i know that for many people the Hildebrandts were thier first introduction to the world of ME.....so what do you think of them?
i have to come clean here and admit (please, dont kill me for this;) ) that i loathe the Hildebrandts.
while most of their draughtsmanship is OK, some of thier figure work is just clumsy, their colours are crude and garish and their interpretations of the characters are just plain weird....Aragorn looks like Inigo Montoya!!! not to mention the landscapes and settings being just plain peculiar(im thinking here of the painting they did of Caras Galadhon, with the mallorn that looks like a giant mushroom!!!)
they also have very little subtlety, either in colour effects, or figures and faces...
I will have to look for some pics i can put in here to illustrate what i mean;) since i dont have any Hilderbrandt work on my PC lol
so.......opinions?........and do remember these are just opinions....art is very much a subjective study, ok?

Yep, they were my favorite.
I kind of like Howe, but Alan Lee's stuff is too washed out for me.
I like vibrant color and all the sunlight and shadow, sort of like Maxfield Parrish.

Hlidebrandts characters seem cliche, I am not a fan of theirs. Really like Howe and Lee

I think perhaps that some of the pictures are slightly 'Disneyish'
