his grandfather, Gregoris, the greatest king Ryoth had ever known, coming out of the center of the fountain. He walked up to the fountain and looked down into the water. He sat there and thought for some time. The kingdom of Ryoth was going to be at war with Darxsis soon. It would be impossible to defeat him at war. Ryoth would surely fall.
Aractus looked back into the water, not only did he see himself, but he saw an elf standing above him. He turned towards the elf. This elf was not Elenas, but it was one of his rangers. “What is it?” asked Aractus.
“Another red beast has been found in the forest,” he said “He wishes to see you.”
Aractus stood in thought. “Very well.”
The elf led Aractus South again. “Forgive me for not introducing myself,” said the elf, “My name is Arbine, I am a Ranger of Mithelas.”
Aractus did nothing but nod, he was in deep thought. He was thinking about whether or not to refuse Darxsis’ offer. If he refused the offer Darxsis would continually attack Ryoth until it falls. If he accepted the offer, his people would be saved, but he would become corrupt and would be controlled by Darxsis.
Aractus finally noticed where they were. They were very deep in the forest now. Arbine led him East until they stepped into the shadow of a large oak tree. One of the red beasts was waiting there with two elven rangers.
“What do you want?” asked Aractus.
“You have run out of time,” said the red beast “Darxsis demands that you give your answer now.”
“No,” said Aractus, “No. I will never agree to an alliance with Darxsis. Ryoth may fall, for that is better than being controlled by the vile scum that is your master!”
“So be it,” said the beast. The beast reached into it’s sack and pulled out a horn and put it to it’s mouth.

June 25th,2002, 02:42 PM
“Stop him!” said Aractus.
A loud horn blast blew past Aractus’ ears. Two arrows flew from the underbrush and stuck into the creature’s chest. It groaned and collapsed. Aractus and the rangers heard many answering horn calls in the distance.
“Make haste!” cried Aractus “The army of Darxsis is upon us.”
Aractus and the Rangers began running towards Dilan. When they arrived Aractus told the rangers to spread the word of attack to all of the army. Aractus found Eric and Dennor walking together in the road. “The enemy is coming,” he said “Ready your weapons.”
“Yes, your majesty,” said Dennor.
Aractus ran to the stables and said to the master “Make ready my horse, we will ride into battle today.”
The stable master brought out Aractus’ white horse. The horse’s name was Sunburst. He called upon one of peasants to put the armor on his horse. One of the royal guards retrieved the royal armor and assisted Aractus in wearing it. After the silver helm was set upon his head, Aractus mounted Sunburst and was handed his lance, sword, and shield. He sheathed his sword and held his lance and sword in front of him. He rode to the town square where the footmen were assembled. The knights were on another road, in charging formation. He spoke with Captain Caperor to see if all was going well.
Aractus rode to the knights and found Eric of Blackthorn and Dennor of Callitan waiting near the front of the army. “Have you seen Sir Araden of Grypha?”
“Nay,” said Eric “I saw him last near the Cleric’s house.”
“Thank you,” said Aractus. Aractus rode off as quickly as possible towards the Cleric’s houses. When he arrived he found Araden sitting just outside of the door.
“Your majesty!” said Araden, “There is something I must tell you!”
“Not now!” said Aractus, “Ready your horse, the enemy is upon us.”
“Very well,” said Araden.
Aractus returned to the road that the knights were assembled on and rode to the front. “We shall lead the charge together, my brave knights,” he said to Eric and Dennor.
Araden rode up to Aractus silently. “What shall I do, your majesty?” he asked.
“You shall lead the charge with us,” said Aractus.
Suddenly Elenas came running down the road towards Aractus. When he reached him he stopped and said “The red beasts are advancing through the forest...”
“Yes?!” said Aractus.
“There are too many...,” said Elenas, “It is my humble advice to you that we retreat, milord.”
“No,” said Aractus, “I will not let this town fall to the enemy!”
“Now move, good sir,” said Dennor in his low voice, “We must be ready to charge.”
“We are ready to charge,” said Eric.
Aractus unsheathed his sword and raised it into the air. “Charge!” he cried. The knights began riding with all speed towards the forest. As they entered the tangled underbrush, they were forced to swerve around fallen branches and trees. When they met the main portion of the red beasts, many were thrown from their saddles, but many more red beasts fell. Near the back of the attacking army there were many trolls and orcs. Aractus was knocked from his horse by a troll battle axe after slaying 4 red beasts. Eric, Dennor, and Araden dismounted to defend their king.
A muscular orc saw the fallen Aractus and charge towards him. It raised it’s crude longsword above it’s head, ready to strike, but then it died from a swift chop in the neck. Dennor watched the orc fall to the ground before he turned to face the gigantic troll behind him.
Trolls and orcs were similar creatures. Trolls were usually about 3 meters tall and very muscular with rough pale brown skin. Orcs are around the size of and average human, with dark green skin.
Eric stepped up at Dennor’s side to face the troll. The mighty troll dove at them, it’s crude battle axe swinging wildly. Eric attempted to knock the battle axe from it’s hand with his longsword but failed. Dennor charged the ugly beast with his steel greatsword in front of him. He thrusted his sword through the troll’s belly. The troll roared and ripped the sword out, it brought the battle axe down on Dennor, knocking him to the ground. Eric cleaved the troll’s right arm from it body, the battle axe fell to the ground. Araden came from behind the troll and impaled it through the back. The troll groaned and fell to the ground.

A long waveblade hit Bindan’s longsword with such strength that he almost dropped the sword. Bindan retaliated by bringing his sword down on the red beast’s head. The red beast fell to the ground.
Bindan and the royal guard continued moving towards the spot where they had seen King Aractus fall. Another red beast jumped towards Bindan, holding it’s waveblade in the air. The waveblade crashed down on Bindan’s sword, nearly forcing him to the ground. He knocked the waveblade aside and jabbed at the creature’s throat. He missed and the creature continued fighting. He swung his sword in a large arc. It hit the creature in the chest.
Bindan heard cries from behind him. He turned to see a large troll rampaging through the royal guard. He charged the beast but he was knocked away by it’s large fist. Bindan picked up his sword and shield and charged the beast again. He brought his sword down on the troll’s shoulder, only it was deflected by the troll’s crude shoulder pad. The troll turned to him and drew it’s battle axe in the air. It began running towards Bindan. It held it’s axe near to the ground and then swung up when it reached Bindan.
The axe hit the bottom of Bindan’s shield, causing it to fly into the air and Bindan to stumble backwards. He lifted his sword and held it in front of him. The troll charged him again, wildly swinging it’s battle axe. Bindan thrusted his sword through the troll’s neck. The troll gave a mangled cry and collapsed.
Bindan and the royal guard battled through the red beasts until they reached Eric, Dennor, Araden, and King Aractus. They had been battling fiercely and were now fatigued. Bindan and the royal guard encircled them. Four members of the royal guard had fallen against the troll.
A small group of orcs had seen the royal guard defending their king and attacked them. The orcs were easily defended off by the elite members of the royal guard. Two trolls had now noticed Aractus and charged towards him. One of the trolls brought down a bronze warhammer on one of the royal guards, crushing him. Bindan swung his sword but missed the troll. Dennor came to aid Bindan and impaled the troll with his longsword. The troll continued fighting, knocking Dennor to the ground.
Suddenly six arrows flew from the sky and struck one troll in the chest. Then Araden removed his helm and smiled. “Elenas and his rangers have come!” he cried. The blond haired Elenas and his rangers had climbed into the trees and were firing thier elven arrows from above. They had already slain several trolls and many orcs and red beasts. Another elven arrow killed the red beast in front of Dennor.
Eric heard cries from the north. He turned to see that the still mounted knights were charging again. Tearing through the ranks of red beasts and orcs like a knife tears through flesh. The red beasts began retreating southwards. The royal guard rejoiced, for the battle was near over. The footmen charged into the ranks of red beasts forcing them further back, and out of the forest. Some soldiers returned to Dilan but many stayed in the forest to sound the alarm if the red beasts returned.
Aractus returned to the stables and removed his armor. He saw Arkian walking up to him. “I suggest we leave,” said Arkian, “and begin our journey to Mio Del now.”
“I cannot leave these people to die!” said Aractus.
“I am sorry my friend, that is your only choice, I can leave a magical barrier, but it may not hold,” said Arkian.
Aractus closed his eyes and thought. “Very well,” he said “Call an assembly of the citizens of Dilan.”

Every single townsperson was assembled in the town square. King Aractus did not wish to do this but he had no other choice.
“My dear citizens of Dilan...,” he began, “I would like to thank you for your kindness and hospitality... I am sorry but I must leave... I must leave with my army to Mio Del. Arkian will leave a magical barrier with you...yet it may fail.”
Aractus stared forward into the air. Tears came into his eyes. “I am leaving you here at the mercy of Darxsis and his red beasts... I beg your forgiveness...”
“We will gladly stay here and take up arms against the red beasts!” said one of the townspeople, “We will hold out as long as we can to help your escape!”
“I thank you...” said Aractus, “As long as Ryoth still stands and I am still king... you will be honored... I thank you...”
Aractus returned to the farmhouse that he was staying in and wept. Bindan came to his side. “Do not grieve, my good king,” he said “The people of Dilan decided to stay here. They want to serve their king.”
“I am leaving them here to die!” said Aractus sadly, “I do not wish to do such things.”
“We are leaving soon,” said Bindan, “Let us go.”
King Aractus grieved much before he could be convinced to leave Dilan. They left many weapons for the citizens of Dilan to defend themselves with. They thanked the citizens and began marching, north, towards Mio Del.
Mio Del was a huge fortress, second only to Arnon. Now that Arnon had fallen to the enemy, Mio Del was the safest place in Ryoth. There were no paths leading in or out of Dilan, so they were forced to journey through the forest. Mio Del was near thirty leagues from Dilan, so the army would be journeying for three days at best.
Eric of Blackthorn rode up beside Aractus and spoke to him. “Your Majesty,” said Eric, “If Dilan falls to the enemy, the red beasts will surely follow us.”
“Then we must pick up our pace,” said Aractus, “I hope to reach the Berin Fords by nightfall.”
The elven Rangers of Mithelas each rode a thin, elven bred horse. Araden was not riding his black warhorse, but a grey horse named Renief. Elenas rode at the front of the army with the rangers, leading the army through the forests. Araden rode beside Elenas, speaking to him in Elven. Araden was not wearing his silver greathelm, but a helm with a statue of a black crow on the top of it.
Eric of Blackthorn was wearing no helm, only his body armor. Dennor wore a grey greathelm and heavy armor. Felin the mage was wearing white robes. He rode beside Aractus. Arkian rode near the back of the army, wearing violet robes. All of the elven rangers were clad in brown cloaks and green tunics.
Aractus turned towards Elenas and Araden to see that Elenas was not there. Aractus rode up to Araden. “Where is Elenas?” he asked.
“I do not know,” said Araden, “He said that he was riding behind to be sure that we were not being followed.”
“I see,” said Aractus, “Tell me if he returns.”
Aractus rode back to his place between Felin and Eric. Dennor rode behind Felin. Dennor removed his helm, letting his long black hair wave in the air.
There was a small area where many trees had fallen. The army was forced to turn back and move around the fallen trees. While turning, Aractus saw smoke rising from behind them...from Dilan. There was a dreadful feeling in his heart, yet Aractus pushed on.
After riding for an hour more, cries came from the back of the army. Elenas had returned. His elven cloak was ripped and tattered. “It seems that your spell has failed,” he said to Arkian, “The red beasts have overrun Dilan and I fear they may be following us.” At this Aractus wept. For he had left the villagers of Dilan behind to die.
Bindan comforted him by telling him that the villagers chose to stay behind. Still, Aractus grieved.
“Though we may not have reached the Fords of Berin, we must camp here and ready our weapons,” Aractus said to the army, “For I fear we are being followed and I would rather be attacked while fortified than moving.”
The army set up tents and created temporary walls out of hay and wooden beams from trees that they had chopped down. The wall was about ten meters tall. It surrounded the entire camp. The archers leaned ladders against the wall and posted themselves upon it. The Rangers of Mithelas exited the camp and scouted the surrounding area.
At nightfall Aractus looked out of his tent and saw Araden standing near the wall. Araden was wearing his silver greathelm. Aractus called out, “Come, Sir Araden, I would like to speak to you.”
Araden entered the tent and sat down in a small wooden chair. “Yes, Your Majesty?” said Araden.
“Before the battle at Dilan, there was something you wished to tell me,” said Aractus.
Araden closed his eyes for a moment, drew a deep breath and said, “I must tell you of my heritage. My father was a knight, a very brave and loyal knight. His name was Clariden of Grypha.” Araden’s mouth hung open. “He was loyal to only one king, he was a loyal knight of Darxsis.” Araden closed his eyes and bowed before Aractus.
“You must disband me from your sight, Your Majesty,” said Araden, “I am not trustworthy enough to be in your presence.”
“I will do no such thing, my friend,” said Aractus, “If it were not for you, I would be dead, and Ryoth destroyed.”
“Your majesty, I do not wish to kill you, but I fear that Darxsis may have some power over me.”

“Fear no such thing,” said Aractus.
“You should rely on the more trustworthy knights of your own kingdom, Eric of Blackthorn, perhaps.”
“I do trust him, as do I trust you,” said Aractus, “Now let us hear more of your history, why you were raised by elves?”
“I was abandoned in a forest near the borders of Mithelas. I was found by Raorse, the father of Elenas. He was like a father to me, as Elenas was my brother. I was left only with the armor of my father, with the inscription, Grypha, on it. I was given the elven name Araden, for I did not not know my human name, and I still do not, for my father is dead. I was raised to be the only knight of Mithelas, as elves do not have knights. I journeyed near the borders of Mithelas with my stepbrother, Elenas, who had become the Captain of the rangers of Mithelas, for many years. When we saw the great army of orcs and red beasts marching into Ryoth, we followed them. And that is how we rescued you and your royal guards.”
“And for that you will surely receive awards when we reach Mio De-”
A long high pitched cry pierced the air. It nearly deafened all who heard it. The sound did not come from a human. Aractus also heard human cries in the distance.
“The enemy is upon us,” said Aractus, “Let us go.”
Several archers had fallen from the wall in fear, for the sight that they saw was not a red beast, but a black beast. It’s long, thin arms were nearly 2 meters long. Four meters tall, it was. Armor like skin covered the creature. It seemed that no weapon could penetrate the armor. The beast opened it’s abyss-like mouth and let out another long, high pitched cry.
By some sort of fiendish art, the wooden walls burst into flame, archers leaping from them, crying in fear. Red beasts walked through the flaming wall and into the army of Ryoth. The flame did not seem to affect the red beasts in any way. The troll warriors stayed outside the flaming circle to slay any escaping humans.
Aractus drew his royal longsword as the royal guard came to his side. The flames surrounded the camp too closely, and it was difficult to move, so no horses were used. Bindan saw Dennor, Eric, and several other knights charge into battle on foot. Bindan had already slain two red beasts when the great black creature entered the flaming circle. It let out another cry and the battle seemed to pause. Many soldiers collapsed on the ground clutching their ears. The red beasts continued fighting, visciously killing the soldiers disabled by the creature’s cry.
The black beast stepped towards Aractus and Bindan moved to defend him. Bindan ordered three members of the royal guard to charge the beast. The beast drew a longsword, surrounded by a pale white light. The sword had prongs protruding from the blade ends of the sword. The creature easily dodged the guards weapons and killed two of them immediately after the charge. The third guard continued fighting. The black beast gave a swift stroke through the guard’s chest that barely pierced his skin. The guard stared at the beast for a moment and then collapsed.
Bindan knew that a small wound like that from a normal weapon would have killed no man. He must keep the beast’s accursed weapon from piercing his flesh. Bindan charged forward, holding his longsword in front of him. The beast swung it’s sword upward, causing Bindan to nearly drop his sword. Bindan brought his sword down on the creature’s shoulder to no prevail. The sword did not even pierce the creature’s armor-like skin. The creature swung it’s sword, the flat end hitting Bindan in the hand.
Bindan’s hand began to burn. It was getting warmer and warmer, until Bindan could stand it no more. Bindan screamed in pain and dropped his sword. His hand seared with pain. Then his vision became dimmer, and he could see no longer.
Without their captain, the royal guard started to back away, leaving King Aractus unprotected.
Now four royal guards had been slain, Aractus would stand for this no longer. He held his sword in front of him and faced the beast. Elven bows sang and arrow bounced of off the creature’s hide. “Your majesty, you must not-” said one of the guards.
Aractus did not answer, he only pushed the guard away and stepped towards the beast. The creature dove towards Aractus and nearly struck him with the sword. Aractus brought his sword down on the creature with no prevail. The creature brought it’s sword around and struck Aractus in the side. The sword did not pierce Aractus’ armor, but the armor turned white and began to melt. Aractus cried out in surprise and fell to the ground.

The creature stepped up to the fallen Aractus and stared down at him, holding it’s sword up to him. Aractus stared back into the black holes that were it’s eyes, the holes that seemed to lead into nothingness. Then the creature spoke to him, though the words did not come from it’s mouth. The darkness the creature’s eyes enveloped him, and swallowed him up. Aractus could not see, all he saw was the creature and blackness. You did not accept the offer, Aractus, said the creature, That was your undoing.
Then a horn call awaked Aractus from the nightmarish trance. “The Prince is come!” cried the soldiers, “Prince Aires is come!”
Aractus heard the horn call again, and then heard the galloping of horses. The black beast looked up to see a young, blond haired man on a white horse galloping towards him, followed by many Ryothian knights. The Prince was wearing silver elven armor that none had seen him wear before. The knights that followed him came from Mio Del, as shown by the markings on their armor. Prince Aires charged towards the black beast as quickly as possible, his green eyes flaming. His lance snapped as it hit the beast’s flesh.
Aires was knocked to the ground by the mighty arm of the Beast. As Aires hit the ground, he stood up and move in front of his father. Aires drew his sword and held in front of him. The Knight’s from Mio Del rode into the horde of Red Beasts, tearing through their ranks.
The Black Beast took a step towards Aires, it’s dark blade shining dully. Aires charged towards the beast and attempted to bring his sword down on the beast’s head. The Black Beast deflected this well placed blow with it’s sword. The beast knocked the sword from Aires’ hand with his fist. Aires took a step back, moving towards his sword which had landed 3 meters away. The Black Beast hit Aires twice, once on each side of his chest. The elven armor protected him but Aires was knocked to the ground once more.
The Black Beast lifted it’s sword into the air, ready to bring it down on Aires. Aractus tried to stand up, but his ribs were burning with pain.
Suddenly there was a blinding white flash and a bolt of energy hit the beast. It howled in pain and stepped back. Aractus turned to see Arkian holding his staff in front of himself.
“Begone!” said Arkian.
The Black Beast glowered at him.
“Return to your realm of darkness!” cried Arkian.
The Black Beast took a step backwards and let out another high pitched scream. The army of Red Beast instantly turned and ran into the darkness of the forest, and the Black Beast followed them.
Aractus slowly stood and walked towards Arkian. Several soldiers returned to the camp and helped the wounded, while many gripped their weapons, readied for another attack. When Aractus met Arkian, the gloom in Arkian’s eyes seemed to darken the already black sky.
“What was that creature?” said Aractus, traces of the strange trance still lingered in his mind.
“I do not know,” said Arkian, “But I fear that this was one of the fell captains of Grelnic spoken of in the books of your ancestors.”
The books of Gregoris told of his battle against Grelnic. The Captains of Grelnic numbered few, five at the most, no one knew. The captains were very powerful and none had been killed by the armies of Ryoth or Leoroth in the days of Gregoris. The Captains had disappeared with Darxsis.
“It was by pure chance that I was able to fend of that beast,” said Arkian, “It’s power is much greater than mine.”
“You must come to my tent,” said Aractus, “Now.”
They walked towards Aractus’ tent and spoke.
“Darxsis truly has returned,” said Aractus, “And in greater power than before.”
“The cause of this is the Relinis Crystal,” He can communicate with his fell captains from many leagues away and he can summon up vicious demons from the underworld.”
“The Red Beasts?” asked Aractus worriedly as they entered the tent.
“Yes,” said Arkain.
“We are battling an unwinnable war,” said Aractus.
Someone was outside, moving towards the tent. The tent flap opened and Aractus saw his son, Aires’, face peering through the opening.
“Father, I must speak with you,” He said.

“Come in, my son, I have many questions for you,” answered Aractus.
There was a grave look on Aires’ face as he entered the tent. “Why are you not in Mio Del?” Aractus asked, “Dark times have come upon us and I wish you to be as safe as possible.”
“I will tell you, but first you must answer me,” said Aires, “Did you accept the offer after Arnon was destroyed?”
“Nay,” answered Aractus.
“Then I bring you horrible news,“ said Aires, “Bargoth, the Lord and ruler of Mio Del has accepted the offer. He swore to me that he would use the shard’s power to defeat Darxsis but he has not kept his promise. The shard had changed Bargoth. I feared the worst. I continually told Bargoth to destroy the shard, but he refused. He forced me and the portion of knights that believed what I did out of the city.”
Aractus’ eyes opened very wide and his jaw hung open. “We were attacked by orcs upon leaving the city. We had nearly fallen when we were rescued by elves from Mithelas. They supplied us with horses and new armor,” he said, pointing towards his silver elven plate mail, “We were journeying to many of the bordering towns of Arnon, searching for survivors. We came to Dilan to find it burning and inhabited by orcs and trolls. We defeated them and saved the villagers that we could. Some of them spoke of you staying at Dilan for several days and of your departure. I rejoiced at new of you alive, but worried when I was told of the strange Red Beasts following you. We left with haste near the beginning of the evening. Then we came upon you.”
“So Mio Del has fallen to the enemy...” Aractus murmed, looking at the ground.
Aires did not say anything, he only bowed his head.
That's the first chapter. Yes, I know it's corny and I rush to the battles to quickly. I'm planning on re-writing a better draft of it.

II
Mithelas
By noon they had reached the Berin Ford. The footmen and knights passed the river easily, but the supply carts continued to tip over, depleting their storage of food. Less than an hour later, they had passed through the forest and entered the valley of Esmoss. Aractus stopped at a tall cliff, overlooking the green valley and it’s waterfalls to speak with one of his advisors, Feriden.
“We have counted the number of survivors, and determined the approximate number of casualties of the battle last night,” said Feriden.
“Yes?” said Aractus.
“One thousand of our 2,500 knights are dead,” said Feriden, “I am afraid less than five hundred footmen were left standing. Though many footmen fell, nearly all of our bowmen are alive.”
“Thank you,” said Aractus, “And what news of the Royal Guard?”
“Three guards were killed, and Captain Bindan...” Feriden stopped speaking with his jaw open, “Captain Bindan was at first thought to be dead, but when he was brought to the healers they detected the slightest trace of life within his veins. We have converted a supply cart into a small place where he can rest. Captain Bindan is still unconscious. The healers are not sure if he will survive.”
Aractus took a deep breath and said, “Thank you, Feriden, please have Felin brought to me.
Aractus looked over to Sunburst, his horse who was tied to a stake less than ten meters away. He then turned to look at the scenic valley. Many trees grew on the steep cliffs. There where also waterfalls that turned into streams that wound down the cliff.
“Your majesty,” Felin’s voice startled him. Aractus turned around to see Felin dressed in violet robes that barely touched the ground. Felin had just dismounted from a brown horse that was standing at his side. “You called for me?”
“Yes,” said Aractus, “Prince Aires came with grave news last night. He was forced out of Mio Del by Lord Bargoth, ruler of Mio Del.”
“But why?” asked Felin.
“Derend Bargoth accepted the offer from the Demon Beasts of Darxsis,” said Aractus.
Felin gasped.
Aractus continued, “Aires pushed him to refuse the offer but Bargoth did not listen. The crystal shard has changed him. Mio Del has fallen to the enemy and I suspect that as soon as Bargoth discovers that I am alive, as he believes that I died in the battle at Arnon, He will attack us. I plan to take back Mio Del as soon as we arrive, whether we are forced to slay our own soldiers or not.”

A worried look came into Felin’s eyes. “We would kill our own kindred?” he said.
Aractus looked down, “I am afraid so. I Bargoth truly has accepted the offer he will have the army at Mio Del attack us.”
“Very well,” said Felin.
“Tell no soul of what we spoke,” said Aractus, “The only ones who know are Aires, Arkian, Eric of Blackthorn, Dennor of Calliton, and Elenas Treebreeze. Araden of Grypha has refused to let me speak to him of anything important. He does not wish anyone to know why. The knights from Mio Del that came with my son also know of this, but they have been told to keep the secret. I do not wish the army to know until we arrive for they may become fearful.”
“Very well,” said Felin.
Felin mounted his horse and began riding back to the other side of the valley, where the army was waiting.
Aractus looked up to the sky to see but one white cloud in the sky. Shaped in a perfect circle it seemed, moving slowly through the sky.
Suddenly, a dark feeling came over Aractus. His body became cold and numb. The cloud above had turned black and hideous. Aractus began to shiver. He shut his eyes. Less than a second later, the feeling passed. He felt that somewhere, someone had accepted Darxsis’ offer.

June 25th,2002, 07:52 PM
The army set off less then an hour later. They passed through the valley shortly and came to a small, uncharted forest. It seemed dark and evil within, yet Aractus wished the army to continue forward. There were no strange events while they were in the forest. They left shortly and entered another valley named Arses. The Valley of Arses was filled with trees and bushes, similar to Esmoss. Arses had a large river, Ralsis, that flowed from the West, flowing through it. They traveled at the bottom of the valley, alongside the River Ralsis.
Shortly after, they came across the remains of a battle. There were many elven bodies strewn about. It seemed that and elven patrol, straying from Mithelas, had come under attack by the Red Beasts and some Ryothian Knights. Aractus was horrified that Bargoth was sending Ryothian soldiers into battle with Red Beasts against Ryoth’s eternal allies, the elves. They stopped to bury the bodies the their elven friends.
“The elves will surely declare war on us when they receive news of this,” said Aractus. Aractus sat down and thought for long and then came to a decision.
“We will journey East to Mithelas and greet our elven friends and speak to them of the horrible news that we carry,” said Aractus, “And if the Red Beasts attacked an elven patrol, Queen Salen surely has not accepted the offer.”
Though many believed that they should not squander there time by journeying to Mithelas, Aractus had the army begin marching East, to the forest of Mithelas.
Night came near the borders of Mithelas. The nearest elven city was Khaysaris, a small village that housed one of the elite groups of elven rangers that patrolled near the borders of Mithelas. Aractus decided that the army would journey to Khaysaris for food and supplies and then journey to the elven capitol of Rasania.
In the middle of the night, Aractus was awakened from a strange dream by cries in the campground. He exited his tent to see four royal guards circled around a slain Red Beast.
“It was found in one of our food supply carts,” said one of the guards.
“Is it alive?” asked Aractus.
“Nay,” said the guard, “There were two more but they escaped. We only managed to kill this one.”
“Darxsis has found us,” said Aractus, “He will surely follow me until I am dead.”
Something made a coughing noise behind Aractus. He spun around to see Arkian, leaning on his staff.
“What do you want?” asked Aractus.
“Captain Bindan has awakened from his dark sleep,” said Arkian, “He wishes to see you.”
Aractus followed Arkian to a small tent where Bindan was resting. “Your Majesty...” Bindan spoke in a hoarse voice, “A dream... a dark dream...”
Aractus frowned. “Yes?”
“You must find safety... return to Mio Del...” Bindan fell back onto his cot and closed his eyes. Then Bindan spoke in a strange voice. The voice of the Captain of Grelnic.
You did not accept the offer, Aractus. That was your undoing. Aractus saw a cloaked figure walking down a flight of stairs. A loud pulsating noise reverberated through the halls. Then Aractus heard the Captain’s voice continue, Darxsis will find you Aractus. He will not stop searching until you are dead. The cloaked man reached two large wooden doors. They opened before him to reveal a vast room with a tall staircase that led up into blackness in the center of it. The noise was louder. It seem to make the room shake. The figure began to slowly climb the stairway. Darxsis will find you... Aractus saw a bright violet light at the top of the staircase. When the cloaked figure reached the top Aractus saw something that filled him with dread. The Crystal a Relinis. A huge crystal, two meters in diameter stood in the middle of the room. The violet crystal filled the room with a bright light. Aractus’ head was pounding with the pulsating noise emanating from the crystal. The figure began to walk towards the crystal. Darxsis will find you... It placed it’s hand of the crystal. And destroy you.
“Your Majesty!”
Aractus looked up to see Arkain staring down at him.
“Your majesty,” repeated Arkian “Are you all right?”
“Yes...,” said Aractus, “I am fine.” Aractus sat up.
“What happened?” asked Arkian urgently.
“I do not know,” answered Aractus.

June 25th,2002, 07:53 PM
The next morning the army set off into Mithelas. They encountered no elves in the first few hours. “How far are we from Khaysaris?” Aractus asked Araden.
“Six or seven leagues...,” answered Araden, “I would guess that we would arrive in less than three hours.”
“Yes,” said Aractus “Are there not elven rangers patrolling in this area?”
“Yes,” said Araden, “Yet we have not seen any. I do not know the answer to this.”
After nearly two hours they had encountered a small group of elven rangers. At first the rangers were ready to attack the Ryothian army, for they believed that all of Ryoth had joined Darxsis. Aractus told them of Deandor Bargoth, ruler of Mio Del, and of how he accepted the offer. Yet the elves did not believe him until Sir Araden and Captain Elenas Treebreeze stepped forth and spoke with their elven companions. The elven patrol agreed to lead the Ryothians to Khaysaris, but then they must return to patrol around the border.
Aractus spoke with the Captain of the patrol whose name was Arbolas.
“Tell me of the the events in Mithelas,” asked Aractus, for I have not received word from many of our allies since the destruction of Arnon.”
“I regret to tell you that the Great Alliance has fallen apart because of the return of Darxsis,” said Arbolas, “Many of the friendly Kingdoms that were allied with has have joined Darxsis. Even the fair kingdom of Nearsis has joined Darxsis. King Ranius of Nearsis has become a captain of Darxsis. Ryoth and Mithelas are the only two kingdoms that did not accept the offer. We believe that Leoroth did not accept because they were one of the greatest enemies of Darxsis in the olden days, but we have not received word from King Derinis.”
The Great Alliance was formed after Darxsis’ fall. Many of the kingdoms joined together in an alliance against evil. It was thought to be indestructible until Darxsis returned. Many of the mightier kingdoms joined Darxsis for the power of the Crystal of Relinis. Once more than half of the Alliance had joined Darxsis, Darxsis attacked and destroyed many kingdoms. With the power of his armies shown, even more kingdoms joined him.
“I see,” said Aractus.
“When the Ahysarin , or, as you seem to call them Red Beasts, came, Queen Salen refused their offer, hoping that you and many other kings and queens would refuse too.”
“When soldiers from Mio Del attacked many of our armies, Queen Salen feared that you had accepted the offer and that Mithelas was the only reminent of the great Alliance. She was almost feared the worst when Sir Araden of Grypha, Mithelas’ only knight, and Elenas Treebreeze, one of our greatest Captains, disappeared while patrolling near Ryoth, she feared that you had attacked and slain them. But now you come here with them and I trust you to be an ally of Mithelas.”
“Thank you,” said Aractus, “I will speak to Queen Salen when we journey to Rasania.”
“I fear that Queen Salen will not believe you when you reach Rasania, but Elenas will surely convince her,” said Arbolas.
Prince Aires rode up beside Aractus, “Father,” he said.
“This is my son, Aires,” Aractus said to Arbolas, “Yes?”
“I wish to speak to you,” said Aires.
“Can you wait, my son?” said Aractus, “I must speak with sir Arbolas.”
Prince Aires nodded and became silent.
“How far is it to Khaysaris?” He said.
“Less than a league,” said Arbolas, “I fear I will be leaving you soon. It was interesting speaking with you King Aractus. Isalis Aidian, farewell in elven.”
Arbolas rode back to the main portion of his elven patrol.
“Father?” said Aires.
“Yes?”
“I heard you and Arkian speaking last night,” said Aires, “About Captain Bindan. Is he going to live?”
“The clerics believed so until now,” said Aractus, “It seems that some traces of the Captain of Grelnic are still within his soul. Last night I went to see Bindan. He spoke to me in the voice of the captain. I had a vision of the crystal of Relinis.”
“What is this crystal?” asked Aires, “And why has a shard of it corrupted Deandor Bargoth? And who is Darxsis?”
“Surely you remember the tales of your great grandfather, Gregoris,” said Aractus.
“Why yes, I do remember such tales, but not in great detail,” said Aires, “Please tell me of them.”
Aractus told Aires of King Gregoris and of his heroic battle against the evil forces of Darxsis alongside King Friden of Leoroth. He told him of Darxsis’ fall and of how Darxsis disappeared and was never found.
“And what of the crystal of Relinis?” asked Aires.
“I am afraid I know very little of this crystal, only that it has immense power and the ability to corrupt even the purest souls,” said Aractus, “To find more you should ask Arkian of Felin the mage.”
“I see,” said Aires, “And that is why Lord Bargoth has changed. By accepting the offer he has joined Darxsis without him knowing it.”
“Yes, my son,” said Aractus, “I fear that we are entering dark times, even darker than the days of King Gregoris. Darxsis has only shown us the power of his armies and not yet the power of the crystal.”
Aires nodded.
In a short time they had reached Khaysaris. They wished Arbolas and his rangers luck as they set off. King Aractus and the army set up camp just outside of Khaysaris. It had been decided that the next day, Elenas and his rangers would lead Aractus, Aires and the royal guard along the swiftest path to Rasania. The army, led by Eric of Blackthorn, would be guided along a larger but slower path by Araden of Grypha. The army would arrive at Rasania just as Aractus and Queen Salen of Mithelas had finished their councils and then Aractus and the army would journey to Mio Del.
Aractus slept easily that night, not to be awakened until it was time to set off.
Aractus bid farewell to Eric and the army. Although the Royal Guard was journeying with Aractus, Bindan was with the army because of his illness. Elenas led Aractus and the royal guards through Khaysaris and towards the path.
“Tell me of this path we are taking, Sir Elenas,” said Aractus.
“It is called the Eses Pathos, or Wind Trail. It leads to the North for seven leagues and then turns East. It continues Eastward for two leagues and then North for another twenty leagues and reaches Rasania. It should take us no more than five days.”
“And the path that the army is taking?” said Aractus.
“That path is much larger, but slower,” said Elenas, “If we were to lead the army down the Wind Trail we would be slowed very much.”
They reached the edge of the town and set off on the trail. It was a dirt path that winded through the trees and bushes of the elven forest. Elenas sent the elven rangers into the forest to see if they were being followed. In a short time they returned with no news. They continued down the path for the rest of the day. They came upon a small elven rune carved in the trunk of a tree.

“What is this mark?” asked Aractus.
“It is a letter in elven,” said Elenas, “When rangers have passed over an area, they leave a mark like this one to show that they have patroled this area.”
They continued through the day and the journey was uneventful. When night came they camped alongside the path. Elenas’ rangers stood guard over the camp while Aractus, Aires, and Elenas spoke over the campfire.
“Arbolas spoke of the Great Alliance,” said Aractus, “It has nearly been destroyed by Darxsis. It seems that Ryoth and Mithelas are the only kingdoms of the alliance that have not fallen to Darxsis.”
“Do you believe him, father?” asked Aires.
“Arbolas is a trustworthy soul,” said Elenas, “He would not be a Captain of Mithelas if he was not.”
“I fear that he is correct,” said Aractus, “Even Nearsis and Krinedo have joined Darxsis. It is possible that Leoroth has either joined Darxsis of fallen to his armies.”
“King Derinis would do no such thing!” said Aires, “He would not join the forces of Grelnic!”
“Even the purest souls would join him for the power of the Crystal,” said Aractus.
“Can we win this war?” asked Aires.
“I am afraid not,” said Aractus, “Yet war may not be the answer. We have to hold out as long as we can.”
The walked to their tents and rested as the elven rangers stood guard over the camp.
Aractus awakened in the early morning and decided to continue their journey. Elenas awaked Prince Aires and the set of on the path.
Near noon they encountered a group of traveling elven merchants. They spoke with them for a short time. The elves told them of Darxsis’ attacks on Mithelas. Apparently Darxsis’ had attacked Mithelas several times after Queen Salen refused the offer. All of the attacks had been small and unsuccessful. They bid the merchants farewell and departed.
“So Darxsis is attacking Mithelas,” said Elenas, “I fear that Mithelas does not have the armies it had three generations ago. Mithelas may fall to Grelnic if Darxsis truly has armies large enough to destroy Arnon.”
“Ryoth may also fall, yet we will battle to the end and we will not stop until Darxsis has fallen,” said Aractus.
“I hope so,” said Elenas.
They continued until nightfall when hey stopped near a small river to rest. They planned to journey through the night in order to reach Rasania by the next day. Elenas caught a large fish and cooked it for them to eat.
“If the armies of Grelnic can destroy Arnon, Darxsis must be very powerful,” said Elenas, “Yet he has this much damage and has not even shown us the power of the crystal.”
“That is true,” said Aractus.
“But if Darxsis is as powerful as you say, Ryoth and Mithelas may not even stand a chance!” said Aires.
“Possibly,” said Aractus, “Yet it is possible that we can win though the chances are very slim. I am going to have victory no matter the cost.”
“I am sure Queen Salen is thinking as you do,” said Elenas as he removed the fish from over the fire.
“Father, what will happen if Darxsis destroys Ryoth and Mithelas,” asked Aires.
“I do not know,” said Aractus, “And I do not wish to find out.”
“Let us eat,” said Elenas, “and forget about such worries for now.”
The meal was excellent and they spoke not of Darxsis, but of the past and happier times. They set out immediatly after they finished the meal and continued down the path.
That's all so far.

Might want to explain a bit more about Mio Del when it is first mentioned at the council, or even before.
