Hey..
Is there anyone out there that is going to the LA area screening?

Wandlimb
November 8th,2002, 12:03 AM
Yes, I'm going to LA! I'm in Northern Utah right now, so I'm flying into LAX. I'll be on my own and would love to meet up with others. Any ideas on a meeting place? I don't know LA very well (I'm from SF).

La Screening Of Extended Version
Well, I am officially posting for the first time, to my favorite website and to let others know that officially again, I won a private screening from War of the Ring. I also found out that a new friend online just won too, so we have been busy making the plane and hotel reservations. We are leaving this weekend; I am leaving Sunday and staynig two nights; we are getting up like 6AM and will wait in line for 5 hours if we have to, just to make sure we get in...I live in Northern California and have a three hour trip to the SFO airport. Hop the plane to LAX and take a taxi to the hotel - luckily, I found the address, the map, the threatre information, everything = took a lot of research, but we are set as of tonight. We cannot thank War of the Ring and New Line Cinema for choosing us...we are still in the clouds about this and cannot believe it! My birthday just happens to be on Monday, the 11th, and this will be a trip to remember all my life now...meeting new friends, winning a contest, and being honored to see a private screening. If anyone needs any info, please let me know. My hotel is only 5-7 miles from the threatre called The Grove...sounds like from the comments a person left on the site, it is a beautiful threatre. White gloves, too!

Fatty, bless his soul, asked me to repost my original message from last night...I am NEW to this adding a Thread...so here I am. Elf Lady, Rune of Mirkwood, and 2 others will be in LA - I will be at LAX arriving around 3PM....I will meet others there if they want to, if they are coming in at the same time I am. Let me know??? This is way too exciting! Can't wait!

wow, congrats to u all that are going!
i live in cali and is about a hour away from The Grove, does anyone want to meet up cause Im going alone? It would be so great if we do! btw out of curiosity, what is the age group around here??

Rune of Mirkwood
November 8th,2002, 03:29 AM
Age isn't a factor here...it's the point I think that we all won, should meet, not be alone, and be with people who love the characters, the movie, and the journey to this special screening together! Hope they give us some breaks in between this 12-hour screening! Anyway, let's just say we are not in the old fougie range and not in the young, teenage range...is that okay?

Good point Rune!

We have members on this site anywhere from 14 to 62! And the thing that makes out community so kewl is that we all share a common love for The Professor's work!

As far as breaks, you can count on it! They will be providing food and refreshements as well. There will probably be meets and greets when you arrive, maybe some food available then, then it will be off to see the movie, and a break after the movie and before the special features DVD screening.

At least that's how it was done when I went! ;)

New Line really knows how to put on an event, so I'm sure you folks are gonna have a blast!

I'm driving in from the Pomona area. Anyone else coming from around here?

legolasgreenleaf
November 8th,2002, 04:43 AM
Haha, don't get me wrong, I'm not concerned with the age, just wondering how "expanded" it is. Sorry if any out there was offended by it.........pomona! I'm really close from there, I'll be driving in from Diamond Bar, anyone from there? So how are we all going to meet? I would sure like to meet all of you guys!

I hope I'm doing this right. I've only posted once at another site, and that was months ago. I'm happy to say that I'm attending the event on Monday, but I have a few questions:
1. Is the ticket transferable? I only ask because I entered my husband and myself separately, but we share the same email address. How do I know which name they have listed?
2. The email states that if we dress in LOTR costumes, we will be awarded coupons for a free copy of the SE edition. Is that for *everyone* who wears a costume?
3. Is this even the right place to ask for all this info? If not, I apologize wholeheartedly. I'm looking forward to meeting many new friends!

What a coincidence! I live in Diamond Bar - I always say Pomona area since many people don't have a clue where Diamond Bar is. What time are you heading over there? I guess they gave out more tickets than seats so you have to go early..

I live in Pomona, too! but I'm driving with my husband to LA, and he's going to drive me to the venue around 9-ish, so I'll probably be there, hopefully, between 9:30-10:00. It sure would be nice if there were other people there (but not too many :-) to keep me company. I met so many nice people at Brentanos last January, so I hope to have a similar, if not better, experience next week.
I don't want to take any chances on the time, and I can always grade papers while I wait. Is anyone else coming in costume?

Illuvatar
November 8th,2002, 05:07 AM
Okay #1 I can answer! :whoohoo:

It appears that the gathered all the email addresses off of the lists that we sent them, but it will be names that they go by when you arrive! So just print two of the release forms that came with the announcement, and you will be all set!

There were several instances of couples who each sent in an entry using the same address. Please rest assured that if one email address recieved an invitation that all who entered from that address are on the list.

And #2 as well!
Yes! Everyone that wears a costume will recieve a coupon for the DVD!

Lorien Elf Carina
November 8th,2002, 05:09 AM
I don't have anything to wear in the way of a costume. What kind of costumes is everyone else wearing? Anyone just throwing together something from around the house? I need ideas! It would be nice to be able to get the DVD free!

November 8th,2002, 05:13 AM
Illuvatar, you are awesome! Thanks for answering my questions. =)

Speaking of costumes, anyone know where I can get pointy ears and hobbit feet? Or how to make them (low tech style, unlike Weta).

Illuvatar
November 8th,2002, 05:20 AM
Well, me and a friend were talking about the feet today, and we came up with the idea that if you went to Tarfet or something and got a pair of those fuzzy gorilla slippers, that you could probably shave a bunch of the fur off of the sides and such and get real close to having cheap hobbit feet! lol

Dunno about the ears though........unless you knew a place to get Star Trek stuff, because Spock ears would work great!

anya
November 8th,2002, 05:43 AM
I was *so* thinking about gorilla slippers (to keep my feet warm 'cuz it could get chilly!) today.

Costume-wise, it's pretty much going to be thrown together. I've got some capris that I can tape up so they're shorter. I have a flowy-type shirt. A silver grey sweater to wear underneath, mithril shirt-style. My school principal -- also a LOTR geek who wishes she were going -- is lending me a black cloak and maybe a short curly wig. I've already got an elven brooch and the One Ring (my precious!)
I...cannot...wait! Monday can't come soon enough! Looking forward to meeting you all!

I am loving the response of this Forum! I love the fact that everyone is concerned about meeting new people, not being alone, and wanting to travel and be together! What commrodity! Those of us flying in the day before and don't live down in the LA area, of course, will arrive early at The Grove Theatre the next day - I know the 4 of us making plans to meet plan to get there WAY BEFORE 10:00 - By chance, I called The Grove threatre last night personally, since on the NY Thread Line, many were saying that perhaps this was "a hoax"...the polite and nice lady at The Grove stated that YES! There was a special showing of LOTR on Monday, is it is LIGIT! Anyway, another good point is: others entered to this contest on another site or such...may be more than the 75 that won here at War of the Ring - no matter...time will fly and we can stand and meet others while waiting in line! Those of you who get there before us...you'll already be interacting and mingling! YEAH!

A new thought about people arriving by plane, like me, on Sunday afternoon (around 2:30-3PM) - if you really are getting off the plane in LAX and want to meet others, why don't we create a card that just states, LOTR Fan or hold a picture of your favorite character? you know, like they do in the movies, for those waiting for their limos? Just a thought....

Hi, my Elf Lady Friend! ****waves back at you from CA ****
I know two of my friends are dressing up - you can get ideas and such, even elf ears to make, but there is little time, at a website called "alleyscratch.com" - they have extensive details to everything in the way of LOTR costumes..but, there is only 2 days left before arriving on Monday... just sharing here.

I've got my costume -- even hobbit "feet." No ears, alas, but I hope the end result is pleasing.

I CAN'T WAIT!!!!

Congratulations to those who are already there, like Wandlimb! Wow! Talk about Dedication! hey, save room for us in line, too, okay??? (ahahah...) We plan to get up really early on Monday morning, and head to The Grove...suppose to be a nice theatre with comfortable seats. Looking forward to everyone in costume! I'm coming just as my self, The Rune...I will enjoy seeing everyone there who decided to dress up!!!

Hey, Can anyone out there tell me how to get there from Diamond Bar? I tired to use the map on yahoo but when I type in the address they said there is no such address that exist.
Thanks!:(

Hi everybody!
New to this board. I'll be seeing a lot of you tomorrow at the screening. As for directions, I had the same thing happen with Yahoo. Try MapQuest, and you'll get a fair map and directions.

November 11th,2002, 01:56 AM
From Diamond Bar, take the 60-W for about 27 miles
merge onto 10-W and take the 10 for about 8 miles
exit La Brea -- keep right
turn right onto S La Brea Ave.
Turn Left onto W 3rd St.
Turn Right onto S Gardner St.
Turn Left onto Beverly Blvd.
Turn Right onto N. Stanley Ave.

I didn't have much luck with Yahoo either, but Moviefone had the theatre and a map. I would check with a Thomas Bros. map (or something similar) just in case.

See you there!

Please send in your reports of the day and photos. For those in costume we have a little competition for the best one. I emailed all the winners regarding it. Photos for the competition should be in a week today. :-)

So, what was this day all about? An EE screening? Who attended it?
