How should ROTK open?

We've been discussing how TTT should end so why not how the next one will open. I know its a loong way off mecry :p but that hasn't stopped me thinking about how it could begin.

I think it should fade into Gandalf riding across the plains with Pippin on his back :thumbs: What do you think?

..and ROTK opening with gandalf and pippin right towards minas tirith

I like the black screen and lyrical words they used for the opening of Fellowship, I hope Peter uses it in TTT and RotK!

Here's my vision of the RotK opening... it should start with a black screen, like Felloship, with Aragorn's verse said over it (you know "All that is gold does not glitter/Not all who wander are lost...") Then, since they changed around how Aragorn getting Anduril, I think it should open with him recieving the sword. It would be a fitting symbol of his kingship, given at the beginning of the movie where he reclaims it, and a logical transition from a poem that talks about the broken sword being reforged. That would just be the coolest opening ever, though something tells me PJ's going to do something completely different than the black screen for the next two movies...

Yeah that is a good opening except I think Aragorn is getting Anduril in TTT. I'm not too sure cause in the trailer you see Arwen taking the shards of narsil...

Thanks, blackdragon! I acutally read a long time ago that he'll get it in RotK, but that may have been changed. Who knows what the significance of the Shards of Narsil scene in the TTT trailers is? Or if that's even Arwen (probably is, but :huh: )

I think it might be easier to guess the opening of ROTK when we've seen the opening of TTT.

OK, I think Rotk will open with a big bang. PJ likes big openings to get people's attention(battle at the prologue in FoTR, Gandalf vs Balrog in TTT). So Rotk will probaly do the same. Now what is big enough to start of with. I was thinking about Shelob but that would need al little introduction so it might take to long. What else is possible. I havent seen TTT yet but I've seen many spoilers that I kinda know the story. Anybody has an idea?

I think rotk should start with a recollection of certain events that happened in the preceding film just like ttt did and like fotr did also. Then a wide or panoramic shot of gandalf riding to isengard and seeing tHe RETURN OF THE KING just like for ttt and FOTR. And we could here again what gandalf said in ttt : "One part of your journey is over, another one begins" The poem of aragorn could go well in trailers. Anyways my 2 cents!

yes i think he will go for the big impact opening and breaking Saruman's staff might well be it.

Barad-Dur. It will begin with a pan of a nazgul (the Witch King) riding to Minas Morgul and then a shot of Minas Morgul's gates opening as Sauron's final attack on Gondor begins....

PJ and his team shout be able to milk this for all it is worth.

As said before, PJ likes to start the movies with a bang. Both FotR and TTT started with moments of relative tranquillity though. I imagine the movie beginning with a pan into Minas Tirith, and to Denethor. Him standing over the Palantir in trance. Then the image of the forces of Mordor being unleashed, and Denethor recoiling back in horror. That way both Minas Tirith, Denethor and the imminent battle are established early on.

I think The Return of the King will open with the continuation of the flooding of Isengard. Then Gandalf et al will appear on the horizon and once Aragorn appears the ROTK logo will come on screen.

What will happen to Treebeard? Surely we will only see him in the first few minutes of the movie?

These last two replioes have good points. They both sound as a possibility to me. Altough I do think there not gonna dismiss Treebeard early on in the movie. But there will be a big opener, so this could be Denethor or Sarman.

Though most likely it will begin with Saruman/Isenguard stuff, I think it would be awsome to have it begin with a Denethor sequence of him seeing Mordor's splendor and then seeing Faramir let Frodo and Sam and have him say anything that is cool and dramatic.

PJ has said that he wants the films to play like one, as if you went for a year long popcorn break and came back to your seat in the theater.

I very much agree with this as the opening for RotK. This would make the most sense from the way that PJ is putting the films together. He started with attention grabbing scenes on both films which then leads to hobbit centric scenes. Both films also ended with a Frodo and Sam scene as well.
The Witch King retreating back to Minas Morgul with a report of the Ring being in Gondor will begin the massing of Sauron's armies towards Minas Tirith. All of this of course would depend upon added scenes and explainations of Minas Morgul in the extended version of TTT. :grin:

That would be a good opener, because we really haven't seen much of Sauron's armies, besides the Easterling's and Southron's.
