I don't believe everything we hear about the movie is true......I seriously doubt Peter Jackson would change that many things: Shelob, The Scouring, Saruman's spikey wheel-thing, Wormtongue's part, and now Faramir? No, I don't believe it. These are rumours made simply to get us talking about it and its a publicity stunt, because loko how worked up we're getting?
No, I am skeptic......and I hope I'm right, because I would be ****ED if all those things were changed....

Well these are quoted from the movie guide books. We will know today.......
Also I hear Aragorn is seen to be killed in the Warg attack. Then apears dramatically ala the big doors opening......soon find out folks. :-)
I hope the Faramir thing is false. THough he did warn us expect huge changes to the book.

this is terrible, i agree with you Ash :( they are on drugs.
if they do, i'll... i'l... i'll only watch the movie once!!!! grrr
i know what you mean! they seem to be mutilating it. how can they say TTT is going to be better than FotR with ALL of these changes going to happen??mecry
maybe brindlescruff is right... *sniffs* maybe they really wont do it... one can always hope... can't one?
i really really really hope the Faramir thing is false as well... what do they want to do, invent a character and name him after Tolkien's character???

OMG!!! :elfeek: How could this possibly be accurate?! If these rumors are true, I'm going to insane! :verymad:
Faramir wanting the ring?! Aragorn is seen being killed by Wargs in TTT?! How is this possible?! pfbbt
Well, it think it's reported that Aragorn appears to be killed, so he'll most likely fight his way out of the attack. :battle: So, I shouldn't worry too much over that. Besides, how could their be ROTK without the king? :king:
In either case, these speculations better be false! Especially with Faramir.

November 6th,2002, 05:24 PM
Well they said there was a flashforward scene with Arwen at Aragorn's grave so maybe that's just a part of that... but in any case this should NOT happen!!, seeing as how he doesn't get killed by Wargs anyway

OMG... I hope it is not true...Faramir did not even think about getting the Ring..His character is supposed to be better than Boromir, why should PJ touch the essence of Faramir character...... *telling myself* It is a rumor, it is only rumors*
Well,RingB you are right about Arwen being at Aragorn's grave it is only a vision...Remember guys in the trailer when we heard her say to Elrond something like "You have the gift of foreseeing, tell me what you saw" I just hope that everything is a vision :(
Maybe..PJ and the staff have a dyslexia problem so that would explain the mutilation of the book if rumors are true  ...

I don't know these questions have already been addressed but I got the Lord of the Rings Two Towers Photo Guide this morning.
Hereafter are major *****SPOILERS*****, so if you don't want to know, don't read this. (this assumes the book is accurate.)
Per the book, the story opens with Frodo having a nightmare. Seems to indicate Frodo dreams about Moria and Gandalf and the Balrog. I wonder if Gandalf's fall in Frodo's dream will be the "big plunge" we've heard will open the movie?
The next part that caught my attention as being different from the book is a part that appears to show that Treebeard is who rescues Merry and Pippin from Grishnakh. "Fleeing into Fangorn Forest, the two hobbits are chased by the angry Grishnakh...An unexpected ally comes to their rescue. "What are you?" "I am an Ent. Treebeard, some call me." (photo of Treebeard we saw a few days ago).
Wargs attack the refugees heading for Helms Deep. Aragorn battles "Sharku", an Orc mounted on a Warg. He falls, is assumed dead.
Sam and Frodo meet Rangers of Ithilien. They are blindfolded and taken to Faramir. Here's one of the strange parts:
"Learning that Boromir was one of the Fellowship, the Rangers' leader, Faramir, hears shocking new. "You were a friend of Boromir's? It would grieve you, then, to learn that he is dead?" This quote is unattributed in the Photo Guide. In the book, of course, Faramir says it to test Frodo. The Photo Guide makes it seem like Frodo is telling Faramir this. But how would Frodo know?!!
Then the Photo Guide says "Learning of the One Ring, he [Faramir] vows to take the Ring to Gondor and complete Boromir's mission." I hope this is not accurate...
Meanwhile, Aragorn is reported dead to Eowyn, by Gimli and Legolas. Aragorn, of course, is just badly wounded and comes across Brego in the wild. Then returns to Helms Deep in time for the battle.
I've given away a ton already, so I will only say that while Faramir does come to his senses, the rumor that they go to Osgiliath is true and appears the thing about the sewers is true, too. If anyone wants to know more, ask me in a private message.

mecry mecry mecry mecry
This makes me sad! THEY'RE MAD I SAY, MAD!!!!!!!
seriously, what's the DANG-BUSTED point in sending them to Osgiliath??? last time I looked, Ogiliath hadn't been "under siege" for a while, or not yet.
Hmmm...the thing Wargs attacking the fleeing refugees would explain Eowyn's line "They had no warning". Well! But..grrrrrrrrrrrr......this is confusing!!!!!!!!!!! STICK WITH THE BOOK! Gosh, don't they know how much more simple the book is? It's straightforward, simple, kept everyone in their respective groups (for the most part). It doesn't involve Wargs and dreams and possessed Faramirs.
THEY ARE ON DRUGS. does anyone feel like storming PJ's headquarters and stealing the film copies and doing our own, PROPER version: TOLKIEN'S! *grabs her sword* :battle:
Do you suppose Master Tolkien is turning in his grave? I wouldn't be surprised.
Feel free to hit me with a trout, or pour a bucket of water on my head. Or join my cause to fix TT!! *jumps on horse with her sword* :brave:
or just hand me a pint.

You know, Ash, I have to really agree with you. Tolkien's book provides a perfectly straightforward plot line. There's little reason to include wargs, stray refugees, elves at Helm's Deep, or to go to Osgiliath until ROTK. Much less mucking about with Faramir's wanting the Ring or hobbits in sewers.
I do wonder, though, if this Photo Guide is completely accurate. It had to be written some months ago and the final edit of the movie was not finished until just recently.
And I thought that the part where it seems Frodo is telling Faramir about Boromir's death might simply be the Photo Guide's author not being very familiar with the material.
Oh, well. The photos are still amazing. And I still cannot wait to see this movie.

well guys, just take a look at the Photo Guide for FotR, it will give you some comfort. (in a way)
it contains so many mistakes that didn't really come into the movie.
for example:
...and all the rings of the dwarves were safely sequestered...the movie makes no mention of this... so this error doesnt fall into the movie...
With his [Isildur's] death, the race of men was left kingless, and since that time has dwindled and split into different factions and tribes: the Easterlings and the Haradrim... the Rohirrim, and the Gondorians... Never since the fall of Isildur have the people of Gondor taken another king. since when did they split after Isidur's death... and no king after Isildur? (and since when was Isildur Gondor's High King... but we can't get into that ;))
Orphaned as a child, Aragorn...since when is over 50 a child?
SInce the fall of Isidur... the Gondorians have taken no king...again!
...and Gondorian warriors have perpetually had to fight off incursions of Orcs and other... fell creaturesbut only recently ;)(...this refers to since the time of Isildur's death)
Following the war... of the Second Age, the Dwarves... retreated... into their mountain kingdom and closed their doors on the world, so that where before there was friendship and trade..., there has since been... hostility between the Elves and the Dwarves. since when did their troubles originate in the Second Age?
and still... despite this rediculous movie guide... they didn't screw up the FotR movie (IMO). so there's still hope yet

Well, I don't like all the changes I am hearing about. But I know I will probibly like the movie a lot anyway! I mean, we all liked the first one even with all it's changes from the book (Frodo and Sam meeting Merry and Pippin in Farmer Maggot's field; Cutting out the entire Tom Bombadil scene, which I'm glad they did, and Aragorn giving the Hobbits their swords. And of course, how can I leave out replacing Glorfindel with Arwen! Plus many others) But we all still liked the movie enough to see it over and over and to buy both versions of the DVD! I'm sure we are going to like the TTT too.
All that said . . . I'm still MAD!!

Well if it was what we expected... on the book with only the few changes we already knew of... there'd never have been this thread... and all this attention (-;
Let's just hope it's another advertisement trick

Sorry if i am being ignorant, but where do you find these pictures? I'm talking about that photo guide which you've spoken of. an url would be much welcome!
And if these romours are to be true, then i am truly heartbroken. As a Tolkien fan i've been waiting for this upcoming movie with a huge anticipation. But now when i read this, i doubt it'll live up to my expectations, which was not THAT high anyway since the fellowhip was a bit of a dissapointment. (The theatrical ver.). Damn i really get angry. Right now i wish i could speak to PJ and question him about this. And if it is true, then ARRGH, i'd tell him to run and hide.

This is grave news, yes, and I am quite confused. Why would PJ make all these changes? Why would Christopher Lee let him? Didn't all the crew who where major LOTR fans say that we would be pleased? If they did make these changes, they better have thought up something EXTREMELY amazing to relieve us of the similarities they are cheating the movie to the book out of. I'd have to say Gollum is awesome, and Helms Deep sounds great, but they are going to have a lot more to keep me happy!
Hobbits in sewers!?!/ Where is the respect!?
And Treebeard saves Merry and Pippin!? I wanted to see their bravery....
I won't even start on the Faramir and Frodo thing...verymad

This is the Photo Guide to the Two Towers movie. It's a book just released yesterday. I got it at Barnes and Noble, but it's available online at Amazon.com, too. Hope that answers your questions.

You should see the wailing and gnashing of teeth going on over this at another website I've seen. In the end, it's out of our hands. PJ's dedication to the overall vision of Tolkien can't be doubted. Some of the choices he makes may cause a twinge or two, but is that going to stop me from seeing the movie? No way!
I keep wondering what Tolkien would have thought about the movies. Some of the editorial changes would have driven him batty. But if there was one thing Tolkien appreciated, it was passion and meticulous attention to detail. Tolkien complained loudest about editors, reviewers or people making radio or movie productions of his work, when they didn't take the time to really read or understand what he wrote. On that basis at least, Tolkien would have no cause to complain of Peter Jackson.

*Tar grabs her own and joins Lady Ash...*
going thru Osgiliath is bad... going thru sewers is worse... Frodo telling Faramir of Boromir's death makes me shake my head in desbelief at PJ & co.... Faramir even knowing about the ring is pathetic... and ruining Tolkien's Faramir makes me cry!!!!

I'm not too pleased with this, but I've heard plenty of good arguments at other sites that it would be plausible for Godor to have sewers. Its been speculated that Gondor was modeled from Rome, and they had sewers.
I find the news odd, but I'll hold out and see.

mich let? lol @ Ash.... j/k
well yes. rome had sewers but did they look like the pic from the book? well even if they did... it shouldnt follow that ones in ME would... oh well i guess it might be plausible... still! :(

Modeled after Rome by whom though? PJ? If so, therein lies the heart of the matter!

Erm, I meant Tolkien.... but it was just message board chat, only groundless speculation as far as I know.
Its not the existance of the sewers that bug me, but the fact that my two favorate charactors will be directed through them by another favorate charactor! *pouts*
I'll live. ;)
