Which is your favorite scene from FotR put of these five? I've tried to put up a selection of different scenes in the poll, some action, some poignant. So vote!

Gandalf versus the Balrog! Watching them face-off upon the bridge is absolutely breathtaking. :flamer:

A! Elbereth
November 3rd,2002, 02:14 AM
I liked Gandalf versus the Balrog also. I was going to say Sam and Frodo in the boats, which is my second favorite, but the only reason I picked the Balrog and Gandalf is because I like to watch Frodo...... *guilty for Frodo swooning* :loveyou:

I voted for the Fellowship vs Cave Troll. Just for it's pure Action, I love the action. I also voted for it cause there was no answer saying, Any scene With Legolas in it. That would have most definately had my vote.lol

I love the Frodo-Sam scene. It makes me tear up and go, "Awwww!!"

A! Elbereth
November 3rd,2002, 03:33 AM
Okay now I am regretting I didin't vote for the Frodo/Sam scene.... I am betraying my most favored character of my life! How could I! mecry

Belaqua
November 3rd,2002, 08:17 PM
Sorry, but couldn't think of a Leggy scene to put in. I voted for Boromir (obviously) not just because i adore him, but also cause its touching and sad. Just like Sam and Frodo. I was thinking of putting Radioactive Galadriel vs Frodo, but i thought that Sam and Frodo was better.

TheRingBearer
November 3rd,2002, 09:05 PM
I'd say Gandalf VS the BAlrog, just because its also a very emotional scene with the whole slow motion part once he falls and you see everyone crying outside like Sam mecry. It's great

Adunauriel
November 3rd,2002, 09:06 PM
True it would be hard to pick just one Legolas scene. That's why I said "Any scene with Legolas". I liked the scene with Boromir, but I love the action of the scene with the Cave troll. It showed Leggy at his butt kickin best.... ;)

November 4th,2002, 01:15 AM
call me awful but when i first saw the part where boromir died...i laughed. Mind you it was at like 4:00 in the morning and all my friends and i were high on sugar and diet root beers but still i picked the sam and frodo scene because it was very touching (evne though i found a mistake in it) and it almost made me cry. Before ya yell at me -hides- i would like to say that now that i have a better understanding of the boromir thing and have seen the movie about a trillion more times..it is VERY sad!! -waves a white flag -

Adunauriel
November 4th,2002, 03:56 AM
Togo your awful...lol ....... Don't worry thou... People will forgive.:)

I'm the only Vote for Fellowship vs Cave Troll, so I'll stand alone.

A! Elbereth
November 4th,2002, 04:49 AM
Is the mistake you saw the fact that after Sam was out of the water only his head was wet and his clothes were dry? hahaha.... I laugh! lol

Togo Bleecker
November 5th,2002, 01:32 AM
yup thats the mistake! Sam's clothes are dry and only his head is wet, if his cloak was wet the gray (they are supposed to be green during the day anyway, mistake within in a mistake) would have appeared blackish

Tar-Ancalimë
November 5th,2002, 01:46 AM
no wait! thats wrong, the cloak is an elven cloak... have you read the books!? it isn't supposed to get wet, it's i guess, water repellent... to use a crude modern term...

The Elves next unwrapped and gave to each of the Company the clothes they had brought. For each they had provided a hood and cloak, made according to his size, of the light but warm silken stuff that the Galadhrim wove. It was hard to say of what colour they were: grey with the hue of twilight under the trees they seemed to be; and yet if they were moved, or set in another light, they were green as shadowed leaves, or brown as fallow fields by night, dusk-silver as water under the stars. Each cloak was fastened about the neck with a brooch like a green leaf veined with silver.
- Are these magic cloaks? - asked Pippin, looking at them with wonder.
- I do not know what you mean by that, - answered the leader of the Elves. - They are fair garments, and the web is good, for it was made in this land. They are elvish robes certainly, if that is what you mean. Leaf and branch, water and stone: they have the hue and beauty of all these things under the twilight of Lórien that we love; for we put the thought of all that we love into all that we make. Yet they are garments, not armour, and they will not turn shaft or blade. But they should serve you well: they are light to wear, and warm enough or cool enough at need. And you will find them a great aid in keeping out of the sight of unfriendly eyes, whether you walk among the stones or the trees. You are indeed high in the favour of the Lady! For she herself and her maidens wove this stuff; and never before have we clad strangers in the garb of our own people.

well... that doesnt say anything about water... but the point is... it isnt a mistake ;)

oh and... look more closely... they are green :)

November 5th,2002, 01:51 AM
Interesting, Tar-Ancalimë! Thanks for the quote ;)

Togo Bleecker
November 5th,2002, 01:59 AM
yes i have read the book but obviusely not close enough :), thanks for the quote Tar, it was very informative. It was my impression that the cloaks were supposed to be green during the day and then gray at night, camaflouge but as i have stated before (and if i havent on this particular post i will again :) ) i am new to this so the more corrections you guys make of my mistakes the more i get informed..thanks a bunch!

Tar-Ancalimë
November 5th,2002, 01:59 AM
well i must admit it had nothign to do with water... but i am pretty sure i remember reading somewhere that they repell water... maybe tho it was just on another forum from someone who didn't know anything ;)

aw and dont worry about being new  everyone was once... and believe me, some of my earlier posts are... horrible! lol

not to mention some of my current ones... if that last post seemed kinda mean to you... ignore it ;)

TheRingBearer

What is your choice out of these scenes?

Gadalf and Bilbo in Bag End
Hobbits hiding from Ringwraiths
Flight to the Ford
Cahradras
Battle at Amon Hen

Adunauriel
November 7th,2002, 12:41 AM
I would add in something about the the Lament for Gandalf stuff. I actually think that's a beautiful scene. So quiet and sad... :)

Nessa
November 7th,2002, 12:54 AM
Alright guys, I merged two threads for the very first time, and it didn't come out quite perfect. Ringbearer began a thread called 'fav scenes from Fellowship round 2', I thought I'd merge it to prevent confusion and save space, and I accidently kept his new title instead of Belaquea's old one.

I'll see if I can fix it, sorry if I've confused anyone.

Adunauriel
November 7th,2002, 01:07 AM
Well, I was kind of hopeing we could get a second Poll up with a choice about the Lothlorien Lament to Gandalf scene, but I'll live without it.mecry

Nessa
November 7th,2002, 01:17 AM
Sorry, Adunariel, multiple posts in one thread is impossible, and multiple threads on one topic can be confusing.

Can we think of RB's suggestions as more options if you like them better than the first set?

Adunauriel
November 7th,2002, 01:22 AM
Yes that's probably best. I understand about the confusing part. Then I'll say that my Fave scene was The Lothlorien Lament for Gandalf. It was sad, but beautiful at the same time. My fave for the sake of voteing was Fellowship vs Cave Troll...

Nessa
November 7th,2002, 01:32 AM
Alright, all back to normal now. (Phew! )

Tar-Ancalimë
November 7th,2002, 03:21 AM
did you find out how to change the title, Nessa? (it's under Edit Thread ;)) you should probably take out the second "poll" :p

and yes, two diff threads on one subject is just confusing! if you have a different fav scene you are more than welcome to post that here

normal... Boromir
oops this is the thread for... Boromir mecry

Chan
November 7th,2002, 04:52 AM
I also voted for Fellowship vs Cave Troll. I just love that scene! They are all great scenes. But I think I would have voted for Lament for Gandalf. If anyone is in the room when that scene comes on, I make them be quiet. Nobody is allowed to speak or make noise when Leggy says, "I have not the heart to tell you. For me the grief is still too near." So sad. Ahhhh, What he does to me! That boy is amazing.

TheRingBearer
November 7th,2002, 05:48 PM
I'm glad its sorted  Cheers Nessa.

Back to the poll I'd say the flight to the ford was one of the most exilerating scenes

That in particular is why I enjoyed it. I also loved how they filmed it in this blue glow. It cements the sadness of the whole moment. I just love that scene.

before i read the books i thought lothlorien looked creepy, and then afterwards i imagined it so much happier looking! But i am not one to critize i love the lothlorien scenes...

Adunauriel
November 8th,2002, 09:56 PM
Well I think there was an element of darkness in Lothlorien. Just not a creepy darkness.:) The Elves were happy, but sad. I think that added a darkness. ;)

Togo Bleecker
November 10th,2002, 03:16 AM
true, im sure the greiving of gandalf is what made it appear sad, there was just a general depressing mood amongst the fellowship and the elves

Adunauriel
November 10th,2002, 03:29 AM
Thanks Togo, that's exactly what I was trying to say. I couldn't get the words right in my mind. You've said what I wanted to Beautifull. ;)

The scene that touched me the most was just after Gandalf fell.
I think it's the first movie I've ever seen where the raw emotion of a sudden (seeming) loss is displayed so openly.

Lintefaniel
November 12th,2002, 07:22 AM
My favorite scene is actually Aniron between Aragorn and Arwen but I love the cinematography and effects of Gandalf and the Balrog. I think I watched FotR atleast 20 times in 5 days? But that was just last week!! This week I am down by 1or 2 times...I'm hopeless! Gotta get the extended version on the morrow!!

Adunauriel
November 12th,2002, 08:13 AM
:elfeek: that's alot of time to watch FotR... Most of us here have been waiting for the Extended Version to come out as well.:)

Togo Bleecker
November 14th,2002, 05:58 AM
i want the extended one so bad....but anywho back on topic, i love the hobbit party scene!! the whole firework thing made it magical and pippin and merry are just hilarious. I also love watching gandalf dance like a giant among the tiny hobbits..hehe makes me giggle everytime

My favorite scene in FOTR is when Saruman is standing on top of Orthanc chanting. It just looks so cool.

Darth Saruman
November 22nd,2002, 04:45 AM
i am with Chaos Mage, thats pretty intense...it moved me. also enjoyed all the Boromir scenes....Sean Bean kicked ***, been a fan of his since Patriot Games.

Iarfirithwen
November 25th,2002, 12:39 PM
Okay out of those 5 I went for Boromir. I was amazed by how much that scene moved me. I knew what was going to happen, I knew he died, but the way they did that scene (all of it) was amazing: the way it was directed, the looks on Merry and Pippins faces, the determination on Sean Bean's face, the way he fought. You really felt like a very noble and valiant man was being lost and that was a terrible loss. And then the music just pushed me over the edge. I don't normally get emotional in films but that scene really affected me, and I knew he was going to die! I thought they did an amzing job to make me feel like that when I knew what was going to happen. Same thing for the post-Gandalf vs. Balrog scene. I was moved and I not only knew that Gandalf was going to be lost there BUT I also knew that he wasn't really dead and would be back in TTT. How good were they to make me feel like that! The music as they ran out made me feel really sad, but it was seeing Pippin so devasted ( Billy Boyd) that sent to the verge of mecry and I suppose the look on Frodo's face kept me feeling like that.
Two great scenes! Any crew that can make a viewer be moved that much by a scene a) the viewer already knows (and knows it may not be the end - for Gandalf anyway) and b) when that viewer doesn't normally get that 'emotional' in movies deserves praise in my books  to the cast & crew!

Of course they are green... Oh, anyways... the garment worn by the actors got wet because they're normal but high-quality cloth and still would get wet anyways...

Green is the original colours all right....to be exact, its the colour of wherever they were....supposedly.

Adunauriel
December 27th,2002, 10:40 PM

I was so moved by Boromirs death scene...not only because og the acting but also because it showed that Boromir wasn't such a bad man..he just wanted to help save Gondor...but I just did it the wrong way...

Boromir's death...

Gwaihir
January 9th,2003, 11:13 AM
This is such a difficult question, because I like both the Moria and Death of Boromir equally. I wish I could vote for two... :( Boromir's death is so sad and touching! He was so brave... I like him better than Faramir, somehow, at least in the movie. :loveyou:

Aranel Eruntale
January 14th,2003, 01:50 AM
My favorite scene was the death of Boromir. The slow-mo, Boromir getting shot up and continuing to fight, the looks on Mippin's faces while they charged. It was just beautiful.

Lorien21
January 17th,2003, 11:15 PM

Adunauriel
February 9th,2003, 10:58 PM
I don't know wether to feel sad, or laugh about the fact that your friend thought Boromir was Aragorn... I think it's more funny thou, so I'll laugh....;) lol lol

Arwen Undomiel
February 10th,2003, 02:38 AM
i think it's part funny, part worrying; i honestly cannot understand how you can get the two of them mixed up, but i HAVE heard a number of ppl saying boromir and aragorn do look too simliar. mecry

Winyaél Greenleaf

Exactly. I mean, their hair is already of a diff. colour...
C'mon my bro thought Haldir was Legolas at Helm's Deep.

February 13th,2003, 01:46 PM
*gasps* now that IS shocking... what a way to crush the leggy fans - not that i'm a particular fan of his; i prefer his stubblechops friend, aragorn. lol

the additional lothlorien scenes from the extended version are fast becoming my favourites, especially the ones where the fellowship are preparing to leave lothlorien.

February 13th,2003, 04:53 PM
I think that Boromir deserved to die. Cause he betrayed his friends by going after the ring.

TheRingBearer
February 13th,2003, 06:44 PM
Yeah but it wasn't really his fault. It was the ring's evil influence

Arwen Undomiel
February 14th,2003, 12:12 AM
yeh, boromir wasn't a bad guy; he was just lured by the ring's power. plus he saved merry and pippin.

Winyaél Greenleaf
February 14th,2003, 11:49 AM
Definitely can't say that Boromir betrayed his friends, because he DID NOT. He was influenced by the ring but when he came to his senses (when Frodo put on the ring), he kept saying "Frodo I'm sorry Frodo". And yup, he saved the 2 hobbits. I'm not a fan of Boromir, but I consider him a real hero.

Adunauriel
February 14th,2003, 11:40 PM
Yea, Boromir didn't betray the fellowship... Well atleast not on purpose, but because of the rings influence he did a little bit... JMHO....

February 15th,2003, 02:07 AM

Winyaél Greenleaf
February 15th,2003, 12:02 PM
yes, what's that?

*Teleri*
February 15th,2003, 09:01 PM
I deffinately love the whole scene with Frodo and Sam in the boat in the end of the movie. It's such an emotional part and just shows how much Frodo means to Sam and that their friendship is so strong.

*Mrs.Bloom*
February 16th,2003, 01:01 AM
I love all scenes but Council of Elrond is one of my fav. ...
Legolas is so cute when he defend Aragorn!! :)

Winyaél Greenleaf
February 16th,2003, 07:14 AM
yes definitely. and Legolas looked so cool when he was fighting those orcs and the cave troll in the mines!

*Mrs.Bloom*
February 16th,2003, 11:24 AM
So we came to conclusion...LEGOLAS IS ALWAYS CUTE!!

Winyaél Greenleaf
February 16th,2003, 11:58 AM
There's no need to come out with all those "In which scene is he the cutest" polls lol

Arwen Undomiel
February 16th,2003, 06:12 PM
yep, there's plenty 'nuff threads for drooling! lol

i always love the moria scenes and especially gandalf's 'death' - just the absolutely stunning look of dejection and sadness in frodo's eyes when aragorn calls his name, and there's tears streaming down his face and his eyes look 50x larger than usual... it's so heart-wrenching and moving... mecry mecry mecry

TheRingBearer
February 19th,2003, 09:49 PM
Seeing as there isn't a 'The Little Things' type thread here, i'll post this here.

I just noticed for the first time today whilst watching FOTR extended on my mates new widescreen telly with surround sound , that after Boromir has the third arrow in him and drops to his news, you can see the horn of Gondor split in two down the middle.

By the way when you hear the horn of gondor in surround sound, it sounds like it comes right from behind you. It's great ;)

Adunauriel
February 19th,2003, 11:38 PM
I also noticed the split in the horn, it's really quick so you have to be looking for it.. Once you see it thou, you'll always notice it...

ok, the boromir scene is very sad, and the Frodo and sam scene at the end did make me cry (just a little bit; i'm not that much of a wimp!!) but I don't like the actual council meeting (in and of the actual scene;Legolas looks great, as usual.) , but the end of the scene is hilarious, so I'll just vote 4 the Frodo &Sam scene @ the end. :mecry:

I hate to say that Boromir dying is my "favorite" part ( who likes to see him die?... especially while he is redeeming himself by protecting Merry and Pippin), but if I had to pick out a scene that stood out the most to me, it's hands down Borormir's "departure". I do love the scene...so poignant and moving. GREAT acting by Viggo and Sean. Two thumbs up!

I liked the concial but the troll sence was good too. is there a thread about fav scences in TTT? in there isnt y dont one of u start one? I r afraid i will screw it up somehow (dont think that is possible? well you dont know me!!)

I'm pretty sure there is a thread about fav TT scenes...if not, I'll start one, but I'm pretty sure there is. :)

I tink there is anyway. i replied in one of the threads before.
The cave troll scene rocks totally, and would you believe, the cave troll is completely computer graphic! Thumbs up to the wonderful actors, PJ, the CG ppl, cheorographers, well, lots... !

TheRingBearer

Yeah the cave troll totally beats any other cg creation, up to that time anyway

Winyaél Greenleaf
March 5th,2003, 01:37 PM
And the bridge of kazad-dum too. (sorry for spelling error, too lazy to check it out) I bet the the actors muz be feeling pretty silly running uo and down in the studio, but when they see the outcome, I bet they couldn't believe their eyes!

My favorite is Fellowship VS. the Cave Troll. Legolas gets some good screen time during that scene.

Winyaél Greenleaf

Yup, apart from the great cg effect, that's one of the main reasons I liked it too. Doesn't he looks so cool there?

YayBoromir!
March 20th,2003, 06:03 PM
I think that my favourite scene from the choices in this poll would have to be the Fellowship vs the Cave Troll. I couldn't vote for the Death of Boromir cos I hate that Boromir dies! mecry
The Cave Troll scene was really well done, some great CG effects (though I thought when Legolas was on top of the Cave Troll, it looked pretty fake!!!) But the rest was great!!!

SindarinGirl
March 20th,2003, 07:53 PM
Like Adunauriel, I dig the action!
What I really liked in the fight scene btw the Fellowship and the Cave Troll in the EE version, was where Aragorn and Boromir worked to pull the Troll back from squishing Sam, then Aragorn saves Boromir from that orc, and just nods at him and goes on while Boromir clears his head. It shows that even though he's seen Boromir as disrespectful and kind of a threat, Aragorn still sees him as a companion and treats him the same as he would any of the others in the same imminent danger.

And yes, Legolas really shines for the first time in this sequence, and he rocks! I sound like a drooling fangirl, I know! I can't help it, I'm only a woman! lol

Totally MHO

But did anyone notice that when Merry and Pippin are on the back of the Cave Troll they seem really really tiny compared to it, but in other scenes, esp. after it falls, it doesn't seem as huge? I keep thinking about the scale.

Celebrían
March 20th,2003, 08:17 PM
I didn't notice while watching the movie, but know that I stop and think about it, I think you may be right. Maybe I'll watch it this weekend and look for that........

And, yeah, Legolas does "shine" in this scene. I was especially blown away by that knife-work (we all know that he kicks tail as an archer, but he's not too shabby with those long-knives, either!) :o

Winyaél Greenleaf
March 21st,2003, 05:07 AM
I love it when he uses those knives too! go Leggy!!!

I know Orli complained abt those explosive things blowing up in his face because they had to use explosives to show the impact of the cave troll's chain against the wall. lol It's really hard to film that actually. You can't jump around any old how. Like Orli was told he couldn't go too low or something or his head would get lopped off by the chain. And it's pretty hard to imagine all this if that thing isn't even there.

Celebrían
March 21st,2003, 05:21 AM

yep the cast commentary was great! I tell ya, I had a hard time finding the ext. dvd! By the way, wanna go to the Friendly Tavern at the Inn of the Prancing Pony? It's pretty empty there. Sad case. :boohoo:
Anyway, back to topic.
The scene involving the gifts (ext. dvd) was great too. Leggy's grin was soooo sweeet!!! :loveyou:

I love every single scene...but certain scenes really draw me in like all the scenes with Galadriel. I find her mysterious and fascinating. The mirror scene tops my list; I can watch that over and over and still find it interesting and thought provoking. It would have been interesting to see or read at the end, the reunion between her and Frodo after he accomplished what she encouraged him to do. Or with Sam, after foretelling that he was the "hope that still remained". :)

Elfdaughter
October 10th,2004, 05:42 PM
Hmm....a favourite scene....I don't think I have one, I love them all - though if I had to choose from the ones on the list, I'd go for the Death of Boromir.

Jedi
October 10th,2004, 08:54 PM
Too many scenes to pick a favourite although Gandalf's speech in the black tongue of mordor at the council of elrond (EE) was an unbeatable moment.

However I will pick what was, for me, the most enduring scene.

Frodo sitting under the tree in The Shire (cinema edition), and the story begins again.

Lady Galadriel

I love every single scene...but certain scenes really draw me in like all the scenes with Galadriel. I find her mysterious and fascinating.

I wholeheartedly agree. Can we say Prologue....it was excellent...then to finally see her later in Lothlorien was exhilarating. I love when Frodo hears her voice in the woods of Lorien. Its so bewitching yet terrifying.

Cassandria
October 11th,2004, 12:34 AM
I love when Frodo hears her voice in the woods of Lorien. Its so bewitching yet terrifying.

Oh yes! All the times he hears her voice must have been terrifying at first...but then at the end when he's in trouble, it's her that gives him the strength and resolve to go on (in the movie at least). :) That's why I wish she would have been in Minas Tirith to honor his and Sam's accomplishment. I know even Tolkien didn't elaborate on it, but I think it would have been an interesting addition to both the book and movie. :mmmm:

Lady Galadriel
October 11th,2004, 12:40 AM
Yes. In the book Frodo and the others traveled with her for quite a while after A&A wedded. That must have been fun. In the movie, I also wished she was in Minas Tirith....oh, and I absolutely loved when she gave Frodo the hand in ROTK.

Cassandria
October 11th,2004, 12:45 AM
Do you think her giving him her hand was Frodo's imagination drawn from his resolve and her earlier advice...or do you think she was really inside his head at that moment? :mmmm:

Lady Galadriel
October 11th,2004, 12:52 AM
Gosh! Well, I have never really thought about that deeply. Hhmmm!! **scratches head** Its hard to say..maybe it was her literally reaching out to him in his mind...she knew that he would need the phial for Shelob's Lair so maybe she knew he would need her then too. lol Just my lame attempt at answering that because it is truly perplexing. I dont think that elves have that kind of power...only unless Nenya helped.

Cassandria
October 11th,2004, 01:19 AM
hmmm That's what I was thinking too. That it was a power she had from her ring. But I can also see it being Frodo's resolve with memory of her encouragement. :) I can't decide. :mmmm:

Lady Galadriel
October 11th,2004, 01:42 AM
Hhmmm! Frodo's resolve. I just thought that she would be the last person he would think of just then...but maybe the phial reminded him of her.

Cassandria
October 11th,2004, 02:22 AM
In the movies she also had that kind of telepathy with Elrond on TTT. Remember when she said the "quest will claim his life". I wonder if that was the idea the writers were trying to get across? That she had that power. :)

Lady Galadriel
October 11th,2004, 02:28 AM
Yeah...in the movie they had that telephathy thing...but you know...I wonder if that was embellishment. I know that the elves can mind speak but I get the impression that it is in close proximity....like in Many Partings chapter of LOTR, Elrond, Celeborn, Gandalf and Elrond were engaged in Mind Speak...

Cassandria
October 11th,2004, 03:19 AM
Yes and didn't Galadriel get into all the fellowships minds when she met them (just like in the movie)? hmmm This is such an interesting thing to think about. I need to read those parts again and think about this some more. :)

btw Lady G, I read in the threads the others talking about your fanfic. Where is it posted? I'd be interested in reading it too. :)

Lady Galadriel
October 11th,2004, 03:28 AM
Yes, I believe Galadriel can get into their heads easily....since elves can communicate thru minds....men have the ability to do it...but they are not good at it because they do not have the control over their bodies and minds like elves.

 I will PM you the link in a sec....so you dont have to look too hard.

Oh, and in FOTR, when Gandalf falls and the Fellowship is outside crying...

Lady Arwen
October 11th,2004, 05:53 PM
*handles the box to Lady Galadriel* here it is...but quick cos i need it again!!!that Gandalf one really broke my heart!!!!" then you see it..." "you see what???----Gandalf??"...Pippin's face is soooo sweet there!and it is like ... the third time that Gandalf doesnt call him a Fool!!

sure that scene from FOTR is just too sad...how cruel were these ppl who made these films!!keepin us cryin for wot?9 hours or even more!!!lol!i dont think i could handle an EE marathon...now gimme my box back thanks!

anyway...here i just went to the shops and bought you a box just for you and one just for me as well cos this one i had is already finished *someone used all of the tissues...*!

oh and what about that bit in the FOTR EE where Frodo and Sam see the Elves leaving and Sam says "i don't know why but now i'm feeling sad" (or somthing like this).... mecry mecry mecry mecry

Cassandria
October 11th,2004, 06:31 PM

Lady Arwen did you happen to get an extra box of tissues? mecry The scene your speaking of with Sam and Frodo always makes me cry too because I think of the significance of it in regards to the ending when Frodo passes into the west. mecry mecry

Lady Galadriel
October 11th,2004, 06:43 PM
Okay, you guys are depressing me....mecry...need to think of the Shire and its tranquility.

Yes, the passing of the elves is mecry....**wipes eyes and makes strenuous effort to control emotions** is so sad too. Middle Earth would never be the same without them. mecry...so sad.

Yes, Cassandria, that scene when the green thingy spurts up into the air and everyone is terrified....ah! What a horrible omen...I mean Minas Tirith is right on Sauron's doorstep...ggrrh Scary.

Lady Arwen
October 11th,2004, 06:51 PM
*goes to the shops again in spite the freezing italian autumn nite and gets another box of tissues for Cassandria*

you girls are gonna make me get a pneumonya!!i only hope :aragorn: hurries up bringing the Athelas or my cold will never go away!

anyway i also love it when Pippin says "i guess it is only a ceremonial position..." ... he is just lovely cos even if he is sayin that in a funny way it is clear that he is sooo scared of fighting!and when he says "Gandalf is there any hope left for Frodo and Sam?" mecry

oh wait...the lighting of the beacons...just seeing those mountains made me cry!!!this is a serious problem i have i think!
but i loved also when Gandalf said "hope is kindled" ...i was glad to know they put that that way when then i read the book and discovered that he really says "war is kindled"...i dont htink these days we need to be reminded about war! mecry mecry

Lady Galadriel
October 11th,2004, 06:58 PM
You know, I have heard many say that the lighting of the beacons scene moved them....but it didnt really do anything for me....**hides behind door** Maybe I am weird or something...

Lady Arwen
October 11th,2004, 07:14 PM
*aims at her with one of the empty boxes*...just kidding darling!!
you are not weird..it just depends on how you interpret it i think...hey i think you once told me this about interpretation of films on the coe!(but that was for another topic... ;) )...anyway really each of us sees these films in different ways so...and many scenes that didnt move me at all the first time i saw them now get me mecry while others that used to move me at first are now ok and i can see them without mecry !!thats it!

Lady Galadriel
October 11th,2004, 07:20 PM
Yeah...you are right....its how you interpret it....its like Gandalf said, "Hope has been kindled" However, it still does not move me like it should. Now, I get chills when the Rohirrim shows up...especially after that moment of mayhem where the city is overrun with the enemy...and we she people dying and bodies strewned across the paths.

Lady Arwen
October 11th,2004, 07:28 PM
ohh i love when the Rohirrim arrive!!!it's such a great scene!!!

oh something i love but its in TTT ... when Faramir says to Frodo that they get to understand each other (i think its in taht scene at last)you see on the background not too clearly tho two soldiers...one of the two liein on the stairs wonded and the other one helpin him and givin him like somehtin to drink i think...i dont know but i find that soo moving all the times even if you really must look close to notice it!

Lady Galadriel
October 11th,2004, 07:31 PM
Oh, I have never noticed that....what about Sam's speech...mecry...and the music...moves me to tears everytime...straight thru the heart.

Lady Arwen
October 11th,2004, 07:36 PM
oh gosh...Sam's speech mecry....and also at the end when they are talking about them being into stories...i know Lij and Sean didnt really like how it turned out at first but then gettin used to it...i think tis absolutely lovely instead cos ... well...they look soo sweet .... "samwise the brave"... :)

Lady Galadriel
October 11th,2004, 07:38 PM
They didnt like how it turned out? You read that in an interview?

Oh, by the way, didnt you think Isildur looked something like Aragorn?

Lady Arwen
October 11th,2004, 07:41 PM
i think i heard that in the commentaries..just durin that very scene if im not mistaken...

as for Isildur...actually first time i saw Aragorn was on the cover of my soundtrack cd (i bought it even bfore knowin wot the film was like cos Enya was in the soundtrack...IM MAD!lol!)and i saw this handsome lad on the cover and wondered who he might have been in the films...then first time Isildur shows up i thought HE was the lad on the cd cover!!but then i saw he got killed and then i realised it mustnt have been the same person!!!lol!!!
so this goes to show that Yes i thought Isildur looked like :aragorn: (even tho :aragorn: is waaaay btr ;) )

Lady Galadriel
October 11th,2004, 07:46 PM
Now Isildur is not so bad himself. ;) But how easily the ring affected him...I mean, the moment he touched it he wanted it...

Lady Arwen
October 11th,2004, 07:48 PM
yeah he was sooooooo "easily corrupted"!!!!crazy to think of it!!all the times i see Elrond tellin him to cast it into the fire i feel like shoutin to him "come on, throw the ring and Isildur in!"...lol i know im mean!!!:)

Lady Galadriel
October 11th,2004, 07:54 PM
lol **rolls over laughing** How villianous you are... lol

I guess that would have been the easiest solution to the problem...but then it would probably change a multitude of things about the future...luckily, Aragorn might have still existed since Valandil was already born.

Mouth Of Sauron
October 11th,2004, 08:05 PM
hmmm, I wonder what would Middle Earth would have been like if Isildur had destroyed the ring there and then.

Would Aragorn be King? Would there be a Faramir? Would there still be all the Elves left in Middle Earth? So many questions.

Lady Galadriel
October 11th,2004, 08:27 PM
Yeah...I wouldnt even venture to think...

Lady Arwen
October 11th,2004, 08:30 PM

Lady Galadriel
October 11th,2004, 08:47 PM
Take a pain killer and eat some soup.

Maybe Aragorn would have only been king in the Northern Kingdom.

Oh, in that scene with the mirror, I love that Galadriel was barefeet.

Lady Arwen
October 11th,2004, 08:56 PM
haha!yeah i had my soup and my paracetamol tonite already!but the headache had nothin to do with the cold!just with the too much thinking about those questions!!

oh yes Galadriel mirror scene...i liked that too!

Lady Galadriel
October 11th,2004, 09:12 PM
Like that drawing of Luthien that I posted under the A&A thread...I can actually see elves being free like nature...barefeet and lightly clad.

Lady Arwen
October 11th,2004, 09:15 PM
yes i also see them like that!

Lady Galadriel
October 11th,2004, 09:23 PM
You know what is really traumatizing too...that scene where Boromir protects the hobbits and the Minas Tirith song is playing...then up comes Lurtz looking as savage as he really is...and he aims...and and....you know what...awful.

Lady Arwen
October 11th,2004, 09:27 PM
*digs up the kleenex box AGAIN* oh gosh that scene just breaks my heart...and all the time :aragorn: jumps from somewhere and lands on Lurtz and fights with him i always cheer...even if for just a bit cos then comes Boromir death scene (which i voted here as my fav scene in fotr)and mecry like mad....

Lady Galadriel
October 11th,2004, 09:31 PM
Yes, its very sad...but I also like when he is talking to Aragorn about what Galadriel said to him...his voice was strung with passion and his patriotism was clearly though melancholy manifested.

Lady Arwen
October 11th,2004, 09:34 PM
oh and when he talks about Minas Tirith with the Gondorian theme playing? "Have u seen it Aragorn, the white tower of Ecthelion..." i just love that part cos its like poetry but yet its in prose and well...i love it!and also Aragorn's face is great when Boromir describes the city....like you know...oh i cant say it with words...i hope u get it anyway!

Lady Galadriel
October 11th,2004, 09:37 PM
Yes I do...Sean Bean did an excellent job with expression Boromir's passion for his country and people. He also did a good job when he was going nuts.

Lady Arwen
October 11th,2004, 09:41 PM
yes when he went nuts was just soo great!lol!

Elijah's Girl
October 11th,2004, 10:33 PM

Lady Arwen
October 12th,2004, 09:47 AM
oh no pls dont cry Elijah's girl....here take one of these *hands her tissue*...anyway you are right...even tho it took me a while to understand that those were Boromir's gloves, when i did i just loved that scene!

Charmander
October 18th,2004, 08:39 PM
I agree with you Lady Arwen about the poetry and prose - the best part is that Phillipa, Fran and Peter took that right from the books! I think it's in Return of the King where I read it, but it's almost word for word.

My favourite scene is the Elves going to the harbour beyond the white towers - I cry so much during that scene. And I cry when Gandalf falls - but Boromir's death gets me every time! And it's not like it's a surprise - and when he talks to Aragorn about what happened - it's a beautiful scene, despite the strange hand movement between the two :)

Lady Arwen
October 18th,2004, 08:45 PM
oh i know Charmander...when i read that bit in the books i began smiling cos i was so happy to see it in the books...yep you are right its in ROTK and its when Pippin first sees Minas Tirith when Gandalf takes him there!
oh you mean the EE version when Frodo and Sam see the elves?i love it when Sam says "i dont know why but now i feel sad" or something like this!its sooo sad!

Charmander
October 18th,2004, 08:52 PM
When Sam says it I get sad - but when I see all the elves going to what they would consider a better place, I guess it is sad - after having seen ROTK I cry even more in that scene since I know that Frodo ends up doing the same. And I always wish someone would say to Sam you'll see your Master soon enough, since Sam also goes to the Grey Havens, just a lot later.

But to get away from the sad - the Red Dragon scene is kinda fun, and the birthday party of course is of great amusement!

Lady Arwen
October 18th,2004, 08:57 PM
oh yes thats true!and that scene in ROTK always kills me....when i see Arwen then....mecry.....here we go again!and Eldarion's face...and oh how happy is Aragorn when he's playin with his kid??!!sooo sweet they are!!! :)

oh i love every bit with Merry & Pip singing!lol!!!both in FOTR and ROTK!!lol!they are just toooo funny!

I wish there were more of the merriment in these movies, though I totally understand why there isn't. I really wish that there would be scenes between Theoden and Merry, where they talk about the pipeweed - I think that'd be real touching - but I don't need additional reasons to cry - I just watched the ROTK EE and the HOH, I'll be lucky if I actually see anything the first few times!

October 18th,2004, 09:10 PM
haha!I know...im actually lookin forward to Aragorn healing Faramir...i cried in the book when he says somethin like "the king has called me who will not reply when the king calls him" or well you know wot i mean anyway!
and of course the palantir...yay!and i wonder...do u know if they will put something like Aragorn and Arwen's wedding or there will be nothin like this?

Charmander
October 18th,2004, 09:14 PM
I heard a rumour that the coronation scene will be extended, but nothing further - in the books of course the coronation and wedding happen at least a few weeks apart, but with the passage of time being totally different in the movies I can only hope that we'll see something - I bet her wedding dress would be totally awesome! Man, I should not have watched that teaser - I can't seem to think about much else! I guess from a movie stand point we all know they're getting married, maybe Peter decided that the interaction at the coronation was self explanatory.

Lady Arwen
October 18th,2004, 09:20 PM
yes taht was self-explanatory indeed!!!i just love when during that scene they only let you hear the music playin in the background and then after they kiss and hug you hear Arwen's laughter....it just warms my heart all the times and makes me sooooo happy cos they are soo in love.....and well im usually so happy that i end up..mecry like this!

Charmander
October 19th,2004, 03:07 PM
I never really noticed that - I just noticed that the music is from the Lays of Luithia - which is just very scene appropriate! I always keep thinking when I'm watching that scene - how I want it not to end! I mean, after everything that's happened it's a perfect ending! And when they bow to the hobbits - I need to stop thinking about it or else I'm going to mecry !!

Lady Arwen
October 19th,2004, 07:05 PM
oh sure the lyrics are those that Aragorn sings in FOTR EE...and yes i also wish it could go on forever...you might have noticed this already but im a complete A/A lover so i just cant help but hope that all of their scenes last forever!and OMG when they bow to the hobbits....mecry!!!!

Charmander
October 19th,2004, 07:14 PM
The bowing to the hobbits gets me going so bad - there just aren't enough kleenex :)! The first time I saw it I was overcome - and now I can't keep it together. I always think I'll have a better control of my emotions, but alas, when LOTR is on I'm crying on and off throughout! I do enjoy the A/A storyline, but I'm a huge Faramir/Eowyn fan - but I respect all the A/A fans out there - it's a beautiful love story, more so after you read the Tale of Tinuviel, and see where Aragron and Arwen are descended from. I love when the tale is referenced in FOTR and they're on the bridge - absolutely brilliant!

I dont know about you guys, but I love the prologue and the battle scene to death. I still get chills listening to Cate Blanchett explain about the rings of power and the battle of Dagorlad. She is awesome! I am always extremely proud of that piece (as if I had anything to do with it). But actually, it makes me feel proud when recommending it to friends and acquaintances. I think its intriguing to them when they first hear her because her voice is so bewitching. It is very effective in grabbing the viewers interest, at least, I think so.

Charmander
October 20th,2004, 02:45 PM
You're right about the prologue - it is awesome! I think on the FOTR EE PJ talked about the prologue and how it was a decision between Elijah and Cate, and they went with Cate - I'm certainly glad for it! And it makes more sense - she is the eldest there besides maybe Elrond or Celebhorn - Gandalf might have been an interesting choice.

Lady Galadriel
October 20th,2004, 03:55 PM
No offense to the others, but I think Cate Blanchett was the best choice. ;) Maybe Hugo Weaving would have been a close second. His voice is compelling. He was great as Elrond independent of physical attributes. :shhh: But I really like him...regardless of what the masses say.

Charmander
October 20th,2004, 03:59 PM
A lot of people do pan Hugo Weaving, and I don't get that - so I'm right there with you. I thought he did an excellent job - though sometimes I see Agent Smith and I'm like run Neo! - but then, Neo isn't in the movie, and then I'm OK. Cate was the perfect choice - she is so amazing, but I feel a little remorse that they don't have her appear at the coronation like she is in the book. I think it would have been touching to see Galadriel see Arwen and Aragorn together.

Lady Galadriel
October 20th,2004, 04:24 PM
Yeah me too...but I can live with it.

lol You know, everyone says that about Hugo with the Matrix character...but I never, ever, see it. Thats how great an impact his acting has on me. I never remember Agent Smith when I see Elrond.

Just like Sean Bean. He was positively nefarious in Scarlett. I hated him, to be more explicit....but I liked him as Boromir regardless of the fact that he tried to take the ring. Sean Bean was very passionate as Boromir...his voice was so potent with his passion for his country. In short, he rocked!

so u had all this fun while i was away??!lol!!
oh gosh!!an E/F lover who respects A/A lovers!!yay!!!! entdraught
seriously, its nice to know that there are people who can accept the fact that other people can have different opinions!so  to you!

oh no...the bridge scene-......mecry!!!!sooo beautiful!!!

about Elrond...i hve no problems with him cos i have never seen the Matrix films so..gosh...now think of this...if ppl who saw him in the Matrix first and then LOTR see him always as Agent Smith, maybe to me will happen the contrary and i will always see him as Elrond?!lol!scary thought!!

oh sure the prologue is awesome...well first time i saw FOTR i had no idea of wot the story was like and not bein fan of fantasy stuff i was sittin there watchin this thing and thinkin What is goin on here?????!!!lol! But now i love it and Cate is absolutely brilliant in it and the best choice they could make...i mean as you said, she is the eldest one and she is the one who knows all these things so...great great choice!(btw i still am not a fan of fantasy stuff...this goes to show that LOTR is not fantasy perhaps!)

and oh yes, Galadriel should have been at the coronation/marriage too but i guess they couldnt cos when in FOTR EE she is talkin to Aragorn she tells him We shall never meet again Elessar! or somethin like this...but still it would have been lovely to see her at the coronation!

oh gosh so im not the only one who completely loses it when it gets to My friends, you bow to no one....i dont know its just that i love :aragorn: so much and he is there all kingly and noble and all and yet....he bows to the little Hobbits and.....mecry......sorry, you see!!!!

gosh i rambled enough for one single post!Lol!

Charmander
October 20th,2004, 04:49 PM
Lady Arwen! We tried not to have too much fun while you were gone. I don't know that I'd recommend the Matrix - maybe just the first one - it's interesting, but when you get to the end you might want your money and the last four hours back - but that might just be me...

I can see what you're saying about the prologue - for newcomers it really set the stage and sucked you in, when I saw that I was totally like - awesome - and from that standpoint that makes it by far the best.

I remember her saying that to Aragorn and thinking, why is she saying that if in the book they do meet at the coronation. I love the part in the book where Eomer and Gimli have their exchange about the fairest and Eomer says get your axe - that part is great, and that is kinda why I miss it.

Lady Galadriel
October 20th,2004, 04:53 PM
Ah! Yeah...when Eomer said that Queen Evenstar is the fairest lady that walks the earth...and Gimli said, "Your love is given to the evening and mine to the morning.." something like that.

Charmander
October 20th,2004, 05:02 PM
I love that! And I know it had to be omitted - but it makes Gimli more than a comic foil and gives Eomer something subtantive to say. Good memory!! I couldn't remember the exact words - guess I need to break LOTR out again, and I just finished reading it last month (not for the first time)!

Lady Arwen
October 20th,2004, 05:04 PM
oh yes i loved that part too!!!it was lovely!!lol!!!

and oh well must be a great film then Matrix!haha!!!but my friend who saw both of them also said that the second one wasnt that great!

Charmander
October 20th,2004, 05:11 PM
It just went somewhere - but didn't really take the audience with it - you know? That may not make sense - but it was lacking cohesion to the original story - almost an excuse to use lavish effects. Don't get me wrong I like effects, but if they don't do anything for the story, what's the point. I can use any part of LOTR to express that point! I mean it was such an effects heavy movie, but the effects were necessary to tell the story.

Lady Arwen
October 20th,2004, 05:17 PM
yeah thats what my friend told me...
and i know what you mean about LOTR...actually at first i didnt really meant to go and watch it cos i thought Gosh it will surely be effects-packed and all and i dont like these kind of films but then thank God i was sooo wrong!!!because they use those effects to tell you such a beautiful and touching and moving story....and it is moving isnt it??!lol!!we do know how moving it is!!

Charmander
October 20th,2004, 05:37 PM
There are so many parts of LOTR where I can't even imagine how the scenes would have been done without special effects - I mean, just the sizes of the hobbits alone makes for lots and lots of extra footage. They used forced perspective in a lot of scenes, which is interesting that it give the impression of different sizes, but of course there really isn't that great a disparity! In FOTR the bridge scene I thought was one of the best examples of that, you get a real sense of the hobbits' stature. I like how in the woods of Lothlorien they really didn't have to use forced perspective because JRD is that much taller than all the hobbits :)!

My favorite little parts of my favorite scenes are;

-when Gandalf hugs Frodo, it's such a warm meaningful hug like a Grandpa and little boy. :cuddles:

-that scared little boy look on Frodo's face when Gandalf leaves him and Sam in the woods. :o

-the way Aragorn's eyebrows go up into a sigh as he sings the lay of luthian. (we need a keel over and faint/sigh smilie lol )

-the emotion of the moment and the look on his face as Aragorn says "Be at peace" to Boromir as he dies. mecry

-and finally that look of firm determination Frodo has just as he's about to walk to the boat clenching the ring into his fist.

Good ones, Cassandria. When Gandalf parted with Sam and Frodo in the woods, it was so intriguing. The sounds in the woods alone were ominous. PJ and his team really did a great job with the music. The fear was definitely palpable in that scene...and when the birds scattered and Gandalf rode off...it was very scary....then we see the black rider. **trembles**

Lady Arwen
October 21st,2004, 04:55 PM
omg...the black rider....i was sooooooooooo scared the first time i saw that!what about when they all enter at the Prancin Pony???that music playin is soooo scary!!! :o

I don't know that I was scared - but I could totally feel the forboding and fear - mostly from the music! I love the LOTR soundtrack - it really transposes you to ME! I listen to it when I'm at work so I don't have to think about being at work!

haha!usually when i have to study at home i put the 3 cds in the player and let em play one after the other (great thing these 3 plates cdplayers!)...when im travelin to uni instead i usually take with me the ROTK cd and listen to it....its just great cos i can see the scenes of the films in my head or see those sceneries instead of dull city landscape!!lol!!YAY for Mr Shore!!

My favourite is when the CD player does a random thing - I find myself singing along if I know the order of the songs, and then no studying gets done! Though to be honest I really don't study as much as I should.

I love the theme for A/A in FOTR - that music is really mesmerizing! And it surpriesd me that Enya sang in elvish!

Lady Arwen
October 21st,2004, 06:30 PM
oh well sometimes i just act the scenes that go with the music on the bus like when the track 8 on rotk comes im there mouthin to myself "lady arwen we cannot delay....my lady.........you have the gift of foresight...tell me what you've seen....."and so on...or when Anduril track comes...the same...but the best is when i get to track 15...i usually blast it in my ears and begin "sons of gondor, of rohan...my brothers"... !!!lol!!!sometimes of course i also get tears when i think of those scenes...well after all bein me i do have to cry!haha!

and...well...actually when i heard Enya was goin to be in LOTR soundtrack i bought the cd before even knowin wot the film was about!!lol!then i saw on the cover of my cd Strider and i thought I HAV TO SEE THIS FILM!!lol!!!(but i was goin anyway cos i used to like Elijah a lot when i was younger!)

It's funny you should say that - I used to do that, but at http://www.elvish.org/gwaith/movie_soundtrack.htm they have all the text for the songs - so now I sing along, but not out loud, the people around my desk already think I'm a little nutsy - what with the LOTR and other toys on my desk :)

Some of the more fun ones to try to follow along are the End of All Things and Twilight and Shadow. There's a really amazing poem at the beginning of Steward of Gondor where it talks about Faramir having to do the work of two, for himself and the one that will not return - that always makes me sad :(

Lady Arwen
October 21st,2004, 08:44 PM
i had once saved them all and wanted to ask mom to print em out for me when she was at work but hten somehow i lost the file as well and never gave her!but i remember also the one of Boromir's death bein hte "i dont love the sword for its sharpness"i think...but i know the Evenstar words and i have on a post-it in my room in front of my desk the Breath of Life words so i always sing them when its playin ...the beginnin must be somethin like "gwennen na tha..." somethin like this anyway!and hten says "firitha" somewhere!haha!thats all i can remember from memory!)!

Big ups for a very good memory! I have the browser open as I'm listening - but I think I've gotten a few down! I just enjoy reading the translation as well as singing the elvish. It makes me really amazed at Professor Tolkien's ability to create so many different languages - and have so many people trying to figure them out! I would go into the language forum, but I'm always afraid that everyone will be speaking elvish and I'll have no idea what's going on!

Ah, there is a poem about Faramir?

Yeah, the Black Rider music at Bree and the scene is scary. I love the choir singing. I absolutely love it at Amon Sul too. Awesome music....and its perfect for the scene.

Lady Galadriel - the poem about Boromir and Faramir is:

Boe le henio
E sí câr athad iyn
Ane ah a phen
I ú athelitha.

You must understand.
He does the duty of two sons now.
For himself; and for the one
who will not return.

From the above link, in Sindarian - I remember it from the book, but my mind is a little hazy...

That Bree scene is really haunting! When the Ringwraiths come through the door and Mr. Butterbur looks like he is going to jump out of his skin!

Lady Arwen
October 22nd,2004, 05:36 PM
aw thank you for the poem Charmander...its really really beautiful isnt it?!!i just love it and all the others too of course...
as for that scene....scary!lol!
you know when they show the sleepin hobbits and then the ringwraiths as if they were goin to stab the hobbits?well i mean, that was kind of obvious even to me the first time that they could not kill them (or the film would have been over THERE!)but still isnt htat scary anyway?!it freaks me out all the times i see it!!!

PJ and co really set that scene up well! At first you're really not certain if they're in the beds, you're hoping not - and then there's that great scene where Viggo looks so hot and he's like "They are the Nazgul - Ringwraiths, neither living nor dead..." and he has his sword - it's all great!

Lady Arwen
October 22nd,2004, 05:48 PM
thanks for specifing the scene where Viggo is so hot cos there are just too many of them and i might have had a hard time to find the right one!! :)
anyways....i sooo love all that Strider meetin bit...."you draw far too much attention on urself Mr..Underhill"...sorry...lol!!
and "they were once men, great kings of men, then Sauron the deceiver gave them the 9 rings of power...blinded by the greed they took them without questions...."...i could go on for hours i think!!oh and when he switches that candle off with his fingers...wow!lol!and little Sam "let him go or ill get you, Longshank!!"!!lol!I just love this films!(in case one didnt notice!)

I had no idea! :p

I love the lay of luthia! When he starts singing, that was where I was like: that is Aragorn! That was by far one of my favourite Aragorn scenes. I would have liked to have seen more interaction with A/A in FotR, but we get more in TTT - but it would have made sense to show the flashback where he see her in Lothlorien and calls out Tinuviel - all in elvish, that would have been awesome!!

Lady Arwen
October 22nd,2004, 06:02 PM
i know what you mean about the flashback,...they did shoot it actually so why couldnt they just put it in the film??!this drives me so mad!!and oh when he sings its just such a beautiful scene....he is soooo sad poor Aragorn...i feel like mecry too...(haha!No wonder i guess!lol!)....but i always laugh when i see him carryin the deer!!poor soul, havin to carry all that huge beast by himself!and i bet those voracious hobbits only let him have like a small bite!haha!!but i like that they added this ...its a good addition...(of course it is since Viggo suggested that!lol!)

Charmander
October 22nd,2004, 07:08 PM
Knowing our luck they'll plug all those scenes in five years from now with a super EE or something - and I know I'll buy it. I loved that Viggo got so into the role that he was like, shouldn't Aragorn be bringing them something to eat - if the trip is more than two weeks there's no way that their food would have lasted. I wish they had introduced Nob, from the book - the hobbit that worked in the inn at Bree. I thought those Bree scenes were so dark and brooding - it might have been nice to have something a little uplifting, like a comical song from Frodo before the hammer fell.

Lady Arwen
October 22nd,2004, 07:21 PM
yes...and isnt that great that he also asked to shoot all the A/A scenes in Elvish???!oh i love that man!lol!!

I'm so glad they did all of the A/A scenes in Elvish! I wish there were more elvish in the movie! I often wonder why more people didn't speak it - I mean, obviously Gandalf knew it, why weren't his exchanges with Elrond in elvish? And if I'm not mistaken, didn't the people of Gondor speak in both the common tongue and in some form of elvish? Can you imagine Faramir speaking elvish - to Eowyn in the HoH...that would be so romantic :loveyou:

Lady Galadriel

And if I'm not mistaken, didn't the people of Gondor speak in both the common tongue and in some form of elvish? Can you imagine Faramir speaking elvish - to Eowyn in the HoH...that would be so romantic :loveyou:

I am not sure, but I think that only a few Gondorians knew elvish. Faramir did not know it. Remember when he met Frodo and Sam he was telling them that Gondorians were grown more like other men. Their knowledge had begun to wan and men of war replaced men of craft. Just like the city, education had begun to decay. Thank the Valar that King Elessar returned when he did. I see a Gondor of prosperity during his reign.

Lady Arwen
October 23rd,2004, 02:27 PM
and then i dont think Eowyn could speak Elvish as well...and btw i find that quite weird when in that scene of teh stable in TTT she says to Aragorn that she had heard of the magic of the elves but she wasnt lookin for it in a ranger from the north but till that moment he had only spoken Rohirric to Brego...he had just began to tell him Man le trasta, Man cenich but till that very moment he only spoke Rohirric/Old English....but anyway it stays one of my fav scenes and i am so mad at them for havin cut that out(along with the "stew" one...)...also cos i always thought that when he is rescued by Brego at the river that horse, i thought it was still Hasufel...anyways im ramblin too much!

Lady Gal, i think that King Elessar's reign was one of prosperity and culture as well...can you imagine...i mean the wisdom and level of culture he and Arwen had....when i read in your fanfic of the library...well thats exactly what i mean...

Lady Galadriel
October 23rd,2004, 06:18 PM

I love when Faramir tells Frodo & Sam about his people. I feel that he was truly conveying Tolkien's thoughts. The way it was written convinces me. I felt the author's convictions very strongly in that speech.
