Man! was that awesome or what! i watched those like 3 times back to back! the flets rule! gimli is so cute heh. I think it portrayed Celeborn and Galadriel waaaay better than after it was edited for theatre. it showed galadriels kindness and celeborns authority more. very nice. but, i was dissappointed when sam didn't get his little box of earth and the mallorn seed. hmpf. but all the extra scenes, were great! and the commentary! lol. some of it is really funny, but i haven't watched/listened to it all yet. i finally have some free time tonight, i'm gonna check out everything. ooh, and when gandalf spoke the black speech, didn't that send chills up your spine! *melts*
i wish i could have afforded the big one with the bookends tho. verymad

I agree, the gifts were a great addition! They really should have been in the theatrical cut!
The black speech could have sent chills down my spine... IF THIS *$#& CAR ALARM DIDN'T GO OFF RIGHT OUTSIDE MY HOUSE THE INSTANT BOROMIR WENT FOR THE RING! verymad
But yeah, great stuff. I almost want to watch it again tonight, but nah... I put off too much homework *last* night to watch it!

I love Lothlorien! It was great before, but now it way cooler. I heard somewhere Lorien was supposed to be 'mysterious' in the theatrical version, but now it's....way better.
*laugh* I laughed when Gimli's insult. (well, for the humor of that part.) and not to mention all the Elvish!
This version tickled me to death. I was ready to pass out when the Lady mentioned Elendil and Aragorn mentioned Valinor! AND when Legolas called the balrog "of Morgoth"! GO HISTORY OF ARDA!! we people who've read The Sil know what those things are...but I wonder what you who have not read it think....there's those distant castles for you! YAY! It's not Tolkien without depth.

Yeah, I jumped for joy when I heard "Balrog of Morgoth" and and when Aragorn mentioned Valinor. Now the first part of a movie adaptation of my second favorite book of all time is making references to my favorite book of all time! lol

That was funny when he said,
"Have you run out of those nice shiny daggers" Good old Sam. Those Lothlorien scenes were the most exteneded i thought.

I enjoyed all of the additional scenes set in Lothlorien. They were each so wonderful. :elfqueen:

I cried and cried (the good kind of crying, lol) during the part of the gift-giving scene with Galadriel/Gimli, and then again when he was telling Legolas what Galadriel had given to him. I thought Gimli's love and adoration for Galadriel was portrayed beautifully!
That part of the story was always really touching to me (as well as the friendship between Legolas and Gimli).
And ohhhhh yes, Legolas saying "Balrog of Morgoth," (and his line in Elvish)........SO COOL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
And Galadriel calling Aragorn Elessar!!!!!!!!!!!
Loved it, loved it!!!!!
The new/extended Lothlórien scenes are my favorite additions on the extended DVD.

i know!!!! exactly what i was gonna say. seeing celeborn talk to aragorn, i think that was awesome. and when he gave him the dagger. just the fact that he has more than 1 line is cool. and i love it when lady galadriel laughs! it shows that she's not so creepy.:p and about sam- i was like "HE DIDN'T GET HIS ENCHANTED DIRT!!" i dont get it. it's soooo adorable when he's like "have you run out of those nice, shiny daggers?", i luv it. sam rules.

Question: Elessar meants "Elfstone." Unless they'll mention it later, or not at all, where's he gonna pick up his green elf-stone? Ideas? Get it at the end? Or not at all? Or simply, not have them mention what Elessar means?

Maybe Arwen will give it to him when she brings Narsil. pfbbt

I wouldn't be surprised if they leave the elf-stone out.
I was overjoyed to see the Lothlorien scenes. It was what I really wanted to see the most. I really wanted to see a bit more of the elves, and the gift giving and I thought Galadriel would improve for most people with more scenes. But Celeborn REALLY improved there too. I mean that one little bit of scene i.e.," you are being tracked!" I wished they had kept that in, adds to the character of the more dreamy Celeborn in the theatrical release. and it was only like 10sec long.

yeah......i think that too....it added a lot more to an 'emprt' character as he was in the theatrical version....

Hey has anyone mentioned that poor Boromir didn't get his gift :(
Poor Boromir. Its a bit like 'mate you're going to die in a couple of days so we're not going to waste giving you this nice buckle (was that it?) because its just going to end up at the bottom of the deep blue sea'. Hey PJ I know everyone should know by the time SEEDVD came out that he's going to die, but the poor guy deserves his gift :(

I thought maybe that necklace she gives him was meant to be instead of the elfstone.
Anyway-WOW!!!!! I loved the extra stuff all of it, but for me it was Lórien that was most improved. Celeborn was great. I feel like they put his worst lines in the theatrical cut. And i love that discussion between Aragorn and Galadriel. AND when she shows Frodo her ring!!! So good. YAY!!!!!!!!

By extendind the Lothlorien scenes, it really made it come to life more IMO. I loved all of it, Legolas speeking Elvish, more of them on the flets. All of it, exspecially the gift giving (well maybe not the Sam line). I loved the fact that they put back in some of Celeborns lines. It made him more of a character, instead of eye candy one the screen. He actually seems Important in this version. Where as in the Original, he seemed unimportant. I loved all of it......;)

This is the movie that they should have shown. Better tells the story to the unwashed. Not nearly as tiring as the cut version.
Celeborn and Haldir, more lines, yea!
Gifts, yea!
Extended Fight scenes, yea!
I think that Legolas's Orc shooting spree is extended also, gets that one trying to run away.
Galadriel now a cool character rather than some creepy Elf witch who goes nuclear and roots around in peoples heads scaring them.
Noldorian daggers, wonder if they should glow like Sting, also of Noldorian make.
Dissapointed they didn't make a bigger deal out of Galadriel giving Gimli the gift that she refused to give to FEANOR !!!Unless you've read the Silmarillion, you don't understand the magnitude of her gift. However, that was the only part that I left me the slightest dissapointed.
Just wish I could see ALL the footage for the movie, Maybe one day
I believe this version was PJ's way of trying to satisfy us, and I am quite happy and content
I have to say Thanks, PJ

Yes, she refused him....its in "The Simarilion." I must b the ONLY one who hated Peter's Lothlorien. I do agree that the extended scenes and the giftgiving made it palatable. In the books Lothlorien is green and golden...I found the movies Lothlorien dark and forbidding......its the one thing I screamed about all the way home.
Adunauriel
November 25th,2002, 11:16 PM
I think Lothlorien was dark in the Movie, because they were trying to make it seem sad... They were trying to show how the loss of Gandalf affected the Elves, as well as the Fellowship... I think that's why it was filmed with the blue cast, so you would feel the sadness.... And, really it wasn't like the Felloship would've there under the happiest of circumstances anyways.... For me it fit....;)

November 26th,2002, 12:34 AM
ok, I musta missed that in The Sil. I just got thru readin it last week. Which chapter is it in??
Oh, I LOVE Lorien. The reason it was dark was because it was at night when they went up the the big flet and then down by the fountain---in the movie at least. I plan to re-read it after the 1st.

i would have liked the grass to be greener. I didnt like the bit where they first entered the wood coz it wasnt how i imagined it. The night scenes were beautiful though and i thought the scenery for the gift giving bits was gorgeous.

The extended stuff definitely made Celeborn look more than a 2nd class elf.
@Iarfirithwen. I agree with you that Boromir deserved a gift. Just because he is going to die doesn't mean that it wouldn't hurt by the elves (or PJ) to dish out a little more time to show him getting something. I would be like a little kid on Christmas looking for a present and someone telling him that since I don't get a present I then he is probably going to die soon. :(
Wished PJ would have put his scene that he shot in the FOTR trailers of the elves wipping out the chasing morian orcs back in, but maybe later...

I loved the "Lembas" commercial, as Orlando Bloom calls it--Legolas: "Ah, lembas. One small bite will fill the stomache of a full grown man".
Merry/Pippin (forgive me for mixing them up!!!!): How many did you eat?"
"Four."
I think the scene at the grave in Riverdale is also an important addition--if someone isn't familiar with the story already, that is a huge revelation to have left out!

I, also, wondered why Boromir didn't get a gift. It would only have taken a 20 seconds to give him his belt. And why did the hobbits get daggers instead of belts? Especially since belts would have blended better with TTT, when the belt was found at the Orc pyre. Unless these daggers will be replacing the swords that they offer in service to Theoden and Denethor. Oh well, it's too late for me to get hired on as an editor.

Most likely it's in place of them finding the swords in the Barrow Downs, that will allow Merry to do you-know-what later on
